Caps in infoboxes - Reply

Hi there RIO (not to be confused with this one!),

I am not going to sugarcoat it, but i was aware of that guideline and i knew/know that SOCCERWAY "glued" regular season/playoff appearances for the given season. I sometimes still incur in that one myself, especially when a player only has an infobox and no additional statistic chart.

It's not a glaring error if one comes to think of it, one can say that playoff stuff is still league matches, albeit in a second stage. But i'll try to be more sympathetic in the future and insert only REGULAR SEASON numbers in the infobox.

Removing "Use British English"

Please do not remove {{Use British English}} as you did at Talk (Coldplay song) when you added {{EngvarB}}. The first lets editors know about the English variant in use. As it says at the EngvarB template: Please note that is now independent of any British English templating. Thanks, @StarryGrandma:, for alerting me to this differentiation, I wasn't aware of it. In fact, the unfortunate thing is that the script by @Ohconfucius:, which is recommended at {{EngvarB}}, automatically replaces {{Use British English}}. This led me to assume it is meant to. When I created the {{Use British English}} template, I never considered that I would be creating language bunkers where Brits would huddle down with their code variant and Australians would huddle down with theirs, so I set about changing it. However, different English language code templates soon started appearing like mushrooms. The script was actually designed as a code-neutral maintenance tool, so the EngvarB template does that job in a unifying way. It's actually unimportant which language code (out of British, Irish, Singaporean, South African, Hong Kong etc) any given article uses because the script would act in exactly the same way for British articles as it would for South African ones, and multiplication of the different code templates isn't helpful as it actually complicates the maintenance work due to the existence of multiple categories instead of just one. I was rather touched by this last situation (i) added to storyline, and proceeded to improve the piece, hopefully the readers will like it. Regarding the removal of the the quote regarding Hungarian national team, there is no ground to keep it there, as 1. monitoring Slovak football, I never came across any interest of Hungary, 2. Bénes never showed public interest or the initiative in representing Hungary, 3. at the time of his senior debut in the national team, he was active in Slovak U21, 4. during his tenure at U21, he was already doubted and praised as a future for the senior squad, 5. there is no evidence to suggest that he is in possession of Hungarian passport, 6. his ethnic background is discussed elsewhere on the page.

So albeit not incorrect, I removed it as it is 1. misleading, 2. repetitive.

Robby, Perhaps you should actually follow your own council before saying I have a changed a name incorrectly. I'm friends with quite a few of the Bundesliga commentators including Phil Bonney, Derek Rae, Chris Sharples, and Rob Turner. They all work with Thorsten Stückmann calling the World Feed for the Bundesliga and the DfB Pokal, where Thorsten is one of the analysts. They asked him the correct spelling of his last name because there are reports of Stuckmann and Stückmann. Thorsten said the correct spelling IS Stückmann. So I'm going off of the information from the individual directly as well as those who work with him. You haven't seen any sources BECAUSE in most cases they don't put the punctuation on uniforms. The actual pronunciation of his name is (Stew)ckmann not (Stuck)mann, which you can hear by watching one of the matches he calls. The ü is what causes the pronunciation to be done correctly. You claimed I hadn't done any research, and I recounted that by pointing out that I had 5 sources who said that was the correct spelling, including the player himself. If you want to leave it incorrect because you can't find an article with the correct spelling, that's fine. As for your counter that German jerseys do have the correct punctuation, the answer is not always. Go back and watch some Bundesliga highlights on YouTube from earlier seasons. The warnings you got in April and May included links to information on "inline citation" and "citing sources" so you were given the necessary information. The very first message on your Talk page includes a link to the "Teahouse", "a friendly space where new editors can ask questions about contributing to Wikipedia and get help from experienced editors" so there are places to ask for help. Hi, I’m enquiring whether I am correct or not because you helped me a lot in the past (this is not relevant to Tolgay Arslan) Basically, I sourced a player (Ekpe Udoh) as Nigerian because he has been selected for the Nigerian National team, however I have been threatened and also I have been reported over this edit, however my sources are more up to date than the people challenging me and on Wikipedia it says the national team is the nationality and flag they will have on their page. But they are reporting me because he was born in America - however he plays for Nigeria so I edited his nationality to Nigeria and sourced it - they are fighting me over it and using outdated sources. Am I correct in calling him Nigerian since he is a member of the Nigerian National team? Every player on Wikipedia has nationality to their national team. Thank you

