Revert

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. MSGJ (talk) 11:01, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Furthermore, if you tend to lots of reverts, you might find it helpful to request the rollback tool. See RFR for more details. Regards, MSGJ (talk) 11:06, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Christie Brinkley

You're welcome for the help with the article! Yeah, I did get that Efsawyer is actually Errol Sawyer, but the question is how legit is what he says? I read a few of the bios provided as references and none mentioned the photographer who discovered Brinkley by name, and it doesn't seem like anyone has read the book he's supposedly mentioned in. Adding to that his apparent need to be recognized, and I'm a little suspicious (and you were right to put up the COI tag). But even if his claims are true (which is certainly plausible), the fact that he's not mentioned by name in the refs the article has would demonstrate who he is - and what race he is - isn't notable enough for inclusion in the article, which he might not be so happy to hear judging from his comments on the talk page.  Mbinebri  talk ← 16:11, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Sandi Thom

Thankyou for keeping this page correct. A new editor who has alrady stated on the discussion page that "only they know the truth about sandi thom" and is determined to remove any thing they see as detrimental about the subject is removing whole paragrpahs at a time. Thanks for restoring article. Skinnylizzy (talk) 13:33, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey Skinnylizzy,
you're welcome, I think this is in fact a case of COI.
The article has become quite a mess but to be honest I'm not interested in Sandi Thom enough and have too little knowledge to really do something about it. -Robby.is.on (talk) 14:19, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Hurricane Festival

Where did any of the officials (Marc etc.) confirm that timetable? -Robby.is.on (talk) 03:27, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

The same timetable format was in place last year, and was exactly correct. Only a few bands have been confirmed where they are playing in this timetable - mostly the headliners of the maion stages. It gives people a chance to see what days the bands they want to see are playing, giving them an oppertunity to plan their weekend around this. It is DEFINATELY much more helpful having this timetable, rather than deleting the whole thing, implying that either nothing has been announced for this years festival or that it isn't even happening! The timetable should remain up so that people can see who is playing and when, it can easily be changed if there are any slight mistakes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.13.22.95 (talk) 12:13, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an information page for festival-goers. I think this timetable is inappropriate. You could just list the bands like in the German article. I'm a bit disappointed you just added this back in without us having finished the discussion. -Robby.is.on (talk) 12:24, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
hi guys - i deleted the first timetable of the IP, cause it was easy to see, that it was false. Nine Inch Nails would never play again the co-slot for Die Ärzte because this constellation was on a festival a few years ago and Trent R. of NIN was very pissed because the ärzte fans did not actually listened to his music. So I knew, that the timetable cant be true and deleted it. The timetable in its current form is in any case better, because its based on the information that are sure. if something like this belongs to an encyclopedia is another question. IMO it does not hurt anyone when we include it. But if we include it, then only if its based on reliable sources and not like in the first version. Can you back that up? Template:Infobox_software#Parameters → operating system does not explicitly state but I would assume that only operating systems currently supported are meant be listed. For example, versions of OS X older than 10.8 ("Mountain Lion") aren’t supported either anymore. Robby.is.on (talk) 14:15, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Stats tables

Hello. As to layout, it might be worth following the example at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Players instead. There are FAQs here. Not sure there's agreement on everything, as the talk page shows, but e.g. row-by-row referencing is becoming increasingly common in preference to a link or row of links above the table that may but often don't cover everything therein. Apart from removal of assists, the table at Thierry Henry has been set in stone since it went through FAC in 2007, before such tables were widespread, and there's no way of telling which figures came from where, apart from presumably the Barcelona source covered his Barcelona stats.

As to what to include: any first-team competitive match, in general. An example is Chris Burke, a player who also played qualifying rounds of European competitions for both Rangers and Birmingham. A different example is Matt Green, who has played at a rather lower level of football, so there's no need for a continental column but there are lots of notes about what the "other" competitions are. Thanks for asking. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:06, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Aritz Aduriz

Hi there ROBBY, from Portugal,

I think there is really not a big difference, and I also think with "publisher" the field is better displayed. But no worries, I have already reverted myself and more in Mr. Aduriz's article.

