My reasoning was (mostly) contained in the Comments section below it as I was still mulling over the issue when I first posted. The other comments were enough to move me to the opposition. I did see your comment and read through a few of the links, but I find myself agreeing with 2020 me; we might not have infobox "wars" but the remedies of those cases have likely helped keep things quiet. I think the editors who are the most aggressive in making their opinions known know about the remedies, and based on what happened to other editors (who did not play by the rules) have decided to tone it down appreciably. I could be wrong, people could have legitimately moved on. Ask me again in a year and I might more fully agree with you! It doesn't matter if that probation is there or not. I have no idea what "the most aggressive" and "don't play by the rules" means for recent discussion. Please do me a favour, read Mozart, and if you have little time read only the closure and what Voceditenore said, and if you have more time tell me where there's aggression and not playing by the rules in that discussion. - I waited for 10 years already, and one more year doesn't really matter (provided I'll still be alive then). A7 criteria

Some years ago I happened to view Sugar Shot to Space and I recall thinking about deleting it, but deciding instead that someday I should get around to expanding it.

Today I saw that you speedily deleted it per WP:A7, a few days after a speedy A7 nomination was declined because the subject (a science project) wasn't among the eligible topics that qualify for A7.

Some ineligible topics are listed in WP:A7 also, and a science project isn't among those listed either.

I'm just curious (if you can remember 5 years back) aobut your thinking on this. Or was it more of a "I know it when I see it" recognition of an A7 candidate?

As an admin myself, I thought of deleting it too, but the article made a credible claim of significance, so I refrained. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:06, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Honestly couldn't say. If I had to guess, this was one of those cases where I didn't look at the history of the article to see an A7 had been declined, and in my mind it was "an obvious A7" so I just deleted it outright. The caveats and addendums surrounding A7 is one of the reasons I stopped patrolling that particular rationale for deletion... I kept the tab open, nagging me. A week later, I finally re-created the article from scratch instead of undeleting it. Primebot removing WP1.0 and moving Vital

Hi, Primefac; I'm confused by Primebot edits like this one. I see the TFD re removing WP1.0 (good riddance), but at the same time the bot is removing WP1.0, it is also moving Vital out of the bannershell, when WP:TALKLEAD consensus is that they should be in the banner shell. What did I miss ? This has hit my watchlist in more places than I can easily correct manually. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 11:41, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

If Vital is supposed to be in the banner shell, then WT:AWB needs to be informed, because currently it is set up that genfixes moves it out. It's because AWB doesn't know it's a WikiProject banner because it doesn't have {{WikiProject in the front, from what I can tell. (It might have slightly more complex rules, but I doubt it, from when I've run AWB on talk pages.) It will do that also with redirects of WP banners as well. Izno (talk) 17:02, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Deprecated parameters in Template:Infobox Indian constituency

Hello, since May, we've had some deprecated parameters in the Template:Infobox Indian constituency, and you can find pages with these deprecated parameters in the Category:Pages using Infobox Indian constituency with deprecated parameters. I'm considering running an AWB task to make these necessary replacements. I have corrected about 1000 pages, and now there are 1900 pages remaining for your bot to process. I think there's a higher risk of false positives if the bot handles it, as several parameters serve dual purposes. For example, the "year" parameter is used for both the latest election year and the establishment year in many pages. Hello friend, now, there are 1200 pages left to fix, and about 100 pages need some hands-on work, which I'll take care of individually. I'm planning to submit a BRFA for these 1100 pages, and I hope you don't mind, given that PrimeBOT also handles similar tasks. I believe this is a good starting point for my BRFA, especially with elections coming up in five states of India in the next 20 days. I couldnt help but notice you reverted your own nomination for deletion of oliver emanuel. I expect you will delete this post and I will be reporting you for abuse of admin priveleges for not allowing consennsus to be reached on a G12 copyright infringement nomination. Did you even read the nomination before deleting it, throwing allegations around and branding it nonsense. I believe a discussion should take place. An editor recently tried to make the first constructive edits since 2019 when the ENTIRE edit history was revdeleted for copyright infringement. Your response on the talk page is arrogant and dismissive. Do you believe copyright infringement is not an issue with the article or do you have an undisclosed connection with the author, in which case you should step back and let people who know what they are doing, do their job.

