Hi there,

You may want to read WP:CORP for guidelines on demonstrating the notability of a company. Essentially, the best thing you can do is to show that it has been the subject of many independent publications. The articles you have written only discuss the history of the company, its products, its ownership etc... you still need to show why the company is notable however. Papa November (talk) 08:39, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, take a look at the featured article on BAE Systems. Its lead section is a good example of how you might want to start your articles. Phrases helping to show the notability of the company include:
  • worldwide interests
  • BAE is the world's third largest defence contractor and the largest in Europe.
  • £7.7 billion merger (merged companies were all notable)
  • first commercial company devoted to the development and use of radio
  • world's first aircraft companies
  • has been the subject of criticism
Sources are provided for all the above, making it pretty clear that the company is important, and discussed widely by independent sources. Papa November (talk) 08:52, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay. I'll expand the entry based on your advice. Obviously it will still be smaller than BAE. I took Spotfire as an example that i was working from. I'm trying to keep away from providing a sales pitch for their products. But will instead focus on how they are mentioned in the BI related media. I've started to expand the section, focussing on notable features of their technology, and how they are referenced. Peter.a.simpson (talk) 08:28, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You've done a lot to improve the article, but it needs a slight shift in focus... you've shown that the field of business is notable, but what makes this specific company notable? Looking at their website, there are a couple of nice things you could mention in the lead section (and find independent references where appropriate)
  • They are a large multinational company with offices in New York, London and Stockholm (can you find the total number of employees?)
  • They have won several prestigious awards

Hi again. I've added more detail to the company, and have hopefully now demonstrated it's notability. Unfortunatetely, it's now been marked for deletion by 'Raven in Orbit'. I want to follow the same style with the other main VBI companies (Spotfire, QlikTech), but want to ensure that Panopticon is correct first, and of course not deleted. I think you've pretty much done enough to demonstrate notability. It's quite a hard task for companies, because Wikipedia is very susceptible to the appearance of "articles" advertising small, unimportant businesses, so well done with your perseverance! If you're also happy that the article demonstrates the notability of the company, you can do the following:
  1. Remove the {{dated prod}} and {{notability}} templates from the top of the article... it's fine to do this for {{prod}} deletions if you address the concerns, but don't do it for any other type of deletion request!
  2. Leave a message on the talk page explaining how you've demonstrated notability.
Also, you should read the relevant sections of the manual of style to make sure that the article is presented in the correct style. Papa November (talk) 11:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
