Replaceable fair use File:Randy_Official_Photo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Randy_Official_Photo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 05:10, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Randy Altschuler edit

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

A tag has been placed on Randy Altschuler requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Playsmarts (talk) 15:06, 26 July 2010 (UTC) ==Reply

I did not create the page above, but I have edited it. The topic of the page is a businessman and congressional candidate.

About Randy Altschuler edit

Hi, Playsmarts, and thanks for your message,
Important first thing to say: I'm simply a Wikipedia editor, the same as you. Anything I write is just my opinion, and subject to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. You asked, "Please help me improve the article by showing me for what parts would secondary sources be appropriate." Yep, I'd be more than pleased - and the short answer is: all of the article. If it's OK with you, could we start out with why the current references aren't quite up to speed?

Hi Shirt58-
Thanks for helping me out. Do you have specific bits of information that you would like to see a secondary source? I know that the candidate's biography page is cited, but that is a legitimate sources (namely, because it is relied on by reporters and voters alike in making an informed decision). I do cite some external sources, such as Politico, the New York Times, corporate websites, and the like. I also have cited to campaign press releases, but that is what reporters rely on when writing a story, so I do not see much of an issue with those.
The real debate is citing blogs by reporters for reputable publicans, such as Newsday, the New York Daily News, and Politico. While they are blogs, they are blogs under the auspices of major, reputable publications and follow the same editorial guidelines thereof. They are cited by other newspapers, radio reporters, television news, and the like. They are most certainly not spam-y blogs written by some dude in his mother's basement.
If you have a particular bit of information that you would like to see have a secondary source, let me know and I will find one. Thanks again for assisting me on this project!

File copyright problem with File:Randy Official Campaign Photo.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Randy Official Campaign Photo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 21:46, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