Common Dead

Hi Primefac,

Thanks for enacting the lock on this band page. It was probably about time.

Please note, the issue arose from a potentially misguided Move of the page. I was reading about the bands in that scene, discovered the article and dug into citation. I found that "Common Dead" is a single artist, and a dead alias, and the existing citation show this was a man named Andrew Larenson.

While it's been explained to me that WP:COMMONNAME should persist no less, it's strange that a fellow Wikipedian has reverted other edits not relevant to the Move dispute. These edits included restoration of dead links (archived) and a few articles I found professing the identity of this subject/person and they primarily operate under their natural name.

While it remains to be seen if valid sources are found to prove that "Common Dead" is no longer their common name (no pun intended), at the very least, we shouldn't be hasty to wipe out all constructive edits. I'm a bit confused at the rampant reversions undoing valid investigative work on the subject.

From my reading of the page's history, it sounds like Prax disagrees with you on the substance and reliability of the provided references, and that said references do not do enough to demonstrate that Laurenson the person is more notable than Laurenson-as-Common-Dead.

The next step is to discuss the matter on the article's talk page - is there enough to demonstrate that Laurenson should have an article about him, with Common Dead as a small part of it? Should Laurenson's bio be expanded while still keeping the page about the band? Should we have separate articles about the two? Discussing these questions and the references that support (or refute) the answers will determine how this gets "fixed". Primefac (talk) 20:25, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

I agree with the bulk of this. I again retort on the nature of edits that don't obstruct the conversation of person v.s. work as that name.

Much how notable artists have their intro sentence at top introduce their natural name first (and then followed by "known as" or "performing name"), that is the core of what I'm trying to highlight. We have demonstrated evidence, in current sources, to reveal it's a single person with alias. At the very least, the article's body and intro should reflect this. The current structure is misleading.

Alas, I can't edit without admin designation to restore even this small fact, and resign efforts to expand on the person's outside efforts from the context of Common Dead. Even leaving the Move page issue out of it, the text right now doesn't accurately reflect the subject. Metlurg (talk) 20:51, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

User Prohoshka and outing/doxxing

I'm taking the liberty of posting here since you were the admin to act on this issue previously. Not long ago you rollbacked and oversighted edits by Prohoshka, a relatively new account, at the TP of Ivan Katchanovski, a page I was involved in editing. I do not know what was on those edits, but I assume it's the same stuff Prohoshka just posted to his talk page, where he is repeating what I believe is a tweet outing four wikipedia users, among them @Bobfrombrockley, @My very best wishes and @Volunteer Marek. I believe this probably warrants nuking the edits plus an indef and removal of TP access for the user. Please help with family tree.

Hi Primefac. Could you please help me with this family tree (see below)? I need to save it in my sandbox so I could clean up a messed up family tree with the relevant info. I tried to follow the family tree help page but it is too complicated, and I've noticed you've been active on that page [1]. I'll make it simple for you:

- Man 1 had 3 sons = Son A, Son B, and Son C.

- Son A had a son called Son AA.

- Son AA married a woman called Wife 1, and from that marriage had a son called Son AAA

- Son AA married a woman called Wife 2, and from that marriage 2 sons and a daughter namely - Son AAA2, Son AAA 3, and Daughter 1 (respectively).

