How do I put the 'complete rewrite' tag on an article?

Hi Porterjoh! You can take a look through this table to find the template that best fits the article in question and then add its tag to the beginning of an article. I've added your talk page to my watchlist, so if you have any more questions, feel free to ask them. —bbatsell ¿? 19:40, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
You can also use the {{Cleanup-rewrite}} template, which I couldn't find in that list. —bbatsell ¿? 19:42, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your help :) Porterjoh 19:43, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I gather you'd like the events of the last few days to disapear, and I have now blanked part of this page for you, as most people will would revert you when blanking. I am sure you learned from the experience and will be a valued contributor from now on. Any questions - don't hesitate to ask. I will continue to have your page watchlisted so I should notice when even when you write here. Agathoclea 00:28, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm confused by your contribution here. Your explanation for "merge" reads like an explanation for "keep". --Dweller 17:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. People rarely change their minds at AfD (in my experience) so thanks for bucking the trend. Appreciated. I took the liberty of "striking" your first contribution. --Dweller 17:40, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Calm down. I was still adding stuff to the Gary Green page when you came along in less than two minutes and tried to speedy delete it. Oddibe 19:07, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Done. When you want to "go live" with the nomination you need to go to today's afd page and type {{subst:afd3|pg=James Light}}.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 00:01, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: James Light

It looks like this was done by a single-purpose account. Warn politely and return it to a redirect. If there are ongoing issues past that, we can look at the article history and have the editor in question checkusered and likely blocked. --Auto (talk / contribs) 15:03, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

What wikipedia is about

I find it incredibly amusing that an editor whose edits in a whole year can be counted on one page has an urge to turn up and start deleting things and telling other editors how to go about things. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:17, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Building lists is the best way to generate new content on wikipedia and identify what is missing and how to build a better encyclopedia for everybody. Work on what is missing and to create new articles from it which will greatly improve wikipedia in all fields in the long term. Once the articles have been started then there will be no need to have lists as they will be housed in categories ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:21, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Basically I see lists as a construction tool. Some lists can be useful if they indeed provide meaningful encyclopedic content e.g with tables that provide info but most I agree are better done in categories. However given the sheer amount missing, building lists to build encyclopedic content on is the best thing we can do and provide a framework to enchance coverage on. There was some discussion before about creating the lists in the project space, but I and several other editors find it easier to work off straight lists. No disrespect to you as an editor, but there are a lot of editors here who do a great deal to improve this site and know exactly how to build this, evne if it doesn't always seem like it is initially that beneficial. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Hi, Porterjoh. I'm afraid I agree with Blofeld of SPECTRE. Lists such as this are commonly accepted and encouraged on Wikipedia. Speedy deletion should only be for articles that clearly don't belong here; as at least two experienced users believe the article should be kept, an AfD would be more appropriate if you have strong views on this. Epbr123 (talk) 12:33, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

The reason I declined the speedy was because it wasn't a candidate for speedy deletion -particularly when there was also a Slovene wikipedia link to the equivalent. Whenever I see somebody continously reverting it and adding a speedy delete tag, it appears to be there isn't good faith involved; it can get particularly frustrating to me that my course of editing, which ALWAYS is intended to serve some purpose to improve wikipedia in the long term is being halted. No hard feelings, but in future perhaps you could ask the editor of the article you place a speedy tag on it why they think it constitutes an encyclopedia article. Thankyou ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:41, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

If you have any doubts it is precisely such lists that have allowed articles like Jože Javoršek to be created. I have been working together with some of the SLovenes on here to try to build content in missing areas and get them to translate stuff. Now if we can get several hundred evne thousand articles like this up and running, then I'm sure you;kll agree that wikipedia will become a much greater and resourceful site. Saludos ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:54, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

