Re:Barnstar

Thank you very much for the barnstar! I was involved in a situation somewhat like hers, with my first RfA, and greatly appreciated moral support, so I figure I might as well reciprocate. Thanks very much! Neranei (talk) 13:57, 24 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

RfA

Hi pedro, I just wanted to clarify here (rather than on the RfA as I dont want to come across as badgering you) why I left a note for one or two of the oppose voters. I just want to say first I'm not asking you to reconsider or anything, merely replying here as I would hate for there to be a misunderstanding of my comments on the RfA, or for you to think I was badgering a user.

I was certainly not intending to badger users into changing votes but rather to genuinely ask them to clarify, for example one user (and another 'per them') wrote: "lack of mainspace editing experience. About half of the 850 mainspace edits are AWB sweeps and many other of the edits are repetitive pattern edits.", and I agree with you, its totally fair enough, if thats what someone thinks they are more than welcome to say it. But I was asking the user to genuinely clarify whether they thought my contributions were too little or whether they felt my edit count was too little. Infact my wording was: "Do you feel these contribs are insufficient, or is it that my edit count is insufficient?". The reason behind asking this is that my contributions I can increase, I can come back in 3 months time for example with lets say 10 more diagrams. What I can't do though is come back in 3 months time with thousands more edits as my number of edits isn't going to go up by more than say 70 mainspace edits in that time, but for me 70 mainspace edits could be equal to say 10-20 custom drawn diagrams, each one taking a number hours.

I hope this better explains why I wrote those comments. If you have any suggestions on this I'd really love to hear them, as I'm unsure what to do, because it appears as though the RfA will fail largely due to a low edit count, yet I cannot do anything about that without changing the way I'm editing, and I don't want to be forced into editing chunks of text instead of what I'm good at simply to please my edit count for a second RfA, it seems like text book editicountitis if I do that. Thanks for your help, I appreciate you taking the time to explain your oppose. ta. WikipedianProlific(Talk) 19:16, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

heh, yeah, don't distract me when I'm focusing on stuff. I've been messed up so bad. Somewhat like this --lucid 08:01, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am just shocked to see how much I am being opposed, especially strong oppose. Lucid must like to oppose RfAs, since when I once opposed one user, I saw that Lucid's oppose was there. This is making me think that I will never be an admin. If it fails, do I have to wait 4 months? NHRHS2010 Talk 09:46, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I got your message. I feel hurt by Lucid because he did strong oppose on me, and said that my English is poor. Looks like Ludid doesn't even want me to be an admin. I live in the USA, and I knew English since I was very little. Is my English good? NHRHS2010 Talk 09:58, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just had to say that because I've seen Lucid around RfAs. I remember I opposed someone's RfA once and I saw that Lucid was the strongest opposer. I am seeing that almost all good editors, like DerHexer, have successful RfAs, while I get strong opposes. NHRHS2010 Talk 10:14, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I closed my RfA on purpose because I knew I was going to fail anyways. I am feeling that I am alone since when my friend User:Hdt83 or I get nominated at RfA, we get opposed, and many legimtimate editors succeed, such as DerHexer, Acalamari, Trusilver, etc. NHRHS2010 Talk 15:54, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reply to RfA comment

Hi Pedro,

First, sorry for the awkward position I've put you in (again!), and thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt.

Second, I won't clutter the RfA up anymore with replies to replies to replies, so I'll just clarify here. I didn't mean I was looking for you or Walton to suggest I withdraw and wait a few months; what I meant was, if someone opposed and said they thought I should wait a few months, I'd take that as reasonable constructive criticism. In spite of how it's going now, I see no harm in letting my RfA go on; it's not over until the last out of the ninth inning (sorry, don't know the corresponding cricket terminology).

I really do look forward to encountering you sometime on Wikipedia in happier circumstances. If this RfA fails, maybe I'll ask you to block a vandal for me or something. --barneca (talk) 13:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Monte Palace

Thanks for your note. I've removed the vandalism warning as you requested, and I concur with your reasoning 100%; newbies deserve not to be bitten, even gently. I'm glad that you concur that I did the right thing, but I could have been more helpful or at least more thorough in explaining things to this new user, and I have to bear some responsibility here too. I think it is more politic for me to leave things as they stand, without leaving the user an apology (on the basis that a bite will heal faster if nothing reminds you of it), but if you think an apology is necessary -- with an offer of help in the future -- I will make it. For this and a couple of other reasons, I'm going to be much, much more careful about new page patrol and ancillary duties in the future; I'm learning the underlying meaning of not biting the newbies... even though I'm not far from one myself. Thanks for your careful explanation and I look forward to working with you in the future. If there's something further you think is appropriate, just let me know. Accounting4Taste 13:47, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just to say, thank you very much for the barnstar; I can't believe how foolishly pleased I am to have received it. If there's something I can do to be of assistance in the future, it will be my pleasure. Accounting4Taste 21:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Obviously, it is unlikely that you will know how to use the tools at first and mistakes are bound to happen, so if you would like to practice using them, with step by step guides to follow, in an environement that you can do no harm in, then why not pop down to the new admin school where we have pages on blocking, deleting and restoring pages, protecting and unprotecting pages and viewing deleted pages. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:19, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