You're not bothering me with these messages. Communication is welcome. :-)
Regarding "work vs publisher", it's not something I feel strongly about, just something I picked up while editing.
Regarding Williams, yes, I agree, generally speaking not every single goal is noteworthy. However, for a player at the very beginning of his professional career scoring in three successive matches seems quite remarkable. I think we're okay for now. Robby.is.on (talk) 14:53, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! And yes, I see your point, three goals in a row (FOUR in three games, that is) for such a young player is of note indeed. But not more, even if he was to score 20 :) --84.90.219.128 (talk) 16:27, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Goikoetxea - Reply

Hello there,

I did not feel a STYLE OF PLAY section was warranted in this person's case, because all it refers to is his aggressiveness, I don't see how is that referring to his playing characteristics (heading ability, skills, etc). But OK, it stays your way.

Regards back, happy week --84.90.219.128 (talk) 15:02, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

  • Sorry, missed that bit on the original message. I now will proceed to make minor adjustments to your additions (for example coherence in publishers of refs), no contents will be hurt this time. Thank you for your great efforts, much appreciated as always. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 16:10, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Reinstate it, if you must. --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:07, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Likewise, I will be all ears should the occasion arise :) --84.90.219.128 (talk) 19:38, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

  • My reasoning was the following: since the "butcher" part already appears in a section of its own, and it's in no way all this historical player did in his career (even though he was a bit of a thug, yes sir, and I'm all for Athletic Bilbao, only team I could ever support in this age of Arsenals, Cities, Portos, Inters, Real Madrids and whatnots!) it striked me as strange it should appear in intro. However, since your opinion is as valid as my own and you presented valid arguments, I reinstated the bit without hesitation.

All's well that ends well, take care --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:02, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

  • My kind fellow user, I had to reinstate the former version, and now i'll explain why, step by step: 1 - no need for just one line to say "Born in Alonsotegi, Biscay, Goikoetxea began his playing career as a youth with Arbuyo", it can perfectly go alongside his Bilbao spell; 2 - storyline sections should be divided into CLUB CAREER and INTERNATIONAL CAREER, or PLAYING CAREER and MANAGERIAL CAREER, not CLUB, INTERNATIONAL and MANAGER; 3 - again, I don't see the error in a run-on sentence when it's so small. Why can't we say "In his debut season in La Liga he scored four goals ("four", not "4", we only starting writing in numerals after "10") in 27 games, being somewhat absent in the following years with only 26 appearances combined from 1976 to 1979.", having to resort to full stop after full stop ("In his debut season in La Liga he scored four goals in 27 games. He played a lesser role in the following three years with only 26 appearances combined from 1976 to 1979", and by the way, I think "three" followed by "1976 to 1979" is redundancy, I tried to reach a compromise with my new version of the sentence); 4 - the reference you added for his 27 appearances in those three seasons is only a link and not a ref, but I guess it will have to make do. I will browse the web for more possibilities, also trying to get more for his playing ability.

Regards, sorry for any inconvenience --84.90.219.128 (talk) 13:16, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

(Replying here so it is easier to follow the discussion.)
Thanks. My thoughts:
  1. I am fine with changing back the headings. You're right that when there's a "Managerial career" heading, there needs to be a "Playing career" heading for differentiation. The reason I wanted to add an "Athletic Bilbao" heading was that I thought be good to make it clear he mostly played there.
  2. Connecting Arbuyo spell to time at Bilbao: Okay!
  3. I'm sure we can agree that using "before" twice in one sentence isn't very elegant.
  4. "four goals in 27 games": For a defender goals aren't of a major importance, so I think we should mention the number of appearances first.
  5. "established himself in the senior team squad" versus just "senior team": seems more accurate with "squad" seen has he didn't play that much in the three seasons after his debut season. The following paragraph ("During the 1980s"…) makes it clear he was a regular starter from then on.
  6. "played a lesser role" versus "was somewhat absent": I feel "absent" suggests he was away whereas in reality he just didn't play that much (or was he in fact injured?).
  7. "four goals" vs "4 goals": MOS:NUMERAL does state "Integers from zero to nine are spelled out in words". However, it also mentions "Comparable quantities should be all spelled out or all in figures" (example: "five cats and thirty-two dogs, not five cats and 32 dogs"). Isn't a comparison between the amount of goals and the number of appearances implied here? Goals/matches ratios are frequently discussed in the media, although admittedly that is more the case for forwards than for defenders.
  8. Agreed, both "three" and "1976 to 1979" is redundant.
  9. More on his style of play would be great. :-)
  10. I agree that text references are preferable to tables (that's how I look at them) but is there some Wiki policy that differentiates between "only link" and "ref" like you do?
My latest edit is another attempt at a good compromise. Regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:16, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

