Kumul vs. Hami

Please do not make major changes to the naming of articles without discussing it first. Kumul is the native name of the city and there is consensus for using this name. Again, the native name is Kumul. Likewise, the Wikipedia article about Urumqi is not titled "Wulumuqi", Kashgar is not "Kashi", etc.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Kumul. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. What do you mean by native name?? Hami City is the native name, when I travelled there it was by far the most commonly used name by locals. Pub849sp (talk) 22:32, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Well, in my experience all the Uyghurs I know call it Kumul (قۇمۇل), Uyghur publications use that name, and road signs tend to say 哈密 in Chinese and قۇمۇل in Uyghur. So I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

But anyway, our personal experience doesn't matter. Like I said, if you want to change the name you can start a discussion at Talk:Kumul. This page is not the appropriate place to make a decision like that; you should start a discussion at the article's talk page so that more editors can discuss. rʨanaɢ ^talk/_contribs 22:35, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, some Ughurs i met used the kumul, but the vast majority of locals used 'Hami City'.

e.g. Yumin County is called Yumin, more rarely Qaƣantokay, because Yumin was the name most commonly by people living there. thanks

Now I see you're doing this same thing on a bunch of other pages, sinifying non-Chinese names. Again, please do not make massive changes like this without first making a suggestion at a talk page. If you want to make changes across many articles, your best bet is to leave a suggestion at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Chinese) explaining your proposal, and then you can see what other editors have to say. rʨanaɢ ^talk/_contribs 02:34, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Again, your personal impressions from your personal experiences do not count as reliable sources for this sort of thing. I have already given you ample opportunity to start a discussion in one of the appropriate venues and make your proposal. Please do that instead of edit warring. "Most of the local people in this county refer to it as Akesai. thanks" is not a discussion. Stop right now, or I'll block you indefinitely until you acknowledge the concerns.
