New pages patrol newsletter

Hello ReyHahn,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Talk page size

I've worked on archiving away stale or finished topics, so that hopefully now you can just scroll through Talk:Operation Gideon (2020) to see if there's any area you need to opine on. I'm loathe to ping people to discussions, and prefer to keep the talk page to active topics, but will continue to ping you if that's what is easier for you. Regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:54, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

Please, continue to ping me if you need some quick feedback. Unfortunately I am unable to dig very deep into the sources right now. I will try to be more reactive starting next week.--ReyHahn (talk) 09:27, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Narges Mohammadi

On 8 October 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Narges Mohammadi, which you nominated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Ed [talk] [OMT] 06:22, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

Borde-Guth-Vilenkin theorem

Hi! I found that article from its discussion in one of Aron Ra's recent videos. If you look closely, a testimony from Vilenkin that flat empty space is consistent in eternity is a part of the article itself, in its "Consistency" section. So maybe it's worth reinstating the reference, as this is an omission of valuable relevant info? Strecosaurus (talk) 22:44, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

https://callidusphilo.blogspot.com/2021/04/cosmology.html (ctrl+f "Rube Goldberg") also gives an informal and accessible explanation — Preceding unsigned comment added by Strecosaurus (talkcontribs) 22:50, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

@ReyHahn: Pinging (sorry I only noticed the request to not mention specific edits on your talk page now, oops... well I can't erase it here..) Strecosaurus (talk) 23:02, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

But anyway, I'm not a terribly experienced Wikipedian (and I was often voted wrong in edit judgements in the past), so I'll leave the final judgement to you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Strecosaurus (talkcontribs) 23:37, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

Please please do not spam this talk page. I get really frustrated when we have to discuss details of articles outside the main article. Also do not forget to sign your comments. Let us continue at Talk:Borde–Guth–Vilenkin theorem.--ReyHahn (talk) 08:10, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Interlanguage link template

Hi. I couldn't help but notice your query regarding the interlanguage link template. While this might be a crude solution, you could try adding the language link directly in the source code, such as ([[:de:Example|de]]), possibly also using <small> </small> if needed. Best regards. NoonIcarus (talk) 22:25, 15 October 2023 (UTC)

@NoonIcarus: I am actually ok with the current implementation of {{ill}}. I was trying to look for a solution for another user who insisted to not use it because of red link (the user appears to not like the additional link to the side either). See then my conclusion and vote at H:FOREIGNLINK's talk page.--ReyHahn (talk) 07:15, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Just reading through the discussion, many thanks. I don't feel too invested on the issue, but I'll try to weigh in later. Thanks once again and happy editing, --NoonIcarus (talk) 08:56, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
Proforma, I never objected to the redlink, I objected to it being editor friendly and user unfriendly, particularly the [de], but nobody wanted to listen and kept deciding that I said something else, so I gave up. Ldm1954 (talk) 15:40, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
