Jackson County Courthouse disambig

Hi Propaniac -- About your edits to Jackson County Courthouse disambig, I assume you are unaware of a recent indepth discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation#what is wp:NRHP doing wrong RE disambiguation?. That was a discussion in which i asked for and received guidance. This Jackson County Courthouse dab was in full compliance I believe.

In particular, there was detailed guidance from disambiguation wikiproject members that somewhat repetitive mentions (like of NRHP listing) is appropriate.

So, I will look at whether there is some small change to be made about the non-NRHP entries in the list, but overall i will basically revert your changes now. Great job on the cleanup. Although I have to ask, why remove the entry Boo, Guinea? It does meet the requirements of MOS:DABRL, all that was needed was an accompanying blue link. Thanks. As for Boo, Guinea, I couldn't find any article that offered any kind of appreciable information about the place; it appeared that virtually all the links to it were due to its inclusion (along with about a million other redlinks) on a template of places in the same locality (the article for which did not mention Boo). I admit that I did not go to the effort of clicking every single one of the links just to confirm that there was no actual information there. If you can find a bluelink that talks about Boo, I'm perfectly content to let you add it (or if you want to link to the region or prefecture that Boo is in, I don't really mind that, either, even though such a link won't offer any more information than the disambig entry itself that says "Boo, Guinea is a place in X"). My feeling is generally that if there is no worthwhile article to link, there's no point listing it on the page, which is why I omitted it. If I had to pick an article to link in this case, it would be the Prefecture that lists Boo as one of its many towns/villages. But as I said, I'll leave it up to you to decide. Georgia

"Also" denotes addition, something additional, over and above the already stated. The entry for Georgia states that the term has "two principal meanings" -- and then lists those two meanings. Next, the entry announces additional meanings (i.e. "Georgia may also refer to:") but the two principal meanings are repeated! We have the following choices : (A) Lose the "also", or (B) Lose the repetition of the two principal meanings. The Time Traveller's Wife

Hello Propaniac ... my edits of The Time Traveller's Wife (film) are 100% valid, however my source, an actor in the film, wishes that I do not cite her/him as the source. It's the first page I've ever edited, and I wouldn't have bothered to do so were the details not perfect valid. There seems to be quite a bit of interest in this upcoming film and I believe many will appreciate the new information. "Information loss"

In response to your comment, yes and no. Yes in the fact that for example Herman J. Viola's book has its own reference in the disambiguation page. The two references should be merged into articles rather than left on the disambig page. No in that I meant "information loss" as in losing a valuable disambiguation page, because as you can see, there are many articles related to the term which would become difficult to find without the disambig page. Perhaps you were not aware that the article had been speedied once, prodded, that author removed the prod without explanation, then blanked the page, then recreated it after it was deleted under {{G7}}. My goal was, and always is, to allow the new user to see and participate in the process, so they understand that there's a community of users alongside them, and that the site itself has policies and governance; it's not just a free web space for their playtime or advertising. Bringing this to AfD was not impulsive and arbitrary, even if all of the above did occur in a short period of time. Can you see this? Since gaining the admin tools I don't remember what logs regular users can see. Also, you might have seen the prodding and deprodding if you can see this, or had seen the article before its second speedy deletion. Alison vs. Allison

You helped me with the Stacy (given name) page and related pages. I'm wondering what you think of doing the same thing to Alison and Allison. If someone doesn't know which way Allison is supposed to be spelled, that person might have trouble figuring out how to get to the appropriate Allison's article.

This all began when I had difficulty finding Barbie's friend Stacie because someone on a message board who had a Stacie had misspelled the name.

I still haven't divided up the Stacy names because I was looking for a good disambiguation page that did that. I think we have singers, entertainers in general, and politicians. Alison Krauss is under both spellings, which is why I feel this needs to be done.