FINALLY! After four hours browsing the web I have improved the article dramatically, and now I can reply to you... Let's go bit by bit then:

1 - check; 2 - check; 3 - my bad, never noticed in all these years I had written "before" twice, nice catch; 4 - can not say that I agree, goals, especially in a "good supply" (four is "good" for a DF) are definitely worth mentioning, but either order is fine; 5 - check; 6 - check; 7 - please see my thoughts on 4, anyway is fine, I just happen to like writing words more than numbers, that is all; 8 - check; 9 - I browsed the web like crazy, found nothing. I know he had a very powerful shot and was a no-nonsense defender, one of the best of his age (when he did not resort to violence that is!), but of course I am not a source for any encyclopedia :); 10 - found a ref that states that he was a starter by then (1976/79, see right column of text found in reference #2, there it is clearly stated that Javier Escalza and Agustín Guisasola were the starting stoppers). Nope, not a guideline saying that tables should not be used to reference bits of text, just a personal preference mate.

Unrelated (or maybe not) to the topics we discussed, I also added tons of refs for his coaching career, WP wins of course, that's the most important. I will try HARDER for refs for his playing style. Regards back, take it easy and sorry for any inconvenience --84.90.219.128 (talk) 18:42, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Okay, I'm fine with how it is now. :-) About 3.: I wasn't aware that you had previously written those bits. Actually, I'm not sure I'd remember things I'd edited so long ago, heh. Great job on digging up all those references and correcting the details (years, stats, etc.). The article is shaping up nicely. Cheers, Robby.is.on (talk) 22:13, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Bits and pieces

Finally, finished composing Mr. Goikoetxea's article, only thing now missing is more to the STYLE OF PLAY section. On an unrelated note (an article where I also worked extensively, now added +2 refs, one is more interesting than it seems, how can a poor club like Rayo reject such an offer from Borussia then let the player leave for FREE? I think it should stay), two favours and a tip in Álex Gálvez if you please:

1 - seeing that you speak German much better than me of course, do you think you can find a proper ref to say he was a starter for Werder in his first year instead of just a link with stats (which by the way does not prove much, for example a player could miss five or six games and it's not because of injury ("fit"), but because manager does not find him to be good enough at the time or the player has been punished for something)? I'm sure you can; 2 - let's go 50%-50% on this one: in the chart of statistics below, we write the club's season (in this case "2015-16 W.BREMEN SEASON"), but in storyline please allow for the general season ("2015-16 BUNDESLIGA SEASON"); 3 - last but not least, in storyline, when you start a paragraph you mention the subject's name ("Galvez" in this case), subsequently "he" suffices very well, no need for name again until the start of the following paragraph. Just my two cents.

Always a pleasure, I sign off now --84.90.219.128 (talk) 20:51, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

  • I "defended" myself above man, like I said, I think we can have the CLUB's seasons in the chart, and the OVERALL seasons in the storyline, I feel everybody should be wiki-happy that way :) --84.90.219.128 (talk) 23:16, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
I reckon they considered being able to play Gálvez the following season to be worth more than the €2 million offered. Can't blame them: I followed Rayo that season, their results went down the drain whenever Gálvez was unable to play.
I've found a decent reference allowing me to more precise about his first season at Werder. Thanks for giving me a nudge there, I was lazy with my initial edit.
Regarding "2014–15 Bundesliga" versus "2015–16 SV Werder Bremen season": I'm not too invested in what we put there. I'd just like to establish a good policy to go by for future edits I make. I mentioned an argument in favour of the club season page and I haven't been able to come up with one in favour of the league season page. That's why I would lean towards the former. That is all…
By the way, I came across this edit summary of yours: "Composed the habitual appalling rubbish by "user" ALGRIM". What happened to civility and assuming good faith? :-P
Robby.is.on (talk) 00:26, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

HORRIBLE summary I know, I apologize to you and the community in general :( This person has been here for give or take the same time as me (so, eight or nine YEARS!), writes no summaries, talks to no one, and ALL his creations are like this: player plays ONE MINUTE in a competition that passes WP:NOTABILITY (for example, Fábio Sturgeon stood like that for one or two years), he gets article with the same storyline (example being the "storyline" you found in Alexandre Nascimento Costa Silva before I stepped in), and it never gets updated again, NEVER, unless someone else works on it.

