Re: Hergest Ridge cover edit
There are about 20 albums made by Mike and it's quite impossible to place all of the covers on the article without making it look cluttered. So, I picked the ones with the better-looking cover art and the ones which have a good reason to remain in the article because of its importance. Unless there's any good reason, I'm afraid to say that Hergest Ridge is the first one to go. ;) --Andylkl (talk) 13:27, August 18, 2005 (UTC)
Doug Walters - century in a session edit
On three occasions he hit a century in a session, most famously in Perth against England in 1974, where he hit Bob Willis for six from the last ball of the day
It appears that Walters did it only twice - Port of Spain 1972/3 and [Perth 1974/5.
Oxford Companion to Australian Cricket mentions that he did it thrice and includes Auckland 1973/4 but this appears to be wrong. In a message board where I hang around, we have a prominent Australian statistician as a member who has access to the scorebooks. I checked it with him. Walters came to the wicket at 11:34 and lunch was either 12:30 or 1:00. He took 158 minutes to reach 100. So it clearly looks impossible that Walters could have done it.
Does your source mention what the three matches are ?

New feature in FPC archival bot edit
Just want to make aware of a certain new feature in Kurando-san... If it can not, for any reason, read a date from a page, technically it will post that it skipped what candidate and post that in the talk page of the FPC daily until it's fixed. --AllyUnion (talk) 03:30, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

FPC Bot edit
FPC Bot runs on a daily basis, by the way. I can't frequently check the Wikipedia, so I don't know always whether or not my bot has successfully run for the day. Raven, I wanted to drop you a line to ask if you'd be interested in voting on my admin candidacy. I've seen you a lot in voting on FP's and thought you might have a somewhat good or positive idea of me and what kind of work I do. I might have been wrong about the whole featured diagrams issue that came up, but figured you might still have a good view of my contributing otherwise. I'm kind of having a personal tiff with a certain user right now and would appreciate your vote if you feel i'm qualified enough. I also answered the usual questions at the bottom of my nomination form you can read if interested. I'd jut like to get the change to make wikipedia even better and I think this would allow me to do so. Just thoguht I'd see if you'd help me out with it. Hammond graph edit

Template:Support edit
Thanks for the info. However, there are two major problems here:
- I didn't give anyone the right to change my votes.
- It's not my fault that the admin to delete the template against the wikipedia rules forgot to add the <noinclude> and <includeonly> parameters. If he/she did, the whole tag would not show up.

Hi, I just noticed your test batting performance graph on Sachin Tendulkar. It is fabulous. thanks for the same! However, you may want to consider changing the axis values for the average as it is very difficult to make out what the average is - may I suggest intervals of 10 runs for the average and that this axis be on the right side of the graph to prevent confusion? Batting graphs edit
Hi. Do you think you could add something like "as of 2005-11-01", or whatever is relevant to the captions of batting graphs that you add to current players? Featured pictures edit
Hi Raven, first of all, thanks for the work you're doing as moderator in the featured pictures. Much appreciated. :) I did have a question, though, about the process of deciding which edit of a featured picture is to be used. I just noticed that the original Astronaut and Earth [[1]] featured picture had been kept. I know that the voting was for the most part vague about which edit people most strongly supported, but as I mentioned in my comments, I felt like my edit had the most value as it was slightly reduced in size and therefore easier to view, but due to the original copy's soft lines, didn't actually contain any less detail. Furthermore I increased contrast slightly and reduced visible noise. I also reduced the file size from approximately 7000kb down to 700kb while not losing any significant quality. I know I'm biased about my own edit, but is there a process that you go through in deciding which edit is most suitable or do you generally just retain the original copy unless there is an overwhelming consensus agreeing otherwise? - Ahhh, they're all a bunch of philistines. ;) I can appreciate that you can't do much about promoting something that has not even received any comments. As I've said in other comments, it seems as though people are only motivated to comment on earth-shattering photos/edits. :) The subtle ones go unnoticed. Thanks anyway. Featured picture, Buzz Aldrin on Moon edit
Thanks for your clarification regarding FPs and POTDs. I can see they are different entities now. (I don't understand why there are two different categories, but that is not my main issue here). However, since, as you say, every FP will eventually become a POTD, and there is--as it currently stands--only one POTD allowed per day, then the number of images that become POTDs is limited to one per day, is it not? So, I still don't see how people can be saying that each article goes in on its own merits. If we had 30 awesome shots of men on the moon, would we nominate and promote all of those, when there are so many other articles with important illustrations that should be given recognition? Does that make sense? I understand that not enough FPCs are being promoted to FP status, but I don't see the solution being >1 nomination of the same thing. Jeeb 22:08, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Cricket Graphs Question edit
I was just curious about the running averages that you have on these graphs. Do they take into account not-out innings too? for example, If I were to play 2 innings, the first one scoring 50*, the second scoring 50, would my average be 100 or 50? If the answer is 50, it might pay to add this to your disclaimer at the bottom. Just a though. Cheers Sjkebab

