Userspace draft edit

You can create as many user subpages as you like, to work on articles, experiment, etc. The easiest way to do this is to create links to the non-existent pages here on your talk page or - better - your user page, and then click on them to create them. For example, you could put this on your user page;

* User:Privy1/test1
* User:Privy1/test2
* draft
* baa

That will display as;

You can make as many user subpages as you like, and give them any name. By having the links on your user page, it will be convenient to access them.  Chzz  ►  13:34, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I tried pasting into the Sandbox with similar results. Part of the body is still not appearing. But this time, the list was deleted as well. --Privy1 (talk) 14:03, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please just save it - somewhere. Then I can work out what the problem is. Until you save it, I can't see it.  Chzz  ►  14:09, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

How references work edit

Simple references edit

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.

He likes tea.
b) A section called "References" with the special code "reflist";
References
reflist

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Privy1/reftest and try it out.

Named references edit

Chzz was born in 1837.

Chzz lives in Footown.

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates edit

You can put anything you like between , but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals.

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.  Chzz  ►  13:34, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Barbie and Her Careers edit

Re. User:Privy1/Barbie and Her Careers

Thank you for saving it.

I moved the page into your own userspace - so that it is not a live article - because, it needs work before it could go live.

It is now in User:Privy1/Barbie and Her Careers.

Someone has already fixed the references. You were using 'named references' incorrectly; see the help on this page.

There are other problems with the article though; it is not neutral - it isn't appropriate to write things such as ...just another doll without her incredible wardrobe... - because those are opinions, not facts - and this is an Encylcopaedia, so we only state facts. See WP:TONE.

If you need more help, please put helpme right here, on your user talk page, followed by a question.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  14:42, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

how do you get pictures to line up and keep with the correct reference sequence - that is text is written than in some way references Pic, 1,2, 3, then 4 so then you insert Pic 1,2,3, then 4 but they don't appear that way in the preview & they interrupt the next section. Thanks.--Privy1 (talk) 16:23, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you make the article live, I shall probably nominate it for deletion, or rather for merging into Barbie. You need to establish that this article is both notable and capable of being encyclopaedic, separate from Barbie. --ColinFine (talk) 17:55, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

It would be great if it's merged with the Barbie page. Can you help with line-up of the photos? I tried changing the placement of the lines & spacing to no avail. Also with the left, center, right placement, no help either. Thanks.--Privy1 (talk) 18:10, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've put them all into a gallery; that's one option. Otherwise, you should just stick with the basic format of - which puts the image on the right, in a box.
We avoid having too many images and overlapping images, because people read Wikipedia on so many different sized screens - so we try to keep the layout nice and simple.
I think, however, there might be copyright problems with those photos - because they are depicting copyrighted 3-dimensional works. Maybe you could check that on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Oh - also, I put the list into 3 columns, to make it a bit neater.  Chzz  ►  18:18, 20 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Then there are problems with all the pictures on the Barbie page. Thanks for fixing the photo line-up and the - they look gre--Privy1 (talk) 18:29, 20 March 2011 (UTC)at.Reply