Very frustrating indeed (ah, and not only that, he created/creates tons of articles that never passed WP:NOTABILITY, quantity over quality for this chap any day of the week, it seems), but am not excusing myself here my kind fellow user, merely stating the facts so that you are able to think for yourself, I know that summary was very uncivil.

Thank you for your kindness and patience, keep it up --84.90.219.128 (talk) 00:35, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Ah. Yes, frustrations sometimes gets the better of me too. Robby.is.on (talk) 14:52, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
  • Done with Gálvez, I have now matched the display of all the references so that it looks more tidy, thanks for your efforts! I am now going to work in the "article" of Sofyane Cherfa (have a look to see what battle is ahead of me, but please don't edit there for the next hour, as to avoid edit conflicts), wish me good luck... --84.90.219.128 (talk) 01:06, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Career stats appearance

They actually weren't zeros. They were actually dashes. Dashes actually look better. Kingjeff (talk) 22:53, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

It does relate to you because you put zeros where dashes should be. Kingjeff (talk) 04:07, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Also, you don't need a total row when a player has been at a club for one season. Kingjeff (talk) 04:19, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

I see you're clearly not understanding the problem. The dashes in the totals prior to my recent edit is better than your zeros in the totals. The dashes from the table I put in from my recent edit is better than your zeros in the table. A third option is to put a dash over two column in those same columns. I'm simply telling you that dashes, regardless of how you include them, is better than putting zeros in those columns. Another flaw with your tables is that you don't need to put in a totals row like you did here Kingjeff (talk) 05:23, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

You will never come to a consensus when you're not respecting other users opinions and showing youtube videos stating that it's "only your opinion" to other editors and calling other editors edits an "abomination." Kingjeff (talk) 06:50, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

Reverted edit on Felipe Pardo

Hello,

The edit by CarryOn95 (talk · contribs) was reverted as that account was a sock-puppet of a banned user. The edits of this banned user are routinely reverted per WP:BANREVERT, even if they appear to be constructive, in order to deter further ban evasion. Ager Aketxe - Reply

Hi there ROBBY, all well?

Situation is as follows: I heard of the news today, and thought it would relevant for Aketxe's piece. So, I contacted User:The Almightey Drill because 1 - his Spanish is quite good; 2 - mine is too, but I don't feel very comfortable translating the legal bits (what the player is being charged with, for example), so I asked him to help out.

Received no reply at all, if your Spanish is at our level you can "replace" TAD if you want. Regards --Be Quiet AL (talk) 13:11, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

Give me a couple of hours, then revisit the piece to tell me what you think. --Be Quiet AL (talk) 14:51, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

  • Done, here are some "pointers" and akin: 1 - no need for Barakaldo sub-sections because they consisted of only one line without refs, this way I feel it "gells" better; 2 - I only use links (BDFUTBOL.com, official club profiles, etc) as refs as a last resort, as you can see I added many refs more, including one that replaced that you added for his Pichichi victory; 3 - incredibly, found no news on his death, and both Mundo Deportivo (newspaper) and ABC (newspaper) have a search engine that allows you to browse through their historical archives, came out empty :(

Well, nice teamwork I'd say, now I'm off to dinner. Speaking of Bilbao players, great Aduriz, oldtimer is not dead (football-wise) not by a mile! Cheers --Be Quiet AL (talk) 19:03, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm sorry you take offence at the term "talk page stalker". I don't mean it in a negative sense. It's anyone who watches someone else's talk page and adds input to threads in which the stalker is not directly involved. Wikipedia:Talk page stalker. I fully understand you put my talk page on your watch list, again ignoring the edit notice where I stated that I would respond with a {{talkback}} template if I responded. The revert made it clear I wasn't responding to your original comment and I have responded on the talk page of the article in question. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:55, 25 June 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing Oliver torres's page. It was giving me error and i was confused on what i had done wrong. On the issue of vandalism, the correction made in People Party had nothing to do with vandalism. I was simply correcting information that was outdated (2004). If you notice i put a link to more accurate information from the year 2014. [1]

Aduriz (others) - Reply

Really too much that summary, and for that i apologize to the WP community and the user in particular. However; 1 - a quick (and erroneous!) glance on my part to the aforementioned edit made me perceive it as vandalism; 2 - previous display was fine as it was, no need for changes (imagine if Aduriz or any other player had TEN Europa League-related accolades, would we list "UEFA Europa League" ten times in the honours? Certainly not, i believe.

