Re: Ad Suggestion (by me again) edit

Hi, I just had an idea. After I saw the ad for WikiProject Pennsylvania, I though that it would be good if there was an ad for The Strategy Games WikiProject. I also thought I could surprise my buddy AndonicO with it, since he made bothe the Portal and WikiProject. I'll post an image that you can use on the side, like the Penna flag you used for the Pennsylvania WikiProject. RyGuy 18:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

'kay, here's a good image to use, it's also used on the UBX.

Hello Ryan.

WikiProject Strategy games has finished it's first collaboration: Risk (game) ( ). We are now asking for nominations and input for a new one (not that you don't know). Please voice your ideas at the talk page.

Do you know why he/she left? · AO Talk 12:56, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, that is why I think someone else is using the account. RyGuy 13:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've sent an e-mail; maybe he'll respond, maybe not. · AO Talk 13:51, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I hope he does, and I hope that the person who left nasty messages wasn't really him. :-\ RyGuy 14:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Same here. Did you notice this revision though? · AO Talk 14:06, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that could be why too. RyGuy 14:24, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

He answered the e-mail. I won't add the e-mail here (since it's disrespectful to post private discussions without the other's consent), but more or less, I'll give you the two main ideas: 1. Forgot to remove e-mail address from preferences. 2. Stop bothering.

He also says he isn't sleep-deprived, since he slept for 18 hours after the insane editing period. Wierd schedule. :) · AO Talk 15:14, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

:-( I guess I'll have to face the truth (a truth I really don't like). RyGuy 16:27, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ryguy, is there a reason you do not have email enabled. I wanted to discuss some stuff but would rather do it via email or through some other medium. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:50, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
The reason I don't have my E-Mail enabled is because I don't have an account. I plan to get one sometime soon, though. Do you have any ideas on other methods? RyGuy 16:54, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not right now, its ok, it was not horribly important. I dont want to discuss any of it in public though. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 16:57, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I'll tell you when I get an e-mail account (probably around August when I plan to get a laptop with earned money). Probably not to discuss the exact thing you want to tell me now, but just to let you know. RyGuy 17:01, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
You do know there are many places you can get free online email accounts? -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 17:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hotmail has an option where you can get an account for free; you might want to try that (ask your mom or dad first though). · AO Talk 17:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'll figure that out soon, though I would prefer getting the laptop first, since I don't have any Microsoft outlook or anything. Anyway, I'll tell you when I've got that figured out. RyGuy 17:05, 26 March 2007 (UTC)PS - I know that HotMail is web-accessible, I'd just prefer another way, and I'll figure that out when I can. RyGuyReply
I've never used Outlook; hotmail doesn't work with it any more anyways, so no loss. I just type in "www.hotmail.com" on any computer, type in my password, and check my messages. Easy, and best of all, free. :) · AO Talk 17:08, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thats cool. I respect that. Just for the record though, i dont use outlook for almost any of my email. Most web sites such as yahoo, google and the such have free webmail (no need for outlook). I however respect your choice to wait and good luck! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 17:09, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

What's going on here? Qxz wrote something that is really usual for a Wikipedian on his Talk Page and his User page is a redirector. Is something wrong with him/her? By the way, AO left something on my user page "You are back?!" that I didn't understand. (Oh boy, this edit conflict thing is getting annoying, I tried saving this more than 5 times already. You can also try a Yahoo! account or maybe Gmail account. I have all three of them. Gmail is big, Yahoo1 is fun, Hotmail is "serious" You don't necessarily need Outlook for any of these.)--Freiddie 17:10, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, sorry about that. I confused you (Freiddy) with User:Fredil Yupigo, who I thought was just Fredil. Hope you'll understand. :) · AO Talk 17:12, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Alright Fei , I'll explain this one at a time:
  1. I don't really know why Qxz is acting all strange
  2. AndonicO thought you were a different user
  3. I really can't make the decision about E-Mail right now. Anyways, I need MY computer to get web access before I do and e-mail things. (I'm using my parents' computer)

Am I done now? :-) RyGuy 17:16, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK, that makes it clear. :-0 --Freiddie 17:57, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ryan, I saw your message you sent. My address is fei_yuanbw [at] hotmail [dot] com . Why is everyone writing cryptive addresses with [at] instead of @ or [dot] instead of .? Yes, it's because of spamming. I do know why Qxz quit, but I promised the person who told me that I wouldn't discuss it. Sorry :-(. RyGuy 14:04, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

RfA edit

Well, thank you RyGuy. I very much appreciate it. :-) However, Nishkid64 has already said he will nominate when he recovers from his heart surgury last Wednesday. You can co-nominate if you'd like though; I'd like that very much. If you want to do that, I'll tell you when the page is created. · AO Talk 17:53, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please respond on my talk page, since Chris Kreider has joined the discussion over there as well. Thanks! · AO Talk 17:58, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hey RyGuy I noticed you said you didn't know how to make an RfA page. Well, it's quite simple. Go to this page, and under the section "To nominate someone else:", fill in the box with the person's username, and on the page that comes up, replace USERNAME with the nominee's name, and write a nice description where it says to. Save the page, and then the nominee can fill out the questions. Remember to ask the user first though, as they might not feel they are ready, or might not want to be an admin. Cheers. Wikipedia:WikiProject Strategy games edit

Hello Ryan.