Could you please help me design a simple tree chart like this one showing the above? No elaborate colours needed. I just want it plain and simple. Many thanks.CultureCouture (talk) 01:44, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

All I did was fix a template call, I haven't really ever used the family tree templates. From what I can tell reading the template's documentation, you just need to lay it out like a table and then fill in the relevant information. You'd have six template calls, I think:

1. The man
2. The lines connecting the man to his sons
3. A, B, and C
4. The lines connecting A to AA
5. Wife 1, AA, and Wife 2 (probably in that order)
6. Lines connecting AA to his children
7. AAA, AAA2, AAA3, and Daughter 1

My suggestion would be to write out the tree on a piece of paper, and then put a box around each element of the tree (names, lines, etc). Then, fill in any blank spaces with boxes in order to figure out your white space. Then it's just a matter of plugging it all into the template.

I think the best thing for you to do is start working on a sandbox version, and if you're still stuck after a bit let me know and I'll see what I can do to help. Primefac (talk) 11:00, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

I made a request at articles for creation. A friend actually requested the article Grae Cleugh, and the article Playwrights' Studio Scotland created by colleagues. Unfortunately they were both deleted because I am the presumed author using socked accounts...

I should add I requested help from a "friend" because I am blocked from editing. I was blocked for trying to remove my name from a page, and was eventually succesful following a formal legal request and the source article was ammended, but my block, and sock history has not been deleted so I cannot edit or create articles. 81.147.111.139 (talk) 13:32, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

RfA questions

I was going to add this as a reply on the RfA talk page, but putting it here instead since I think the candidate wants to minimize conflict there.

Mainly just wanted to register disappointment that these questions (specifically the first one) weren't immediately nipped in the bud, and to the contrary that your comment appeared which in effect (though, I know, not by intention) legitimized/shielded them. Axe-grinding questions (suspiciously from someone who has never edited the article, but that's another story) are bad enough, and indeed usually accepted, but using RfA to probe someone's personal life to grind an axe is an IMO clear step too far. I'd prefer to see questions like that removed and, if the candidate really wants to answer, they can request they be added back. Otherwise, the more time goes by, the more they'll feel like they're compelled to answer. As such, whether because of feeling compelled or because they wanted to answer, it's too late now, and a precedent has been set that "what's your religion" is a valid question for a Wikipedia sysop. — Rhododendrites ^talk \\ 14:30, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Suggestions

Hello Primefac, as per Quarry:78718, there are 3886 pages tagged as orphans, but they have incoming links from other articles. Logically, they are not orphans. Some pages have many incoming links, while some have only one. According to Wikipedia:Orphan#Step 4: Remove orphan template, we can remove the orphan tag from articles that have at least one incoming link. Therefore, I'm considering submitting a BRFA for this task, but before this, I'd love to hear any suggestions or thoughts you might have. – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:08, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

The Criteria have a lot of exceptions an addenda which your query does not seem to address: dabs, hatnotes, and the like. I worry that you would have too many false positives to blindly run a bot over that list. Template:List of disc golf courses in the United States

I don't know why, but this template is having trouble dealing with List of states and territories of the United States by population and is showing a bunch of ParserFunction errors. This has occurred several times in the past; perhaps the template is just badly designed. No, it's because Wizmut removed every single <section> call in the table, meaning that it has no table information to call from. I'd ask them to restore everything they removed but I'd rather fix this sooner rather than later so I am just going to express my extreme displeasure with people blindly removing things they don't understand. Can you add in the protected article Surat Airport, metric converters to imperial units and imperial converters to metric units? In this article some units are only given in imperial and metric, and this causes confusion. Second account for privacy reasons

Dear sir, I have received a warning by a lawyer of the subject of several WP articles, to cease and desist from editing, or else I was threatened that law actions would be taken, which is minimum very costly. That warning was issued by the lawyer already in September last year. Since then, I changed my user name, but I realize, that through my edit history I would still be easily identifiable to them. Through some misfortune, some common "friend" has leaked my private information to them, name, email, address. The articles in question are Vishwananda and Bhakti Marga (organisation), as well as their German versions. In fact I am German, and started with the German versions. Since the the articles have been heavily edited, in an effort to remove critical information, or soften it out etc. The same effort is going on at the de:Vishwananda article (though not quite as successful). I thought, that one way to maybe circumvent this situation, is having a second account, while being visible to WP admins, is not so easily identifiable with me. I don't think I am actually offending German law, but the risk of a costly lawsuit is just too much for me. Also they employ the most expensive lawyers in Germany, specialized on social media. Deprecated GS templates