Hi Propaniac. I like what you did to clean up the California (disambiguation) page. It was cluttered with a lot of non-relevant items. The opening though I don't think is gramatically correct. Saying "California is one of the United States of America" is like saying "Ontario is one of the Canadas". I agree it sounds like it is correct, but that is only because the name of the United States is in the form of a clause, but in my mind it doesn't seem technically accurate. Disambig pages/piped links

In those two cases, yes, the redirect pages may be used, however, the purpose was to show the actual link, not the redirect page. According to MOS - WP:PIPING, redirect pages usually shouldn't be used on a disambig page, that was the purpose of the edit. --Funandtrvl (talk) 16:10, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Don't get upset about semantics, what I meant is exactly what you described and explained on my talk page (much better than I did). Of course, I agree with you, and I didn't have a chance to update those 2 examples to be inline with the title "Stone" before you came upon it. However, in regards to the edit summary, the purpose is definitely NOT to mislead (and don't ever insinuate that is what I'm doing!!!), it's just a blanket edit summary when using the WP:CLEANER tool, and just a shortcut to not have to explain in detail every single reason for an edit. Titles are easily found. You run an IMDb search on the author's name, and some number come up flagged with (novel "The Pathfinder").

Historically, that page had a lot of contributors. Since I took it over, it's up 30 times in size, but with only a handful of collaborators.

How did you happen to notice the disam issue then if you are not a regular visitor?

Moving townships

Greetings! I see that you have recently moved townships named "Reading Township" in several states, removing the county from the name of the article. I would ask that you avoid going further with this; townships are units of county government, not state government, and for this and other reasons it is helpful to use the naming convention "Township, County, State". In some states, townships have been named "Township, State" unless there were multiple townships in the state with the same name; but that makes the naming unpredictable and inconsistent, and that naming convention has already been abandoned in some states. No Man's Land

A complete accident on moving the article to the wrong capilization. I moved moved No Man's Land to a disambig. (completed successfully) because having articles with titles No Man's Land and no man's land was a confusing. I moved no man's land to No Man's land completely by accident. I requeted an uncontested move of that page to No Man's Land because the disambig. was capitalized and that seemed like the most reasonable way to correct the error. I already pulled the proposed move to no man's land (military) because, you're right, it doen't make sense and was made in haste.

So the intent was for the text page to be moved to No Man's Land and for the disambig. page to reside at No Man's Land (disambiguation) so as to remove the confusion. --Labattblueboy (talk) 21:10, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

When doing these, I'm sure otherwise quite correctly and necessarily, I noticed that on a couple of occasions you've "un-cleaned-up" the punctuation, per MOS:PUNCT, most recently at ruby, for example. (i.e. reversing the existing, MOS-compliant "logical" convention to the US-humanities "aesthetic" one.) Hopefully it's possible to do the one, without the other! Pathfinder

Thanx for the heads up. The link was to explain "blind bombing", not specifically to elucidate pathfinder, but it is confusing, so I'll do a little cleanup and link to the specific group, whose designation was 482nd Bombardment Group (Pathfinder). The USAAF pathfinders were like the RAF Pathfinders listed just above on the disambiguations page (and the reason my edit was added), they were guides (i.e. pathfinders) to and illuminating an obscured target--the RAF using flares and other means, the AAF using radar. The only connection to soldiers who trod the ground in advance of other ground units is that they were distant cousins in that huge entity that was the US Army. Otherwise two completely different animals. Updated template

That user was me that posted the $8 million, because at the time that what was reported. Why it's not there now, I don't know. Maybe a miscalculation. Anyways BOM is not the only box office source that we use. If you have a problem with that site being used, take it to WP:RS/Noticeboard, but the site is currently accepted by the Film Project as a reliable source. Um I don't disagree that we shouldn't use BOM. It's currently projecting a bigger number. So obviously they are doing something right. However, when T-N projects a higher number, then it should be used. Right now it's showing a smaller number than BOM, so apparently they screwed something up the other day. Also in this case, BOM shows that the film is only in 46 theaters, while The-Numbers doesn't—so yes BOM is a better source in this case. I will reflect that in the infobox, so people won't think the movie flopped. My edit summary was just letting you or anyone else know that T-N is still used on WP as a reliable source. Because a lot of people think only BOM should be used. That's all, wasn't trying to be a smart-ass. :) —Mike Allen 22:13, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