1 - quite right, could not agree more; 2 - i am not "all that jazz" on a personal level right now (not WP's fault of course), and if you couple that with the fact i have ZERO tolerance for vandalism, you get these idiocies from my part. Reserve stats

Hi, you removed the reserve stats from the Ricardo Kishna article. Just to be clear, those are for the professional 1st division in the Netherlands, the Eerste Divisie, where Jong Ajax is playing against professional teams. Seems like it's relevant. Gman83 (talk) 20:19, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

I hope you realize...

...that whether the code says ==Subject header== or == Subject header == makes absolutely no difference in the way the page is rendered. Both versions look precisely the same on the rendered page, so your making edits such as this one is a total waste of time. My suggestion would be that you spend your Wikitime making changes which are substantive, and not completely unnecessary. Beyond My Ken (talk) 13:46, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Kasper Dolberg

Imagine a player who spends 2010–2013 with the youth team. From 2013–2015 he is a first team player. But in 2015 he goes back to the youth team, until he gets another chance in 2017. Are you really going to have multiple different entries for this? What about if it's different teams? Same thing. Well no, you're not; partly because of WP:COMMONSENSE and partly because there is long-standing WT:FOOTY consensus that once a senior career has started, the youth career in the infobox has ended. Unfortunately, for some reason, the script does not factor in the dashes in titles - may be worth raising with the script's creator. However, with so many incorrect dashes within the article texts, I simply do the page as a whole with the script, factoring in the titles on cites. I think it adds only a few bytes for each instance, but I have no qualms in reversions for the cite titles... Craig(talk) 22:08, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Thank you for correcting my error regarding the length of contract. It's definitely three years.
  • Apologies if you felt I implied that it was you that entered the shirt number, I attempted to make them different clauses in my brief note summarising my edits.
  • I do defend my language of "announced that they had signed" as the most accurate and encyclopaedic wording, given the club did indeed announce the signing; we have no idea when it took place behind the scenes. Rollback granted

Hi Robby.is.on. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Daily Mail

You reverted the addition of a reference, claiming "Daily Mail is not a reliable source". Whatever the decision of a group of Wikipedia editors may be, apparently motivated simply by left-wing dislike of a conservative newspaper, the Daily Mail is an award-winning newspaper and just as reliable as any other British tabloid. It is still relied on with good enough reason in tens of thousands of Wikipedia articles. Most of its writers have been published in other media and no doubt are looked on as reliable sources there. A reference from an article in the Daily Mail is better than no reference. The Mail's reply here is a little overstated but makes some telling points. If you are going to join in efforts to remove all citations from the Daily Mail, but not (say) from various propaganda organs of totalitarian states where there is no reliability in the media at all, then at least be aware that you're joining in a politically-motivated leftist movement and not a properly encyclopaedic one! Moonraker (talk) 08:16, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Daily Mail has been deemed unreliable for a while and we shouldn't be using them for sourcing if others are available. Govvy (talk) 11:20, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
@Moonraker: What Goovy wrote is accurate. In the discussion about prohibition of the Daily Mail many salient arguments were made which put your assumptions of bad faith ("motivated simply by left-wing dislike of a conservative newspaper", "politically-motivated leftist movement") to shame. See also the "News media" section at "Potentially unreliable sources". Robby.is.on (talk) 11:56, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Robby.is.on I don't agree with that, and neither does the Daily Mail itself, if you take the trouble to read the article I linked. With all its good and bad points, Wikipedia is far too much under the control of social justice warriors who talk the way you talk. Whether you are one of them I do not know, but talk of putting people's opinions to "shame" may be a clue. Moonraker (talk) 11:34, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
Well, it would be quite a surprise if the Daily Mail admitted to being an unreliable news source, would it not? :-) Robby.is.on (talk) 14:20, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Re:Transfermarkt.de

OK, I'll pay more attention in the future. Could you please link me a page in which this community decided to consider Transfermarkt as an unreliable source? Maybe it's a restrictive rule only for the English Wikipedia, but for sure it isn't so in the German Wikipedia (where I found that reference) or in the Italian one (where that source is massively used as external link). Best regards. --Mess (talk) 14:20, 20 November 2017 (UTC)