Hi Primefac, I was wondering a little bit about the closure [4]. I feel many editors made a strong argument for why the history should remain visible, and the only editor (courtesy ping to Pppery) opposing redirecting could have had their objection addressed via marking historical with a link to the new template, for instance. Would you be opposed to amending, or perhaps reopening? I'm not going to make a huge fuss about this, but GS/DS policy is arcane enough without us disappearing some of the historical documentation. I count an even split between those who are wanting deletion vs those who think it is better to redirect (ignoring the two people who expressed no preference for either). It was actually pppery's argument that I found most compelling. The workaround your propose doesn't work, though - you can't make a page a redirect and make it show as a historical template, and everyone is pretty much in agreement that the templates should either be redirected or deleted so leaving the templates be/marking them historical is not really an option. On reflection perhaps it's best to drop the matter. The intent of my comment (and, as I read it, that of Wugapodes and Trialpears) was to preserve documentation in some way. Redirecting would do so, but so would marking the templates as historical. First, a copyright violation is a copyright violation. We do not allow CVs anywhere on Wikipedia. Full stop.

Second, we are required to remove the copyright violation from all versions of the page, because every edit to Wikipedia is supposed to be published under a Creative Commons license and allowed to be reused. Template:Family name hatnote

Hi @Primefac, can I ask you to make an addition at Template:Family name hatnote? It would be very helpful to have a "Medieval" entry. This would be for names like "Konrad von Würzburg". I would be looking for a text that reads something like this:

In this medieval name, the personal name is Konrad, and von Würzburg is an appellation or descriptor. There is no family name. This person should be listed alphabetically under Konrad.

I wouldn't want to make the hatnote too long, but what we are really needing to get at is that after the first reference, he should be referred to for short as "Konrad", never as "Würzburg", which is the town he was born in. I draw your attention to this page Wikipedia:Misuse of the sandbox, specifically the first topic unacceptable use of the sandbox, removal of header, declined draft.

It is presumed to be an attack page G10 as no one in their right mind would open an account make one edit to add their name to the sandbox, and never edit again.

I have added a speedy delete template, technical, G6. could you please add the correct template if I made a mistake, and delete. Please make sure the log and undelete information is recorded properly.

I have reported this incident to legal for abuse of admin priveleges to preserve a page that if I created would get deleted instantly (not you). Hacking could of course be an issue but I thought that problem had been solved long before i became involved, circa 2010.

There is so much wrong with your post that I feel compelled to reply, even though I am sure at this point you are either grasping at straws or trolling; if it is the latter case... congratulations, you win?

• The information page you reference refers to Wikipedia:Sandbox, not "any user sandbox" (the latter of which I note is exempted from most of those "rules").
• Writing someone's name in a sandbox is usually an indication that they plan on writing about that person.
• You did make a mistake by nominating the page for deletion, a fact which six admins agreed on.
• Legal is not the venue to report abuse of administrative privileges; that is the Arbitration Committee (though you've already spammed all of us already to no effect).

I really hope you get over this delusional fantasy that you are going to get your name fully expunged from every possible location on Wikipedia, because it is just not going to happen. The sooner you come to that realisation, the better we all will be. I am done attempting to find explanations for why you are wrong in some hope that you will actually see that it is true. I'm unhappy with your oversight action related to #2024011910001738. I really don't think it was appropriate for you just so delete the page and leave it there considering the contents of the page. I was in a meeting so I didn't have time to write what I was asking for, but the main reason I contacted you (OS) was because I thought these situations would be common to you and you'd be able to help or know where to defer them further (T&S, global helpline numbers?) It was absolutely appropriate for me to delete the page under WP:OSPOL #1; there was private and personal information that should not be shared on Wikipedia. These situations are common to me, and I do know how to deal with them. BRFA question

Hello Primefac,

Back in May of 2023 you had approved my bot's second task. Shortly thereafter, my motivation for editing had dropped, which is why I am only starting on this task now.

