October 2018 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Pussycontrol", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it may be considered offensive. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing this form, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Please request a change of username. I don't see much wrong with your edits. Additionally, if Price (musician is protected, use that page's talk page to request changes. Anarchyte (talk | work) 03:36, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello. My username should not be considered offensive. My username is that of a fictional character, Pussy Control, and not a reference to vulva. Pussycontrol (talk) 06:57, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
The prince song was only temporarily known as "Pussy Control"; it was changed to "P. Control". However, given this isn't an open and shut case, would you be opposed to me making an entry at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names? That would also mean you wouldn't have to worry about other admins or users asking (no matter the outcome). Anarchyte (talk | work) 07:17, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I completely believe that you meant nothing offensive by your username. However, I think it would save you grief in the future if you proceed as Anarchyte suggests, regardless of the outcome. 331dot (talk) 10:56, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello again. I do not believe this username should be considered offensive, so I would not be minded to voluntarily change it. However, I understand that it could potentially be misconstrued as such and would therefore have no problem constructively engaging with the Wikipedia community to resolve any issue with it, whatever the outcome. Pussycontrol (talk) 12:58, 8 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
See here. It may be open for a few days. Anarchyte (talk | work) 02:30, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Use of resources edit

We are volunteers. Our time is best spent building the encyclopedia. If there is a long discussion over this username, it wastes resources. It would be nice if you would just pick a different username and start building the encyclopedia too. Would that be okay? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:16, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Anna. That is exactly what I have tried to do. Unfortunately my time is also being wasted. Pussycontrol (talk) 22:19, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Great news! So, what username would you like? Let's sort this out fast so you can get started editing. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:21, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Please respond here with your new username before posting elsewhere. Thank you. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:29, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
"Love4OneAnother". Pussycontrol (talk) 23:36, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Anna Frodesiak, a name is proposed. Drmies (talk) 00:08, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

October 2018 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

I've blocked you per WP:NOTHERE. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:36, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I was blocked without warning, having contributed constructively and with good faith toward Wikipedia. Pussycontrol (talk) 22:38, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

No, you were warned, we haven't seen constructive contributions, and I do doubt your good faith given that you're picking fights with admins. Drmies (talk) 23:03, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I suggested that you just pick a new username. Your response was "That is exactly what I have tried to do." followed by " I do not wish to change my username."
I asked you to post here with your new username before posting elsewhere. You responded with a post at a noticeboard.
I think you are here trolling.
Anna Frodesiak(talk) 22:42, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I believe that Anna Frodesiak(talk) at no point showed me good faith and decided to blocky me extremely quickly, before I was able to constructively engage with the Wikipedia community on the topic at hand. I therefore suggest Anna Frodesiak(talk) abused and misued her powers in this instance and that should be reviewed and reconsidered--and I should be unblocked and reallowed to discuss matters with the Wikipedia community..
"I suggested that you just pick a new username. Your response was "That is exactly what I have tried to do."--this is demonstrably untrue and only seeks to undermine and discredit the admin who has mistakenly and negligently blocked me. Pussycontrol (talk) 22:50, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

After being here for 10 years and reading the very old and telling "misued her powers", I can predict that your unblock request will be declined, and then you will protest more, and then your talk page access will be removed.

Here's another (and likely only) path: pick an new username, get unblocked (maybe by another admin) and start editing constructively. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:52, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

I feel you are unobjective. You have not clearly followed any process. Please contact a non-biased admin, Wikipedia:Administrators#UNINVOLVED, so that I will be unblocked and be able to contribute positively to this website, as I had originally intended.
Just change your username. It is the biggest problem here. If you do, I think you'll be unblocked. funplussmart (talk) 23:00, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I edit conflicted with Drmies in declining the appeal, however I'd like to include my wording here as I think we're past simply requiring a rename: "At this point I wouldn't unblock you even if you did choose a viable new username. Best case scenario is that there is a competence issue that needs to be addressed, but I'm with Anna Frodesiak in that I believe that you're trolling." --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 23:11, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I call gender bias in Wikipedia and editing in bad faith. I therefore request a formal appeal. Pussycontrol (talk) 23:15, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
As I have said many times, I am not wholly opposed to a forced username change. However, I do feel an element of sexism involved here. My edits would clearly show no trolling involved and I feel a block is wholly disproportionate. Pussycontrol (talk) 23:19, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Strong words, Ponyo. I'd give them one more chance--but you know me, I'm a softie. Drmies (talk) 23:13, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I've explained why I have joined Wikipedia. I have done this consistently. I believe I have been blocked because I have not not accepted Wikipedia's patriarchal viewpoint. Nevertheless, I came here solely to improve the website. So I don't know what I have objectively done wrong. Pussycontrol (talk) 23:23, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I need to go to bed now, but please advise me on how to reverse this nonsense. Because I came here specifically to improve some of Wikipedia's poorer (but apparently high importance) articles-- and I am still wishing to do so. I do not see how I have done anything to be considered worthy of being blocked. So, please, sincerely, advise me on how I can do this. Thank you, Pussycontrol (talk) 23:29, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Okay, you don't like my username. I would have been fine with changing it had it been made clear it was unacceptable. But it wasn't. I feel a block is completely disproportionate and unhelpful to the goal of free knowledge, for which I signed up to this. Pussycontrol (talk) 23:33, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
No, we all think that your username is unacceptable; that's not the same thing. I ping Anna Frodesiak since you proposed a username, above. I think you should drop this "patriarchal" talk. Many of us here on this very talk page are women who have been duking it out with the patriarchy for quite a while. Drmies (talk) 00:11, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that you are not here to build an encyclopedia. In addition, your ability to edit your talk page has also been revoked.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then submit a request to the Unblock Ticket Request System.  Ad Orientem (talk) 23:51, 9 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Drmies & Anna Frodesiak If either of you want to restore tpa I won't object. But FWIW nothing I have seen from this editor suggests that they play and get along well with others. If either or both of you disagree though, I will defer to your judgement. -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:23, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Shoot Ad Orientem, I'm sorry--I didn't know you yanked TPA, which I perfectly understand. How bout I restore it, and you scrap this off your watchlist so you don't have to bother with it anymore. Anna, Ponyo, and I will keep an eye on it. P-control, I will restore your access to this talk page and if you got something to say, ping us three. Drmies (talk) 00:30, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unblocked edit

