Hey, i noticed you removed Colin McNeill from the reference of the Bloodquest and as it is a comic series i thought it would have been appropriate to include the illustrator? i could be wrong? thanks for the editations on the leonatos aritcle by the way :D its nice to see someone caring about him Lowris 21:22, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Dab page style

Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages)#Piping (the issue was debated a few months ago, but I see the general principle - with only a few exceptions, not including subtitle linking - is still "avoid pipes")

The only alternative I see would be to make a single link for fictional Emperors on the Emperor dab page, and let users find out for themselves that there is a separate subsection for "Kaisers" on List of fictional rulers (but I'd think that also a solution with low user-friendliness)

Note that on the Emperor dab page there were already links showing as Emperor and Kaiser - readers of the encyclopedia are even less expected to know in advance that not every link is the same as it shows. --Francis Schonken 16:18, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Oops sorry, on second reading the MoS page I mentioned above says "Use piping if you're linking to an anchor point on the target page"; but in that case I'd make something like this

The solution you propose could be considered both overlinking in general (4 links to the same page in two lines!), as contrary to the idea of having only links that point directly to where you want to disambiguate. I've tried to fix up all the edits done to List of Space Marine Chapters over the past few hours... have a look, I may have missed some. 40k articles for deletion

I'm considering nominating the following for deletion

• Deep strike - Wikipedia is not a games guide or subsitiute for the 40k rulebook
• Nerve glove - Minor piece of tech used exclusively by the Imperial Fists (one thousand men in a galaxy of untold billions). I nominated it once, but it resulted in a no consensus keep

The Emperor and his real identity

You edited out my comment on the widely maintained belief(/joke/assumption) common to almost everyone at the Games Workshop Design Studio in the late 1980s that the Emperor was originally in fact popular entertainer Cliff Richard. I wasn't being malicious or facile, I worked there at the time (in quite a senior position, with input into the first edition of 40K, and someone who knew both Brian and Rick very well) and was stating this as a fact, not an April Fool's joke.

Well, I still have some then very rare 'for internal use only' photocopied documentation giving the 'history of the 40k universe' (as then percieved), the nature of Chaos in it (etc., etc.). Of course it's not on headed notepaper, so I assume it wouldn't count, no matter how genuine..? I don't have any particular axe to grind, just thought it was an amusing aside which would disappear forever unless noted.

It's one of those ones that would be very difficult to call, but unless it's been published, I'd have to guess no. As an aside, I'd be curious to see whats in those docs.

I can see the problem, but then of course it was never considered for publication, it was an in-joke based entirely on the British popular press description of Cliff as 'eternally youthful' and this, combined with his strong Christianity meant that it was possible he stayed youthful, and eventually became the ruler of humanity. That was why I phrased my comment so carefully, not that he *was* the Emperor, but that it was a unofficial but commonly held belief - I heard it myself first from Rick. As to the docs, I still have them somewhere, my gaming history goes back to the late 70s, when I worked for (amongst others) Bryan Ansell's Citadel (when it was based in Newark, before the GW merger), and then GW/Citadel Eastwood and the Design Studio. As I rarely get rid of anything (much to my partner's annoyance), I'll dig them out for you. I do have original copies of many of GWs products (including both mine and John Blanche's own 'signed by everyone at the Design Studio' 1st edition 40k, all the products and WDs I wrote for and a lot of original John Blanche (and many others) artwork, given to me at the time. If there's anything you'd like a look at, let me know.

