I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I asked my son in law to help me with one of my edits, and when he didn't get around to it for I while I figured it out myself. But then he did try, and apparently we duplicated. I was a documentary filmmaker and did interviews with Palestinian and Israeli notables between the years of 1989 and 1996. I have compiled some of these into my own YouTube channel. I noticed that other people had added similar interviews, so I have added some of mine, to those people who have Wikipedia pages. It seems to me that these add useful historical information that would be of interest to people searching for these individuals, many of whom are long dead. Here, they speak in their own words, about their work, which is reflected in the texts of their Wiki page anyway. They are speaking across the span of many years, at the time and place they were embedded in the major work that defined their lives. How is this material in any way inappropriate to the purposes of Wikipedia? It seems to me that it adds an irreplaceable resource to the encyclopedia.

None of my work has ever been for profit, nor is my YouTube page a source of any income at all.

Someone has been going along after me and deleting my links. I assume it is someone who opposes the viewpoints expressed by the interview subjects.

I would appreciate a response. Thanks in advance

Hi Tom.

I can assure you that I assume it is someone who opposes the viewpoints expressed by the interview subjects. is not true. I am a neutral editor who is acting in my capacity as an administrator.

You unfortunately have a fundamental misunderstanding of how Wikipedia and external links work and their purpose. They are not meant to be a collection, and it's possible there are other interviews which should be removed if they don't meet the requiremets. In addition to a prohibition of new editors editing in areas related to Israel and Palestine (below), you have a conflict of interest since you're promoting your content. While WP:PAID addresses monetary gains, you can (and do) have a Conflict of Interest because it drives traffic to your YT channel. If you continue to add links with which you're connected, you will be blocked. Star Mississippi 19:39, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for your clarification. I was not aware of the restrictions you mentioned, I was just following what I saw that others had done. I understand your point about a conflict of interest in steering views to my page. Please understand that this page is created at my own expense and is intended as educational, making freely available my personal historical archives, on a subject of wide interest.

I will not post these in the future.

Thank you. I definitely think you're editing in good faith, which is why I didn't block your son in law's account as a problematic use when you disclosed why he was adding your videos.

If a secondary source takes note of your videos, they could work as a source. But until that happens, they should stay out. If you do have an interest in editing areas related to Israel and Palestine once your account is eligible, it's possible that independent sourcing you drew on to create your documentaries could be worth adding to the article as sources if they add information that isn't present. Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

• adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
• comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
• follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
• comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
• refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations.