Your suggested username "User:Love4OneAnother" is acceptable.

You are unblocked.

Please visit Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple, and follow instructions there.

Make sure that you do not edit anywhere other than Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple.

If you do not put in for a username change within a day or two, this account will be reblocked.

Once you have your new username, please feel welcome here and enjoy helping to build the encyclopedia.

Please do not pursue this old username matter. If you do, you can expect to be reblocked indefinitely.

Thank you for your understanding.

Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:00, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

By the way... edit

By the way, the reason it is best to abandon this old username is because, right or wrong, others, over time, would find it objectionable. That would be disruptive and waste resources. If the only editors registered here were the people you have thus far interacted with, nobody would care about the pussycontrol name. The name change is in the best interest of Wikipedia. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:00, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunate that it degenerated to this. Still, don't let this stop you from wanting to fix up old Prince articles (after the username change) as you seem dedicated. Anarchyte (talk | work) 03:21, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your kind words Anarchyte. Unfortunately, this experience has greatly put me off doing so and I think it is unlikely I will now attempt to contribute to Wikipedia as I had planned. Pussycontrol (talk) 06:00, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Understood. So, shall I reblock the account then? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 06:27, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. If I decide I do want to contribute to Wikipedia, would it be acceptable to simply start afresh with a new account at some point in the future? If not, then please do not reblock. If that is acceptable, then do whatever you like. Pussycontrol (talk) 06:31, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi Pussycontrol. Admins User:Drmies and User:Ponyo may have other views, but I am not sure that would be a great idea. Fighting for this username has been pretty disruptive so far and I would not want to see this happen all over again.
When you read the first paragraph in this post, do you understand that we are just doing our jobs here? I can understand you being put off Wikipedia. When I started here, I had a bad experience and was put off too. But I was put off by a real nasty. You have been put off by a bad experience that you made and continued, and continued.
My view is that you, right away, get your new username, and then get started editing. We can all be friends and all help you get editing if you like. This is a fun place to be. So, why not just get on with it and put all this behind you.
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:11, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Anna. Unfortunately, however, negative, innaccurate and bad faith comments like [1], [2], [3] from users whose experience should show greater maturity seem to suggest that Wikipedia has a negative, almost bullying, environment. After all, all of my edits not pertaining to my username have been constructive, in good faith and with a desire to improve Wikipedia. I am saddened that a mere difference of opinion over one word has led to such a dispiriting experience and am now minded to believe that Wikipedia is not a good place in which to spend one's time. Pussycontrol (talk) 07:55, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Okay, I'm sorry it turned out this way. I've reblocked your account. Best of luck, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:45, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • @Anna Frodesiak: sorry to stretch this further, but for clarity: do you consider this a username softblock, or a not-here hardblock? I'm not really clear from the logs. Just to head off any future discussion about whether the user can create a new account with an acceptable username and continue editing. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:16, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ivanvector. Good question. I've pinged the Drmies and Ponyo above about this. I am of the view that this is a hardblock due to the disruption. If this user wishes to edit here, then requesting a new username here is the path. Your views are very welcome here. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:20, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Anna Frodesiak, in my opinion the username is a secondary issue. Concerns were raised, respectfully, regarding the username and the editor's response was to invoke gender bias as the only possible reason why the name may be found to be offensive. They then doubled down on "gender bias" as the reason for the request for the name change, despite noting initially they were completely open to changing it, and everything quickly went downhill from there.
I cannot fathom signing up to a website that I'm unfamiliar with and then personally attacking an entire subset of the website's users like this. When Anna Frodesiak blocked due to the ongoing disruption, the OPs response was that they were abusing their power and oddly invoked WP:INVOLVED, assuming they couldn't go with the (by this time standard) "men are attacking me" response given Anna's gender. Either this editor, who was clearly aware of the topic of gender bias on Wikipedia prior to creating their account, chose a name that could easily be misinterpreted, pretended to be open to changing it, and doubled down on personal attacks to keep it, or it's outright trolling. Either way, the actual username itself is not the crux of the issue. --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 18:05, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ponyo, agreed. Then after providing the path of new username and entry into the community, there was the predicted now you all have soured things for me routine. Old as coal. It was trolling all along and a waste of resources. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:18, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
(talk page watcher) May I suggest that, whatever account is used moving forward, the editor is notified of the relevant DS? It might make the context into which they have fallen clearer, and make it easier to adjust. ——SerialNumber54129 18:23, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what DS is, but I do know what DENY is, and the latter should probably be applied here and now. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:27, 10 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
