Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal

Thanks for re-assessing this article. Since you wrote on the project page that it was almost a B-class, have you got any hints at what needs improving in order to make it B-class, please? Bob1960evens (talk) 18:46, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

The article is "good" but it lacks in-line citations in some places (see WP:VERIFY), for example the "Llanhiddel Railway" and the "Sirhowy Tramroad" sections don't have any. These are relatively minor changes, so it can be reclassed as B without too much work. C-class is a new classification, I would have given it a B otherwise.Pyrotec (talk) 14:36, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

I have found references for the Sirhowy Tramroad, but nothing sensible for the Llanhiddel Railway. Both sections were there before I started. As with much of the original article, they did not seem to follow much (chronological) order, and I am still not sure about some of it. Hi Bob, Yes, Sirhowy, is a problem for me as well.

• Its mentioned in Awdry, Christopher (1990). Encyclopaedia of British Railway Companies. Sparkford: Patrick Stephens Ltd. ISBN 1-8526-0049-7. OCLC 19514063. CN 8983., incorporated 26 June 1802, opened 1805 - ironworks to Canal, converted to Railway 1860.
• Its mentioned in Russell, Ronald (1971). "Lost Canals of England and Wales who refers to Baxter.
• I have a copy of Baxter, Bertram (1966). Stone Blocks and Iron Rails (Tramroads) (1st ed.). Newton Abbot: David & Charles.

,but it was bound with pages 221 to 237 missing; and guess where the detailed gazette covering Sirhowy (it actually covers Camathenshire, Pembrokeshire and the whole of Scotland) comes??. But I've tracked another copy down. (And reserved it)

I got the book. No mention of Llanhiddel tramway in the details of 21 tramways connected with the Monmouthshire canal. Outrams comments are attributed to the Beaufort Tramway, which does not go to Argoed (The Sirhowey does). I am tempted to just delete that section, and add a more general section on tramways. Hi Bob, Baxter mentions the Llanhilleth tramway from Crumlin Bridge to Llanhilleth and Cwm Cyffin - owner Llanhilleth Coal co. (also gives date and OS sheet SO20SW. Llanhilleth, and Llanhilleth Colliery are listed in the RCH Handbook of railway stations 1904. I think we may have a typo. The railway magazine, "BackTrack" [1] has two articles on the Monmouthshire Railway & Canal Company. Part one in Backtrack Vol 22, No. 5 (May 2008) pp 302-310 and Part 2: Vol 22, No. 6 (June 2008) pp 368-378. Part 2 has all the references and its "further reading" lists 25 books. Hi Pyrotec, I have also found the Llanhilleth, dates 1799-1918, (oops - should be 1819), Engineer unknown. The Cwm Cyffin tramway is shown on the 1842 map, and Llanhilleth station on the 1940 map. The Welsh spelling of the name is Llanhiledd, (same pronunciation) so we just have a transposition of the consonants, I think. Bob1960evens (talk) 21:04, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Ince & Elton railway station

Hi, I appreciate the work you have recently carried out to Ince and Elton railway station,Your book reference author is unrecognized by Wikipedia, for greater integrity, you may wish to start this article, or provide a link to the books website etc...

You then tagged the History article, as an expansion topic. There is fairly little, if anything you can do now, particularly as this is just a standard railway station- the only notable thing about it is the sporadic service. If there was more to say, I am sure you would have written it from the book you reference.

Another quick note, I am about to add updated photos to Stanlow and Thornton railway station, to enhance the recently revised article. It would be good if you could use the above book and update the opening date, as well as whatever historic information you are aware of.

re your edits to the Railway gun page

Hi, you seem to have an interest in the railway guns in WWII.. I've added an image of the 18 inch how Boche Buster.. I got the location & date from the IWM site, and they give the photo location as "Bourne Park Tunnel, at Bishopsbourne in Kent". Appears to be a different line to the one mentioned in the article, "Elham Valley Railway, between Bridge and Lyminge". Hi Bob, Its now about B class, but I'll do a bit of cleaning up. I raised it from Start class to C class, rather than B-class, because it was rather short of in-line citations & references. I'll add a bit more. It has the makings of a GA article.Pyrotec (talk) 08:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Carnoustie assessment scale

Its good, certainly B class, so I've changed it from C to B class. Note that the in-line citations are inconsistently placed: some are inside that comma / full stop and some are outside, that needs to be made consistent. Having had a second look, the second half your introduction (or lede as it is sometimes known) is all one sentence paragraphs. Some (all?) GA reviewers will not accept that, so they need combining in a logical manner. Also, it might be worthwhile reading Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements. Sankey Canal article

Hi, I wonder if you could point me in the right direction. I found the Sankey Canal article, with two tags, one for cleanup, the other for refs. I've had a go at improving some of the sentence structure and grammer, but is there any way on knowing why the tag was put on? It is not listed in the cleanup list for Feb 2007. And who decides when it is cleaned up enough? I've also added some refs, but will need quite a few more before that tag can be removed, I think. Thanks. Hi Bob, Anyone can add or remove these tags; most articles are on various editor's "watch lists" so these actions are seen and if considered controversial, can be changed, challenged, conversations start, edit wars start, etc. However, if they don't appear to controversial, they tend to be left in place. Hopefully someone then fixes the problem and the tag is removed. From the history section it appears that I added the {unreferenced} flag on 24 February 2007. As a way forward, I'll reclassify it from Start-class to C-class, remove the {clean up} tag and change the {unref} tag to {refimprove}. Pyrotec (talk) 08:40, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