Anyway, backstory over! In that approval, you commented "There is no prejudice against converting this to an as-needed bot task if it is found to be useful." I am in fact interested in making that task an as-needed task, as I am still working through many pages and I'm sure there are many more I haven't found yet. What do I need to do to make this change happen? Do I need to create another BRFA or simply request for the bot flag to be made permanent?

I created Draft:Klara And The Sun (film) in May 2023. Never seemed to notice the capitalized A in and so I missed the fact there was a deleted version at the time. So this month, @KingArti: requested that Draft:Klara and the Sun (film) be undeleted, resulting in two drafts on the same topic. CKGM-AM

The naming convention for broadcast stations hd been to go with what the callsign assigned to it by the regulator. As far as I know, Canada (like the United States) does not issue -AM suffixes, so it should go by the base callsign CKGM. Mexico’s regulator seems to add -AM suffixes. If Industry Canada doesn’t issue it, none should have them. All F.M. stations in Canada *do* have the -FM suffix, though. Does not need to be relisted

Hi, Primefac - as I explained in the related discussion, that topicon is one I designed and wbm1058 made into a topicon at my request. There are many VRT designs an agent can use on their user pages, but my design is the only topicon. As I explained, OTRS no longer exists. Regardless, this is not within Wikipedia's jurisdiction unless I am violating a user page restriction, and I do not believe that is the case. Revert for Sourcing for Pages

This is in realtion to reverts done to the [Greene County, Virginia] page. Edits were reverted for being "unsourced". In the future, it would be more helpful the community to instead add in request for citation tags. This is particularly true when reverting to content that was also not sourced by a tagged reference. Regarding an edit to Paper Mario

Hey Primefac, this isn't a big deal whatsoever since this edit was almost two years ago now, but I just don't like knowing that it's there; many people on Twitter saw this revision and posted about it when it was at TFA, and this is one of my favorite works on the site. I was wondering if it was justifiable to have an old revision or two deleted? I may be more sensitive than others but I feel it passes RD2 of WP:CRD.

This is the revision in question, and you don't need to scroll down to know what they did. The revision two prior to this one also has a gross copy-paste in its edit summary, although I'm not sure if it's possible to redact that. Portal German Empire

I was pointed to you as someone who might be able to resolve this following your comment on Explicits talk page re Portal World War II. Currently there are a lot of entries in Category:Portal templates with redlinked portals for German Colonial countries following the deletion of Portal German empire. These are through templates so I am unable to resolve them. I think a link to German Empire needs to be removed from the templates(s) or changed to Portal Germany. Bible Gateway template

Hi. I see that your bot has replaced the old Bible Gateway access template, bibleref2, with the Oremus one (bibleverse), which is till working, but MUCH poorer. This happened after B.Gtw. discontinued acces via Wiki template, so I thought: maybe you know what happened? And, more importantly: can that be reversed? They have so many different translations to choose from, there was a trick how to avoid repeating the name of the biblical book but still link to the verse number, and, and, and. Lightyears better.

If it was a Wiki decision, how can we try to reverse it? If it was BG's, maybe we can still negotiate something?

There was a TFD about the template family that resulted in everything being merged to {{bibleverse}}. All of the options that were previously available in the various templates, including avoiding the book name and linking to Bible Gateway, are still available and described in the Examples and List of versions. I would like an explanation for why you deleted a large amount of material from the draft page noted above. The log mentioned copyright issues. What are the copyright issues? I know of none. This is, after all, merely a draft article, not a public piece. What is even worse, I can't seem to even recover or examine what you deleted. The copyright issue is that copying directly from an external source to Wikipedia is a copyright violation, especially when the page in question is marked as Copyright © 2024 Warren C. Trenchard. You were given the heads up, and have engaged in multiple discussions about the matter, so this really should not come as a surprise.
