Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Retardipedia Signature edit

A tag has been placed on Template:Retardipedia Signature requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. CharlieTheCabbie (talk) 22:51, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Your signature template edit

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia. The editor who nominated your signature template for deletion had doubts afterwards and asked me: I think it was probably a mistake, and I will undelete it if you like but, actually, you don't need it in order to make a custom signature without having to type it each time. If you click on "Preferences" at the top of the page, on the "User profile" tab there is a "signature" section. If you enter the code you used in your template in the box marked "signature", and check the box "Treat the above as wiki markup", you will be able to sign in the normal way by typing four tildes ~~~~, which the system will turn into your preferred signature plus the date and time.

That will achieve the same effect as using a template. Actually using a template in the signature field is forbidden unless it is "subst"-ed, and even then is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at WP:SIG#NT. It is worth reading the whole of WP:Signatures.

Yes, I want that template that I made. I believe Wikipedians should have a signature template so it can be easy for them even if it's a quick message. By I'm meaning that, people have retro and cool signature and I want that. So please reply to me. I want my own custom signature. Retardipedia (talk) 19:07, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
You can certainly have the custom signature you want, but a template is not the way to do it. The way to sign a message is to end it by typing four tilde characters ~~~~. The system converts that into a signature in a form which is recognised by internal systems like archiving bots, and includes a link to your talk page, which is required by the WP:Signatures policy. That is just as easy, or easier, than typing the name of a template.
Using a template within a signature causes problems, see WP:SIG#NT. But you can make the signature produced by ~~~~ show as you want it by clicking "Preferences" at the top of the page, and on the "User profile" tab copying into the "signature" box the wiki markup code you want, which is:

<span style="color:blue;">Retard</span><span style="color:magenta;">ipedia</span>, <span style="color:purple;">The Retard of Wikipedia</span> (see below)

and then checking the box marked "Treat the above as wiki markup" and clicking "Save" at the bottom of the page. Copy the code from this page; don't include the "tt" and "nowiki" tags I used on the edit screen to make it show right.
More detail at WP:CUSTOMSIG. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:13, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Correction: I just experimented to see whether that was right, and it isn't - it doesn't link properly. The code you want is:

[[User:Retardipedia|<span style="color:blue;">Retard</span><span style="color:magenta;">ipedia</span>, <span style="color:purple;">The Retard of Wikipedia</span>]] ([[User talk:Retardipedia|talk]])

You could tweak that further, if you like, to alter the appearance of the "talk" link to your talk page. Before you try anything too elaborate, read the whole of WP:Signatures which explains some things you shouldn't do.
Signatures are used on talk pages, but not in articles (because they are a collaborative work, and the history shows who contributed what) or in edit summaries. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:35, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

March 2014 edit

Hello, I'm Uncle Milty. An edit that you recently made to Pratyangira seemed to be a test and has been removed. If you want more practice editing, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! | Uncle Milty | talk | 00:02, 16 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Pratyangira Maala mantra. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism. Widr (talk) 08:24, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