I can't spot any insults directed at you. What do you mean? In all the time of your editing I haven't seen you source a lot. In the case of Ekpe Udoh, you added a link to the FIBA website but it's been challenged. Per WP:BRD you shouldn't start edit-warring but discuss your intended changes, for example on the article's Talk page. Again, I'm confident the discussion at AN/I can end without a topic ban but for that to happen, you need to show that you can collaborate with other editors without being unnecessarily argumentative. I have been discussing with them, and I also showed them the article, he suggested American-Nigerian and I agreed but instead it was just changed back to American. However when I try to discuss with them I get biased (my points being completely ignored) and insults such as the following: “Nationality is a legal status. It has nothing to do with who you play a sport for THIS IS A SIMPLE FACT. IT IS NOT OPEN TO DISPUTE. If you are incapable of understanding this, I suggest you spend more time improving your education, and less on making misleading edits to Wikipedia.”

Ok yes I agree I was wrong to do that, the reason some things came out like this were because I felt like I was being attacked from all areas by users which weren’t even involved but were siding against me and what I’ve been told to do throughout my history on this website. This isn’t an excuse but naturally I was angry at the fact all this is happening and people are attacking and insulting me and falsely accusing me of things like using more than one account and their insults not being taken up on I felt like I was targeted and there was hypocrisy. 2 - finally, found this after engaging in conversation with a fellow veteran user which is Spanish, for Vicente Guaita's Tercera División stats with Valencia CF Mestalla (see here, https://issuu.com/xaba74/docs/26_gu__a_marca_de_la_liga_2017-2018, you might have to scroll up to page 116 to find the squad of Getafe CF, where he played at the time; pretty reliable source, a Marca yearbook it seems).

According to one fellow user, his goal against Chelsea in the CL group phase marked Valencia's first-ever win over the opposition, and a source from Marca was inserted to accompany the text. I read, and read, and read that Spanish text, found ZERO mention of that; searched the web and found another ref, but one who seemed to state it was their first-ever win on that ground (#32, from La Razón, end of second paragraph reads "Barkley lanzó el balón al larguero y los valencianistas consiguieron el primer triunfo de su historia en Stamford Bridge.", meaning "Barkley's shot hit the bar and the Valencia men got the first win in their history at Stamford Bridge.").

Next thing i know, the user contradicts me. But they did not shed any additional light on the matter, they only said "No you are not right, I am" (so to speak). Inputs please (P.S. @Hassan Ashas: since you created this situation, please drop your opinion here too if you like, it would be appreciated)?

As an avid follower of La Liga, I had read different previews of the Chelsea vs Valencia UCL game and all of them had one common thing, i.e. Chelsea have never lost to Valencia. It was my mistake that I added the source of Marca without reading it thoroughly and I accept it and say sorry for that. It was so heavily mentioned everywhere on twitter and other such platforms that I thought the Marca article would also have mentioned it (I was actually trying to find an article giving spotlight to Rodrigo and wasn't trying to validate the fact that this was their first win ever against Chelsea)

And why did I not add any of the above sources I mentioned into the article the second time? Because from what I have been told (on my older Wikipedia edits) that any of these sites aren't trustworthy enough to be added on Wikipedia. I have added several such sources (such as transfermarkt and etc), only to see them removed later by other senior users. Therefore, since then I try my best to add sources from newspapers like BBC, Marca and such.

As far as the English is concerned, it is not my first language and my English language skills aren't that great either. However, I have been reading lots of different articles on Wikipedia and I have been trying to type things in a way they are written on those other articles whenever I make edit now. I am still quite new to Wikipedia (compared to others here). I realize there are many shortcomings in my edits and I really appreciate you or anyone else who improves them whenever they can and I can also ensure that I do try to improve them every day.

Also, yes, I do use Google Translation to translate Spanish sources into English when adding a source since I do not have any knowledge of Spanish language. If you do know a better translator then please do suggest. It's just this that I think there is so little content in all the articles related to Spanish Football here on Wikipedia (like, you can see the article of [Parejo], who's actually one of the best footballers currently in the top tier) and I just try to add things in them whenever I possibly can...

We're always learning, right? :-) The reason I only commented on edit summaries and not on the content dispute itself is that I felt that this was something the two of you could easily sort out without my help. If there are disagreements over content on an article, the first thing to try is a civil discussion on the Talk page of the article in question. That way, others who have the page on their watchlist can join the discussion if necessary. WP:DR is worth a read, its summary states: "Resolve disputes calmly, through civil discussion and consensus-building on relevant discussion pages. There are several available options to request opinions from editors outside the dispute: other dispute resolution mechanisms include requests for comments, the dispute resolution noticeboard or, after all other methods have been tried, arbitration.".
