Hi Phoebe, my problem is that long time ago I found in gravitation and cosmology things that gravity physicists don't know (being in my opinion poor scientists as it happens in gravitation a lot (see Richard Feynman's rant aginst gravity physicists from his book What Do You Care What Other People Think, page 91). Since they don't know them they don't allow to publish them; for over 25 years by now despit the things were confirmed by observations done by Supernova Cosmology Project already in 1998.

The thing is basically that Einstein was right about the universe despite he didn't know it well enough to be able to publish an article about it (his knowledge remained only intuitive). So technically it is not publishable in wikipedia. Einstein's knowledge (that the universe is in reality stationary, not expanding and the "Einstein's biggest bluder" as he called it, his "cosmological constant", does not exist, and so Einstein is not guilty of any blunder, just a legitimate way of explaining physics available to him with his limited knowledge of that time) can't be passed legally to physic students and so the opponents of Einstein as John Archibald Wheeler were trying to use it to diminish Einstein's achievement as the discoverer of true theory of gravitation. They were, and still are, trying to replace it with creationism (creation of energy from nothing) instead, according to their beliefs to which they are entitled but not as scientists since in my opinion the first duty of scientist is to science and his religion should come second.

Do you happen to know how this knowledge about Einstein could be passed in wikipedia legally to physics studentsts? I consider belief in creationism among physics students a negative phenomenon as well as not publishing the truth about cosmology despite it has a minor influence on human affairs. Edmonton Journal Newspaper Article July 1996

Hi there Phoebe! I am looking for an electronic copy of an Edmonton Journal Article from July 23, 1996. It is called "Kid writers mix it with 'names'" (or at least it starts with that). The Wikipedia Game

A discussion about improving Wikipedia's help documentation inspired an idea--tutorials would be best if they were interactive and immersive. The thought of a learning-teaching game came up, one based on a real interface with realistic 'missions'. Would you be interested in providing some feedback or helping work on it, or know some editors who might? How do we educate people that you can't just credit "Wikipedia"?

I apparently have a hot button, or so I'm told. It drives me absolutely crazy when people take text from Wikipedia and don't credit it properly. I was just reading a book, "Alarm Management for Process Control: A Best-Practice Guide for Design, Implementation, and Use of Industrial Alarm Systems" by Douglas H. Rothenberg and he quotes the following text from the handbook article that you wrote:

"Handbooks may deal with any topic, and are generally compendiums of information in a particular field or about a particular technique. They are designed to be easily consulted and provide quick answers in a certain area."

Why even bother crediting it to Wikipedia if you can't be bothered to credit it properly... /sigh

Please help me avoid high blood pressure and teach me how to deal with this sort of thing in a more constructive manner. Thanks! Psu256 (talk) 20:48, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

:) Well, I guess I should be flattered about the reuse! Referring people to the "cite this page" link in the toolbox is one thing... many folks don't even know about it. facilitator for class?

Hi Phoebe,

We met briefly at ALA in New Orleans - I'm the librarian from the Maritime Academy in Vallejo.

This Spring 2012, I will be structuring my 2-unit Info Lit class around Wikipedia, as will my colleague who teaches the other section. I'm getting up to speed on Wikipedia culture, style, etc., and am making my way through the helpful information on your User page. Thank you for that.

I'm writing to ask if you would be able to be a facilitator for us this Spring. There will be a total of about 50-55 students in 2 or 3 sections. The class is called Information Fluency in the Digital Age and almost all students in the class will be freshman Marine Engineering Technology majors.

My tentative plan is to spend the first half of the semester having students edit current Wikipedia articles that need citations or better citations, teaching the research skills I usually teach in LIB100. After the midterm, I plan to have each student identify, research, and write a complete Wikipedia article, primarily in areas related to Marine Propulsion, Maritime History, or possibly a non-maritime mechanical engineering topic of their choice.

I've got lots of ideas for how to do this and I don't want to bug you unless we run into a problem. Of course, I am happy to take advice at any time :)

For now, are you available to be our official facilitator?