Categories

"Hi. Please do not add categories to userboxes, such as you did to Template:User Volleyball Player. That causes both the template itself and every user page which includes it to be listed in the category, which is entirely not what the categories system is intended for. Pardon me, please clarify your statement. Can you please cite exactly where in the categories system, users are not allowed to use the category template to organize wikipedians that which to be notified, known or referenced for their expertise in volleyball for the volleyball template. Per the above, there is actually a correct way to use categories with userboxes. If you put <noinclude>[[Category:Xyz]]</noinclude> in the userbox, it will put the userbox in that category, but not all the pages where the box is used; by contrast, if you put <includeonly>[[Category:Xyz]]</includeonly> in the userbox, the pages where the userbox is used will appear in the category, but the userbox itself is not. History merges

Hi. You speedy deleted Ciaphas Cain and Gideon Ravenor yesterday after I tagged them with {{Template:db-histmerge}} to perform history merges from Commissar Ciaphas Cain and Ravenor respectively, but as far as I can tell, no history merge as been performed. My understanding was that admin intervention was still needed to actually perform the history merge: if not, could you please give me some pointers as to how to do things. IOC Country Codes

Hey, I recently made a change on the IOC Country Codes page to disambiguate one of the three-letter codes there, which you reverted, stating "that is deliberately a three letter code". What is the usefulness of having this as a three-letter code link, intentionally linking to a disambiguation page that includes links 15 different pages, including a computer device, a museum, and a Star Trek character? Wouldn't it make more sense to simply redirect that link to the one page on the disambiguation page that actually matters? (Romania, in this case) --Maelwys 18:44, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

I am not used to dealing with people in this way and am not - as i'm sure you deduced - Knowledgeable of Wikipedia and the etiquette which should be followed. I do, however have proof to the existence of the influencial Scottish folk band the 4 drams. I am unable to bring it to your attention due to my lack of computer expertise but the IT department are sending someone over. The google search you took revealed very little due to the secrecy surrounding the band and the short time it has been running. I am sure once the album is recorded and on shop shelves more shall be written. My google search brings up 1,580,000 17 of which relate to the band. I again apologise for the offence i have caused. You really are very good at this wikipedia stuff. I didn't go through with my "little stunt" as you saw. My conscience got the better of me. It was really just to illustrate the effect that one man's actions has an effect on anothers and that you for no decent reason are trying to delete an article which is not offensive nor infactual. Volleyball

Oops. I didn't mean to make it sound like vandalism. Its been a few days, so I don't remember specifically, but I think I remember that most of the additions were not actually true, and they didn't really add to the article. I just finished with school for the semester, so I'm hoping to spend some real time cleaning it up. Category:Urban Culture

Whoops, my bad. I didn't find the category on WP:CFD (not realizing it was on the May 6th discussion logs), and since Wikipedia articles are usually named such that non-proper nouns outside of the first word are not capitalized, I thought the category was the result of a typo (which also explains why Independent Journalist moved it to the Category:Urban culture). I also noted it was empty and speedied it. The CfD discussion I guess should still go on over the issue of deletion for Category:Urban culture, and I'll add a comment on the discussion about my deletion of the first cat. Yes imbalance (noun only, not a verb) is an English word, and quite common! However... imbalanced, the adjective form, while a perfectly valid word - is much rarer. Unbalanced is much more common than imbalanced. An imbalance is often a temporary condition of something that is usually well balanced. Unbalanced generally implies a complete or near-complete lack of any balance at all, which is more likely to be permanent. People generally use the words like this: "Mmmm Obi-Wan, I feel a bit of an imbalance in the Force today, hmmm yes". People would rarely say "... a bit of an unbalance in the force". That's probably because unbalance is more commonly used as a verb, as in "tally ho, old chap - yield or I shall unbalance thee from thy lofty arrogant perch". So unbalance is not used as a noun so often. But when the adjective is required people will say unbalanced, as in "Yoda, i think its more than just a bit of an imbalance... I'd say the Force is as unbalanced as a drunk young jedi trying to sit on the tip of a light-sabre. Its totally out its tree. It looks like the Dark Side is on the verge of winning forever! And by the way Yoda, I think you're growing breasts, do you perchance have a bit of hormonal imbalance?". So the two words used commonly are imbalance as a noun, and unbalanced as an adjective.

Land Raider

I just reverted your revert on the Imperial Vehicles list. To better explain: the first line of the paragraph specifically says the LR was used by all Imperial forces, before it was limited to the Space Marines by the Emperor. The second/removed line says the Space Marines and the Imperial Army were the major users of the Land Raider, before the Emperor's decree.
