Citing sources

When inserting citations into your article, the linked source (be it a journal article, book, or website) should actually verify the content that you are writing. For example, if you state that The SAF is very active in improving the quality of postsecondary forestry education in the United States, working with partner institutions including the National Association of University Forest Resources Programs (NAUFRP)¹, the Council of Eastern Forest Technician Schools(CEFTS)², and the Food and Agriculture Education Information System (FAEIS)³. then references [1], [2], and [3], should actually verify those partnerships, rather than being simply links to those organizations' homepages. COI

I have been a member of the Society of American Foresters since 1968 and was elected a Fellow of the Society in 2017. I am currently the Senior Research Fellow at the Society's headquarters in Bethesda, MD.

The previous version of the Society of American Forester's wikipedia entry dated to 2010 and has apparently not been edited by anyone since then. There have beened many changes in SAF since then, but no one has provided any corrections. This has created a situation where inaccurate and incorrect information is being provided to wikipedia viewers.

I have attempted to rewrite the entry with a neutral voice and with appropriate references to other websites and available online information. But my contributions are open to editing, provided that the edits do reflect the many changes that have occurred over the past 10 years.

I have read the Conflict of Interest guidelines for wikipedia and I think I understand them. They do make it difficult for anyone associated with a professional organization like the Society of American Foresters to correct errors or outdated facts. If there is some neutral party or wikipedia editor who is not an SAF member who can undertake those revisions with me, I'd be glad to work with that individual. But to let decade-old incorrect information stand in wikipedia seems to me to be counter to its goals.

Are you being paid by SAF to edit their Wikipedia page (in which case, WP:PAID applies), or are you simply updating their page on your own time because of a sense of loyalty to your employer (in which case, WP:COI applies)? For any future edits, I recommend that you request updates at the article's talk page rather than editing the article directly. WikiDan61^ChatMe!_ReadMe!! 12:47, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
