Hello, I'm PamD. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Alfred Wainwright (and others), because to me it seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thanks, Please do not add links to your personal website to Wikipedia articles - see WP:ELNO which includes, under sites not to be linked to, "Links to blogs, personal web pages and most fansites, except those written by a recognized authority. (This exception for blogs, etc., controlled by recognized authorities is meant to be very limited; as a minimum standard, recognized authorities always meet Wikipedia's notability criteria for people.)" Hi - the link to my web site (www.aloveofthelakes.co.uk) does contain lots of factual information about the fell regions and individual Wainwright fells. Yes, I'm sure it contains a lot of information, but then so do umpteen sites including various ones already linked which come from authoritative sources. Wikipedia is not a directory of websites, but the External Links section of an article can include a few links to sites which have something genuinely different to add to what's in the article and the rest of the encyclopedia.

Do you really believe that your site comes within the definition of "Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that is relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the subject and cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks), or other reasons."? (From WP:ELYES) Does it contain any reliably-sourced information which isn't already in the encyclopedia? (If so, please add that information to appropriate articles, providing your reliable source - not your own website - as a reference).

And I've already quoted to you from WP:ELNO, where links to personal websites are excluded, unless the person is an acknowledged authority on the topic. I'm sure there are plenty of websites which would be happy to include a link to your site, but it's just not appropriate in an encyclopedia. And arriving as a new editor and promptly adding your own website to four articles as your first four edits is not a good start.

But please, stay around and join in the project of building the encyclopedia: there's plenty more to be included in it, and articles which need improvement. I did a blitz on adding Wainwright's outlying fells a few weeks back after a brilliant walk on Black Combe, but some of those articles could certainly do with expansion.

Oh, and while I'm typing: please remember that when you add something to a talk page you should create a new subject heading (easiest way is to use the "Add" button at the top, and it offers a box to put it into), and you should sign all talk page comments using the "sign" button or ~~~~ which transforms itself into your username and time and date. PS: There's something not quite right about the formatting of http://www.aloveofthelakes.co.uk/aloveofthelakes-co-uk/walks/2012-journal/11-8-2012-coledale/11-8-2012-coledale.htm - long lines of text wrap to start at the far left margin, so on my standard screen setup (laptop set to less than full width) I see "Sail, Scar" right over at the left on a line after "Route details" and before the line starting "Crags, Outerside". Just seemed worth mentioning. I use Firefox, if that makes a difference. Not an isolated case, happens in http://www.aloveofthelakes.co.uk/aloveofthelakes-co-uk/walks/2012-journal/21-7-2012-crinkle-bowfell/21-7-12-crinkle-bowfell.htm too, where "Dungeon" floats off to the left!