File:Angry.gif

Thanks for the cookies, LOL no worries I can see you are a decent person after all. Apologies if I misjudged you initially just really don't like being disrupted. No let me get on with it!! , just kidding. Adios ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:02, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know -today seems to be bringing on a lot of distractions and potential deletions which I very rarely encounter-I still think the best thing is to move the pages to e.g Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/Slovenia/Missing articles/Musicians etc as project work lists but there we go ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:53, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

The problem is if I aim to add most of the ones on Slovene wiki and largely due to my lack of understanding of the SLovene language any new stubs are likely to cause equal concerns that they are non notable because they are stubs. They are likely to initially be one liners, and would likely be to generate similar unwanted attention to them as inadequate ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:01, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Request for Rollback

Hi. I've gone ahead and granted you rollback. Please remember to only use it for clear cut vandalism or unconstructive edits. You can find more information at WP:RBK or feel free to ask me. Pedro :  Chat  10:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

this use of rollback is clearly not vandalism. You've "rolled back" to a version of the article that contained numerous spelling and grammatical errors. Do not use rollback to remove good faith edits. Use talk pages to discuss changes to articles, but do not use rollback that way. I strongly recommend you using your rollback feature properly, or not at all, until you are more familiar with WP:ROLLBACK and since this is your first day with it, I won't be removing it for one mistake. Please ask questions if you have them, thanks. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:26, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
And now that I've seen that you've blanked the complaint from the other editor, as well as Pedro's message, and now that I've found several other mistakes and misuses with rollback, it is removed from your user rights. Easy come, easy go. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
The following diffs, plus the Jackie Collins diff above, are not explicit vandalism, therefore rollback should not have been used:

[1], [2] , [3] (#3 was okay, but left some vandalism there that I had to remove), [4] , [5] ,[6] , [7]. That's just in the last few hours. Need I go on? Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

I saw your apology to the other editor at Jackie Collins. Very nice indeed. Please see my talkpage and make a case for having rollback returned to your user rights if you wish. I'm very convincible. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:48, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
No hard feelings porterjoh about the rollback. Sorry to hear you lost those right. Katana Geldar 22:47, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

I am still here 'ey Power and Control, thank you for asking

Porterjoh, I am still here, there have been ongoing developments: Duluth received its fourth adverse from DOJ, more details are being un-earthed about the Framingham Eight and published, Minnesota redacted its previous call to "end patriarchy and establish egalitarian..." The whole set of statistics, used diatribically and without cites or peer review to establish the whole concept of Power and Control (modern usage in socio-political context) has recently been refuted by analysis of current data and published. Rather than preparing a journal, with periodic updates, I am assimilating the data (published) will submit to peer review (outside of Wiki)(and then at Wiki) for the entry and re-submit. Welcome

I am really glad that you can join. I am looking forward to working with you on improving and saving articles.

Hi, Porterjoh, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 23:47, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

New page patrol – Survey Invitation

Hello Porterjoh! The WMF is currently developing new tools to make new page patrolling much easier. Whether you  have patrolled many pages or only a few, we now need to  know about your experience. The survey takes only 6 minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist us in analyzing the results of the survey; the WMF will not use the information to identify you.

  • If this invitation  also appears on other accounts you  may  have, please complete the  survey  once only.
  • If this has been sent to you in error and you have never patrolled new pages, please ignore it.

Please click HERE to take part.
Many thanks in advance for providing this essential feedback.

You are receiving this invitation because you  have patrolled new pages. For more information, please see NPP Survey. Global message delivery 12:49, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Josh Griffith

sorry for disrupting your writing i hope you forgive me. Porterjoh, I'm sorry if I gave you extra work to do. Mr. Griffith ducked out and kept working while thousands of writers were on picket lines, forgoing their income on principle. He is not deserving of respect or civility. However, I do understand that you have standards to uphold and again, I'm sorry if I made more work for you. Jim Houghton 76.174.95.65 (talk) 01:35, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

