Image:Rc-redtux-small.jpg listed for deletion edit

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Rc-redtux-small.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy (ptt) 23:05, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Writing about yourself edit

Hi Richard,

I see that you've been trying to update the Wikipedia article about yourself. This is a very difficult path to follow safely, and it's generally strongly recommended not to do that. See Wikipedia:Autobiography for more information on this matter.

I've redirected the article back to Richard Cheese, because it seems to me that you are most well-known under that pseudonym. As a new user who is trying to make sense of how to interact with Wikipedia, you might find the Teahouse a good place to find information, so I'll send you an invitation. --Slashme (talk) 10:00, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am signing off for a few days, please don't make too many drastic changes, I'll be back online this weekend.! :) Richardcheese2 (talk) 12:48, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Johnny Aloha edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Johnny Aloha, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Updated the Johnny Aloha page. Richardcheese2 (talk) 12:45, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello - Not sure why you had the Johnny Aloha page deleted. Can you please send me the deleted code from the page? The Johnny Aloha CD was released in 2010, it is distributed by an established record label, it is available on iTunes and other online music stores, and includes a duet with famous singer Corey Taylor of the band Slipknot. That seems like reason enough to keep it on Wikipedia. I'd appreciate your consideration in this matter. Thank you. Richardcheese2 (talk) 09:18, 19 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm not an administrator, so I can't access the text of deleted pages. You can ask User:Bbb23, who deleted the page, but if your intention is to re-create the page, you're going to have a bad time, because it's been deleted twice in one month. You might consider going through WP:AFC, but your reasons why Johnny Aloha is notable aren't convincing: maybe the CD itself is notable, although that's also debatable, but that certainly doesn't make Aloha as a character independently notable.
Another point: you're still persisting in writing about yourself on Wikipedia, and that's a serious concern. I haven't had the time or the energy lately to address the articles that you're working on, but you're certainly too close to the topic to realise just how promotional they look to uninvolved editors. --Slashme (talk) 08:48, 20 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Mos Eisley Cantina edit

As others have pointed out, it is problematic that you're editing articles about yourself and things you're directly involved with - this is generally not recommended due to conflict of interest. I just redirected The Star Wars Cantina to Mos Eisley Cantina but I just noticed your edit summaries on the first page where you said you were providing "correct information." Again, as others have recommended, it would be better to suggest edits on the talk pages of the relevant articles, to let unconnected third party editors assess them and edit as appropriate. It is also better to have The Star Wars Cantina be a redirect to the main article that deals with the song, rather than having more than one article on the same subject, especially as I see a lot of the information is duplicated between the articles. Hope that makes sense.... Mabalu (talk) 01:10, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

  Hello Richardcheese2, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Mark Jonathan Davis have been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. /wiae 🎄 01:41, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Johnny Aloha edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Johnny Aloha requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". February 2017 edit

  Hello, Richardcheese2. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Kendall-K1 (talk) 02:05, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for May 1 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Richard Cheese, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Leftovers. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Copy edit of Mark Jonathan Davis article edit

Hello! I've completed a copyedit of the Mark Jonathan Davis article. (If this is you, I'd mention that I do remember listening to "Rock Me Jerry Lewis" on Dr. Demento.) I found the article to be in pretty good shape and most of my changes were Manual of Style minutia. If you have any questions about that, feel free to ask (but please {{ping}} me for attention).

While I was at it, I checked the edit histories and didn't find the article to be promotional. I'm going to note this by placing {{Connected contributor}} on the article talk page, and will remove the maintenance templates.

I'm not very good at sourcing material, but I found a couple references and added them to the article. It could use quite a bit of additional citation work.

All the best. – Reidgreg (talk) 01:40, 21 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome for the thanks sent. Just a couple notes on your edits to the article on 31 August.
Wikipedia's Manual of Style recommends hyphenating compound modifiers for clarity. I'll specifically mention "morning show writer". If this article was appearing on an entertainment blog, that'd probably be fine. But for a general and international readership, I'm not sure everyone would know what a "morning show" is or how the three words relate to each other. (This is a particular issue when considering machine translation.) A hyphen will associate two of the three words closer together and make it a bit clearer. Consider:
  • morning show-writer – where "morning" modifies "show-writer". How is uncertain. This could be a person who writes shows in the mornings or a person who writes shows about mornings.
  • morning-show writer - where "morning-show" modifies "writer". So this is a person who writes for morning shows.
It's a very small point. It's generally good to be consistent in an article, and as morning-show producer is hyphenated, morning show writer should probably also get a hyphen.
received extensive airplay on radio stations and is a popular request on The Dr. Demento Show. Generally, since Wikipedia summarizes information that has appeared in reliable sources, most information should be given in the past tense. I feel present tense is more likely to be challenged, and would require constant updating of sources. It can be problematic given Wikipedia's basic principles.
In general, the article could use more sourcing. If you happen to have a scrapbook of newspaper articles mentioning your work, that'd be a great place to start.
All the best. – Reidgreg (talk) 13:28, 31 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Richard Cheese, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ABC (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). August 2020 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing certain pages (Richard Cheese) for your conflict of interest. Conflict of interest editors should not directly edit the articles they create, and instead need to use edit requests on the talk page..
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:35, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I see that no one has been keeping track of your conflict of interest. Since I see you haven't been told recently: do not directly edit articles you have a conflict of interest with!! Instead, please make edit requests on the talk pages of the articles affected. This includes any article that Richard Cheese or his band could be affiliated with, including adding him to lineups. You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abuse of editing privileges.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 00:30, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have extended your block from just the article about you to the whole site. This is because you have evaded your block by either engaging in sock puppetry or meat puppetry. You have used your twitter to ask others to make edits for you in an area where you are blocked and this is considered proxy editing which is also block evasion.

Please know that we are used to people of various levels of fame sending their fans to push their preferred version of an article. We have the tools to deal with that and it never works. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 00:33, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