Hi there. I've been working a lot on biographies of cricket players lately and I would like to know where you get the statistics from for the individual innings (by which I mean, innings plural) in which a batsman participates. Cricketbase and Cricinfo appear to cover the first and last innings of a batsman but don't appear to specify exactly the innings he played inbetween. If there is a single place which lists all the test matches in which a batsman participates which I'm not aware of, where would it be?
I'm keen to add to these statistics as and when necessary and would like to know how to make some of my own so that I can add them to articles. Bobo192 07:10, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

A-ha. I didn't realize that. I'll give my Excel-writing skills a test using the Cricinfo innings-by-innings list and see where that takes me.
I make the graphs using Microsoft Excel. I copy the StatsGuru list into a .txt document using notepad, then open it up using Excel. Then it's simply a matter of using formulae to calculate the sum and average of the last 10 innings, then placing them on a chart.
As I say, I'm going to attempt to write one and then put it somewhere I can find it easily to see whether or not I'm doing the right thing, and I'll take it from there. Canberra Photos edit
Hi Raven, I would very much appreciate your input in the following argument. There seems to be a gang of users unwilling to allow anyone to interfere with there Canberra project without invitation. It was risky to take my camera on our school excursion to Canberra, but I did for the sake of the photos I could upload to Wiki. Needless to say, I'm deeply distressed over the reaction that has taken place. In particular, I would like to ask if the removal of all my photos off the Lake Burley Griffin article was a step forward in the usefullness of the page. Kurando-san edit
Here's something I've never seen happen before; the nominator has included a date in the description of Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Felix the Cat and the bot has picked this up as the nomination date. That's something I never thought could happen, and I'll have to post a message somewhere warning people not to put any dates above the nomination date. Perhaps it would be best if the nomination pages had a line directly below the title saying "Nominated 5th December 2005" or something like that, above the description. Would the bot pick this up correctly? Is there a way to include the current time in the code, because that would be perfect and it would solve problems like this. - Read the bot's userpage, here. If you notice on the notes section of the page below, it has indicated that it will indeed work. The logical reasoning behind this is that I can not base the nomination on the history, as I do not reliably know which edit in the history indicates the date in which it was first nominated. --AllyUnion (talk) 09:33, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