David Belle edit

The phrase "well known" is not accurate in this sense, and there is significant and active debate as to David's role in the creation of the movement. In fact, claiming that he is "well known as the founder" is considerably less neutral than presenting both sides (i.e., "claimed by some"). While these pages obviously may not be bastions of neutrality, the opposing side's arguments can be visible here:

http://takeflightsucks.com/

http://www.flipyeahparkour.com/2012/04/goodbye-parkour-com-hello-parkour-com/

I have re-reverted the page and will stand by the edit. If you have an issue with the phrasing, I can certainly modify it, but the core content of my edit is accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.166.218.55 (talk) 08:15, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Complaining

If you actually bothered to look at the content I removed, you would have realised that it was repeated twice in the same section. 120.149.0.172 (talk) 00:56, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

I dont think BMTH is deathcore at all. They sound llike Post-rock, avnt-garde experimental metalcore to me. real deathcore is Job for a cowboy, sepultura, suicicide silence, etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.249.51.219 (talk) 16:10, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Speedy nomination

Hi. Not sure if you have this page on your watchlist, but I wanted to let you know that I revoked your speedy deletion nomination of Do Good Real Estate. I think 'became the first company in Wilmington to be labeled a Benefit Corporation' is sufficient to bypass the A7 criterion. Of course, notability is largely irrelevant in that assessment, so I have no prejudice if you want to take it to PROD or AfD. I find from a NPP perspective that it's best to let these articles exist if there is any chance of inclusion. Have a good one. NTox · talk 20:44, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: G.H. Hopkins Elementary School

Hello Porterjoh, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of G.H. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. — Mr. Stradivarius (have a chat) 22:18, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: X Factor Indonesia (season 1)

Hello Porterjoh, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of X Factor Indonesia (season 1), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: CSD A7 doesn't apply to TV shows. Re:SSG-69 article

Sure, no problem. I was posting a source for some of the material on that article (regarding Russia's use of the SSG), then realized the link I discovered was for the much more modern SSG-4 and was not an official source - merely a blogger invited on a press tour in the Russian army. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexkvaskov (talkcontribs) 00:13, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

about nationalities and regions of Spain

Hello, I would like you to respect the editions that are not spam or vandalism, cos I edited that page and now I see that a robot of yours (or something) has automatically reverted my edition. I don't sign with a english user cos I am catalan user and don't have an account in the english wikipedia, but I'm a serious person. And about the edition itself, I would tell you that the sentence "In practical terms, the majority of the population, including nationalists, are largely satisfied with the current status quo even if there are still aspirations for further recognition of their distinctiveness or for the expansion of their self-government" is totally untrue, and if you know something about catalans and basques (and maybe galicians) you will now that is untrue, cos the main feeling in Catalonia is that we are not very confortable (politically) being part of Spain. That being said, it doesn't means that we all want the independence, but what "the majority of the population" want for sure is a new political relation with the spanish government and the rest of regions, I have heard that even within the spanish origine population in Catalonia, so: how can you say that we are satisfied with the current status quo?? Don't you pretend that those 2 sources know better than us what do we want, do you?? I hope you respect the editions, or at least you edit the original sentence in a way that explains a little better the real situation (maybe my english is not good enough), cos otherwise everybody will think that we are happy with the way things are now, and we have so many trouble making us understand in front of the rest of the world. Thank you for your comprension. 188.79.225.67 (talk) 23:55, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Porterjoh. I'm dropping you a note because you used to (or still do!) patrol new pages. This is just to let you know that we've deployed and developed Page Curation, which augments and supersedes Special:NewPages - there are a lot of interesting new features :). There's some help documentation here if you want to familiarise yourself with the system and start using it. If you find any bugs or have requests for new features, let us know here. Thanks! ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

Hi Porterjoh,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

My edit was not vandalism. Please see the entry which I removed. It is a referral to a non-existent page. It should be removed. 2604:2000:EFC0:12:7922:1B66:98F2:E6E1 (talk) 14:17, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