WikiProject Strategy games finished it's first collaboration on Risk (game). We have voted for possible candidates for the next collaboration, and three finalists have been selected:

  1. . Stronghold (2001 game)
  2. . Age of Empires
  3. . Age of Empires II

If possible, please vote here on which of these articles to collaborate on. Thank you.

WikiProject Strategy games

Yeah, if you like. Or, you could take a look at the articles and see which interests you (ie. which you'd most like to work on). · AO Talk 12:09, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, since I don't have them, (to be honest, I haven't even heard of them!) I don't know if I'll be able to make many contributions (except for things such as wikifying, templates, etc.). RyGuy 12:11, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's fine. Remember, you don't have to help with the collaboration, but we would appreciate it. :-) (by the way, I can't believe you've never heard of the Age of Empires series!) · AO Talk 12:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, here's a reason: It is rated T, and I only play E or E10 games (since I'm not yet a teenager). Anyway, even if I didn't obey the ratings, I couldn't get it anyway, since I've never seen it in a store. :-) RyGuy 12:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I've never played AoE I or II, but I have the third. I'm pretty sure the first two are T because of blood, but that can be turned off. AoE III is, however, a little more violent (not really, but I couldn't think of a better word), because they used a new physics engine. I recommend not playing #3 until you're about 12 or 13, but the first two are really old, so they shouldn't pose a problem for you (you said you're 11 right?). By the way, these are some of the most famous games there are, so they're sold just about everywhere (especially places like Amazon or e-bay, because, like I said, they're old). :-) · AO Talk 12:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Here's the official website (Microsoft), in case you want to take a look: http://www.microsoft.com/games/empires/ · AO Talk 12:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, my mom doesn't like me playing fighting games anyway (blood or no blood). RyGuy 12:52, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, alright then. I think Stronghold is also a wargame; are you allowed to edit their articles? · AO Talk 12:54, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I can edit them, I just can't play them. :-) RyGuy 12:55, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, fair enough. :-) · AO Talk 12:57, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Are you still here? edit

Hey Qxz, (or Gurch, whichever you prefer) are you still doing the ads or was that contribution you did this morning just something you were already going to do? RyGuy 13:37, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nobody else was going to do it, so I figured I might as well. Read the message I've put at the top of my talk page – I may make the odd contribution from time to time if I happen across something (while looking stuff up, say), but I don't wish to have any further involvement in admin/community stuff. I'm not going to make any more contributions with the Qxz account, so if you're going to refer to me, use my 'real' account name – Gurch 14:56, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

About NishKid edit

I'm so sorry to hear he had surgery. I really wish him the best and a fast recovery. I didn't know that, however, when you read my talkpage, the unblock was already granted, thank you. I'm gonna leave a message in her usertalk, but if you get the chance to see him, please tell him a Wikipedian wishes him the best. Thank you. About your editor review edit

I've noticed that you have an editor review. I wonder how you got to be in an editor review? Did someone invite you? I think it's very interesting. --Freiddie 20:43, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Another thing, I see you've had an editor conflict some time ago with a person claiming to be the school owner. I wonder if he is the one. Apart from that, do you think the "cleanup" tag is still necessary? I'm talking about PAVCS --Freiddie 21:09, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, to answer your first question, I started my editor review by myself. About the second one, I am not sure if the tag should be removed or not, but it would have been removed by now if it wasn't needed. RyGuy 11:41, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your VandalProof Application edit

Thank you for your interest in VandalProof, RyGuy. As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank again for your interest in VandalProof. Nothing Important Really edit

I just dropped by to find out what you are doing recently. Today I just saw the craziest vandalism on Pi. It's a good thing that I left it in my watchlist otherwise I would have missed it. Someone just added millions of decimal places (which I don't think are even correct). [1] --Freiddie 13:36, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just thought I'd add User:AndonicO/Random Data as an interesting link. :-) (BEWARE: the "pi to the 4 millionth digit" link might take a minute to load!) · AO Talk 12:33, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
It takes about 15 seconds to load on my computer (compared to about 5 for other pages), but I thought you might have a slower internet connection (which I assume would take quite a while to load that page). · AO Talk 13:22, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I have Fiber Optics (FiOs) internet service. Did you know that fiber optic wires can carry data at a near-infinite speed? RyGuy 13:26, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, but remember that near-infinite speed isn't realistic. You've probably read too many self-promotion pamphlets. :-) Remember, there's a theory that even light speed isn't the speed limit... · AO Talk 13:32, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... Now I can't find where I saw that. For some reason, I think I saw it here on Wikipedia, but it isn't here. RyGuy 13:35, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can't help you there; sorry. · AO Talk 14:17, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Aha! I remember now, I saw it in the Consumer Reports magazine. RyGuy 14:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's part of special relativity theory that prohibits anything from going beyond light speed. Fiber optic cables are fast - up to the speed of light. But that far removed from the true speed, it's the decoders and encoders at the ends of the cables, which convert digital data to light signals and vice versa, are the real slowdowns. Oh and one more thing, near-infinite is a just a figure of speech (employed by advertisers) - there is no such thing really. But my speed is definitely slooow! So one minute of waiting isn't surprising - I think it took more than that on my computer. It didn't really look like 4 million digits. Maybe it's the font size... --Freiddie 15:38, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
