Timbuktu 'legacy'-section edit
Hi, Ross. First of all, thanks for your edits on Timbuktu: I am not a fan of 'in popular culture'-sections, but had decided to leave it until I found a better way. Glad you did with your move to a legacy section. With the move, you took out part of the content as it was 'superficial'. I agree they do not provide solid, scientific information on the city: however, most people will read the article based on the city name's use 'in popular culture'. To me this would justify for the paragraph to illustrate the extend of its legacy in film, literature and theatre. E.g., the Donald Duck-series remark seems unimportant, but it would not be an exaggeration to say large part of the Dutch know the city only from this comic. Furthermore, the section presents the 'trivia' as much in context as possible (if you can help with that, then please) and in reasonable prose. Therefore, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on moving most of the information back in? You can reply on my talkpage or here, I have it watchlisted. - I'm okay with adding the section back in, just not the last line (Capitalizing commercially on both name and fame of the historic town, American alternative pop group "Timbuk3 as well as San Francisco based messenger bag manufacturer Timbuk2 derived their name via a wordplay on Timbuktu), which I still consider to be trivial. - Saw your edit, thanks. Took the passage from the articles about the brands - but in the end, good thing the commercial references have gone. Now we're only left with a sub-par modern Timbuktu section and lead..Pim Rijkee (talk) 10:59, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
