Baltimore edit. edit

HI, RickinBaltomore, thanks for commenting on my edit, Id like to point out that I put the biggest independent city. I didn't mean any harm to the other person who wrote independent city, so I did not delete it. Also, I'd like to point out that the Independent City part did not show on Google Home, which is why I added it. Ricardo (talk) 17:56, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

DebateIsland edit edit

Hi there, I noticed you removed a page named DebateIsland.com for self-promotion. I just wanted to ask why you did that. I think the website is notable, and therefore it does not count as self-promotion. Would you be able to explain this? Note that I am quite new to Wikipedia, so if I have missed something, do let me know. Bruce Lamete (talk) 11:49, 8 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The article, as written 4 years ago, was a promotional piece for the site. It did not have any sources and read as an advertisement. I see there is a draft currently being worked on, and I believe that would be the best way to ensure the article could be published, as it can be reviewed and made sure that the article is written from a neutral viewpoint. RickinBaltimore (talk) 12:44, 8 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Alright, thank you for the information. Is there any way I can see the rejected draft? Bruce Lamete (talk) 09:34, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

It wasn't a rejected draft, as it was published in the main space and deleted as promotional. There's honestly nothing to take from the deleted article, it was a PR piece on the site, with no sourcing at all. RickinBaltimore (talk) 13:03, 9 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • When protecting a page with Twinkle, you can now add a note if doing so was in response to a request at WP:RfPP, and even link to the specific revision.

Hello edit

Hello! The indefinitely blocked user KIENGIR is back. Norden1990 is reverting the articles contaminated by KIENGIR. On Romanian pages they keep adding the origin, lying the people are of Hungarian ethniciy but for this there is absolutely no proof both parents were Hungarians. I moved this material to their Personal Lives. Norden1990 was part of the Hungarian group together with KIENGIR, editing history with the false lies against the Treaty of Trianon (unrecognised by the Hungarian extremists). Moreover on Romanian articles if there is a Romanian of even a Hungarian parent as descendancy, they (or KIENGIR) contaminted them with articles in Hungarian. We have even the authors written (plus the language), because they want to show he is no Romanian. Basically this type of irrendentism makes the Romanians hate the Hungarians. Sometimes for a Romanian, just because it is also of some Hungarian descendancy, there are 6 Hungarian articles and 1 Romanian. This is how they fight Romania.

On this page, there are many sock puppet accounts of KIENGIR. After I removed the irredentist material, KIENGIR being blocked for that, he comes with Clownbrexworld and reverts. An account from 2020, reactivated. Then Norden1990 coming, because this person KIENGIR forgot something. He has so many users that even forgets their number.

Norden1990 could be also a friend, but Clownbrexworld is 100% his sock puppet. Thehoboclown had also mocked Romania for years, and when somebody opened investigation for him abandoned that user. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2F09:3206:3200:F5DB:D573:CED7:6EC9 (talk) 22:51, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion Wikipedia will never get rid of KIENGIR without the help of the admins. He/they have thousands of articles on Wikipedia but written in the Hungarian IRREDENTIST way. They had edited falsely the history supporting the Treaty of Trianon. Maybe they are hired by the Hungarian Government which supports the re-creation of the empire. A kind of Russian trolls, but Hungarian. 15 years many admins were not as smart as you were. Only now you are beginning to wake up. They contaminated Wikipedia with lies and irredentism. KIENGIR is one of them, but he may be alone. Nobody knows.

I do not see anything in this user's recent contributions that suggests an indefinite block, much less a removal of talk page access. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 10:03, 22 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

The continued push to right great wrongs, combative attitude, edit warring and personal attacks immediately after the unblock was grounds for me. KIENGIR edit

Do you know approximately how long a non-emergency global lock request such as this typically takes to be acted on? I assume that this is a low-to-moderate priority because they aren't vandalizing or threatening or any of the other more serious forms of misconduct. Do you think that we will know in a few days, a week, a month? Robert McClenon (talk) 15:36, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

  Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
