File permission problem with File:ODESZA album Summers Gone.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:ODESZA album Summers Gone.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:40, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Odesza edit

I'm going to venture a guess and say you are close to the source? --Bathes (talk) 21:12, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Yes I am. I keep removing the part about ODESZA being named after a ship because it's untrue. Yes they said it in an interview but it isn't true. RuhiAndre (talk) 14:51, 24 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately that goes against Wikipedia's rules. People close to the subject are not supposed to edit their article. I'm all for correct information but unless they say it officially themselves then it has to stay, since otherwise I could just go around and claim information that is not citable using the excuse that "I'm close to the subject". I hope you understand. --Bathes (talk) 19:30, 24 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Let me provide a different take on that. RuhiAndre, it's fine for you to edit articles where you are close to the source so long as you are not doing so for the benefit or gain of the source (beyond the source having a better wikipedia article). The details are in WP:COI, but this sentence from the summary covers most of what you need to know: "COI editing involves contributing to Wikipedia to promote your own interests, including your business or financial interests, or those of your external relationships, such as with family, friends or employers. (Note: the word interest is used here to refer to benefit or gain, not to something you are merely interested in, such as a hobby or area of expertise.)" Editing the article in a way that would increase album sales (like linking to iTunes or Amazon) is a bad idea. Correcting an anecdote about how they got their name seems perfectly ok to me.
However, we aren't able to just take your word for the correction. If you can dig up an interview or press release where the band makes the correct, we can cite that and you're good to go. Lesser Cartographies (talk) 01:38, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

I hope this is enough for you. I understand you can't take my word for it so this is an interview with the guys on March 24, 2014. http://www.themusicninja.com/tmn-interview-odesza-the-boys-talk-about-their-pretty-music-and-why-it-sits-well-with-so-many/ RuhiAndre (talk) 23:34, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Will you please change the information about ODESZA being named after a ship? I love that ODESZA has a wiki page but I would like to help keep all the information on the page true so people who read it do not get the wrong information. Again, here is an interview to show the ship story isn't true: http://www.themusicninja.com/tmn-interview-odesza-the-boys-talk-about-their-pretty-music-and-why-it-sits-well-with-so-many/ RuhiAndre (talk) 11:27, 4 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your draft article, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/ODESZA edit

Hello RuhiAndre. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "ODESZA".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/ODESZA}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 00:00, 25 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