That's ok, I could bitch and moan about how parody is covered under U.S Fair Use(which is true, to my understanding), but I stopped because getting into an argument with Ral and Proto about it. Arguments are generally unproductive, and especially here since my goal was to calm WF down and that didn't seem to work all that well. I actually only voted on the RFA because I happened by the page. I personally think that we should make it harder to become an admin, not easier. I see too many votes that are 50-0 for no sensible reason. Given that once an admin is proclaimed admin for all intents and purposes they can never be dismissed (I note there have been all of what 4 people who have ever been dismissed as admins, all through long and complicated ArbComs), I think that we should be extraordinarily wary to quickly promote someone to admin. Perhaps I was being petty there, but I for one think that he has barely done anything here. Note that he has made all of what 100 contributions to Wikipedia, other than reverting vandalism, and that, other than the past month, he had made about 10 contributions. So, whilst he started off technically in August, realistically he started in November, the same time as me. And I had a lot more edits, and I didn't spend my time reverting other people's edits - I actually contributed to Wikipedia. My edits weren't tiny either. Now, I for one think that I am so far removed from being suitable for adminship that it's not funny. I really have no idea what I am doing. Just because someone knows how to revert an edit doesn't make them worthy. If the standards are that low, then I think that there is a big problem. I for one would rather see a good contributor than someone who spends all their time reverting vandalism and telling people off. That to me says that they are someone who likes telling people off. Okay, if we can go through each and every one of Mo0's "vandalism" reverts, and check them, and we find that at least 90% of them were actually vandalism, then I will agree with you. However, I have noticed that a lot of people regularly say "reverting vandalism" when it is not vandalism at all. One admin once reverted "vandalism" on Peter Falconio disappearance after someone had written in the names of the defence lawyers. I had to re-add them. People also often say "rvv" as a tool to fuel an edit war. So I'd like some confirmation that it really is vandalism first.
But my issue was not with regards to him making vandalism. My issue was more the issue of power. Someone who *likes* doing nasty things is likely to abuse their power. They are the kind of people who I would never allow in positions of power. I'd rather someone who hates having to do nasty things than someone who likes doing it. FPC bot problem again edit
Today Kurando-san performed a strange move on Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Lille Marsh. It was moved from third from the top of the main section (see here) to the very bottom of the section (here), but not into the older than 14 days section. Um, I was Wikipedia's number 1 supporter of Daniel Brandt :). I even got accused of being him, and got my own wikistalker because of my efforts to back him up. I was working towards trying to make everyone get along. But he then turned around and said that I was "prematurely ejaculating" over my writing to Jimbo Wales to ask him to deal with an abusive user who did a Denial of Service attack on Brandt's web site. In spite of Wales agreeing and acting to stop the abusive user, Brandt stepped in to say that he didn't want that to happen. Brandt didn't say thanks for me for getting him unbanned, or cleaning up his article, or getting everyone to make peace with him. I went through a lot of abuse to back him up, and in response he tells me that I got a few facts wrong, in other words that I am not him and don't know his every intimate detail and because he hides everything and won't tell anyone everything we have to guess. But no, he didn't say thanks because I pointed out that he didn't start Google Watch because he was upset at not being popular enough, that he wasn't an attention seeker, that his list of users isn't an attempt to invade people's privacy - that it's actually a list of suspected CIA agents, and so forth. Perhaps he objected because I refused to say that he wasn't a crackpot - maybe he took offence at that. I don't know. Basically, he stabbed me in the back. Just a little bit of thanks would have been nice, instead of threatening to expose me (state my real name and contact details and personal info that I gave to him so that he could trust me). Thanks for asking. What I usually do is page through the user's contributions in Wikipedia and Wikipedia_talk namespaces. These days, there have been a lot of nominations with a substantial lack of those (other than AFD votes, but that hardly counts for experience in my view). I believe an Admin should have reasonable experience with a couple of WikiProcesses, because admins are often called upon to adjudicate them, and because it's part of "common knowledge" I expect of established users. I realize that my criterion for adminship is more stringent than most (indeed, many people use the criterion "he seems friendly enough"), but that's really not a problem; when I oppose someone, my point is to advise them of things that could be improved; my point is not that the nomination must fail. I do hope that if/when a candidate that I opposed passes, he can still take the advice to heart and thereby improve himself (and indeed, I've gotten some positive responses along those lines). HTH! I just wanted to thank you for supporting me in my RfA. To tell you the truth, I was surprised by all the support I've gotten. I never saw myself as more than an occasional Wiki-hobbyist.
My wife sends her curses, as Wikipedia will likely suck up more of my time. She jokingly (I think) said she was tempted to log on to Wikipedia just to vote Oppose and let everyone know that she didn't want her husband to be an admin.

Gallery and FPC edit
In my view moving it (the Crepuscular ray pic) to the top isn't sufficient. It needs a specific caption which actualy adds content to the article. Moving it to the top wouldn't help especially if it just moved the current FP on that article to the bottom of the page. I just don't think an article with such a short caption and surrounded by all of the other pictures can satisfy WP:WIAFP (note: I wrote that standard so of course it's biased).
