Self-promotion edit

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. See the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. -- Rhobite 00:09, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

Peter,
Maybe I was a little hasty to remove your site's link from the article. The affiliate marketing article gets spammed pretty much every day, so when I see a new user adding a link to their own site, my gut reaction is to remove it. Please note that Wikipedia:External links strongly discourages people from adding links to their own site, even if they feel these links are useful to readers. Wikipedia prohibits self-promotion. That said, I took another look at your site and it does seem like it could be useful to readers (although affiliate marketing still seems like a get rich quick scam to me). I won't remove the link if you add it again. Rhobite 19:44, July 26, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Peter, Rhobite, Monkeyman. I got a great Idea to solve this dispute and more than that. How are recommendations made in Wikipedia to recommend a change to the Wiki Engine? I am a Newbie who tries to help but don't know how everything works here yet (I am learning though). I have an Idea that will help significantly to reduce the amount of real link spam that gets added to Wikipedia every day. See here: Talk:Affiliate_marketing#External_Links_Peace_Offer If it will be done and publicized, the Value of External Links for SEO purposes will be almost reduced to nothing. And if it’s of no value for the spammer, he won't do it anymore.

Question on the side: What is the best and easiest way to get multiple editors that worked on an article a message that is more than the one line edit summary? Post in each of the Editors discussion page? Thanks. I am looking forward to your comments and opinions. --Roy-SAC 08:34, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Everything gets cluttered across Wikipedia again (my bad). I started to consolidate my Ideas and recommendation on my discussion page User_talk:Cumbrowski#Ideas_for_Improving_Wikipedia. What is the right way to go about this? Where is the best place to submit those ideas that a decision can be made if it’s a good idea which will become a project or not? --Roy-SAC 09:25, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know where to submit this idea, but I like it. I'm new to this too and have been trying to help with spam cleanup and improving the affiliate marketing article from the beginning. The removal of all the external links in the article has left me somewhat unmotivated but I guess I will still contribute until this gets sorted out. Peterkoning 16:55, 28 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
