11-car trains

Are these the longest trains on the system, or are they not used on other lines because cars are normally paired, or what? --SPUI (talk) 05:50, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I Believe the Flushing line used to be a BMT line, which had longer cars than the IRT. In turn, to even out the diffrence 11 car trains run on the 7 line. the 7 line had a regular 10 car married pair train when it ran redbirds and a single car set someplace. In order to do this they had two seprate car orders, one for married pairs and one for singles. It is still done today and is practical, because of the R62A. however, that might pose problems for newer cars, as they have been in 5 car married pairs. 11 car trains however can't run on the mainline IRT, because of platform lengths.

In retrospect, the 7 line is the ONLY line in thesystem to run 11 car trains. keep in mind that IRT cars (otherwise known as Division A) are shorter the Division B cars (IND or BMT).

New York City airport transit service

I have created a link to this from 125th Street. Feel free to write this article; I think it is a good opportunity to write about certain bus lines without danger from VFD, as these routes (at least merged into one article) are clearly notable, as they provide the cheapest service to the airports. The M60 does not go to 125th Street and Broadway. It turns south at Amsterdam Avenue to 120th Street, and then takes 120th Street to Broadway, which it uses south to its end at 106th Street. See the M60 schedule (PDF). --SPUI (talk) 00:57, 26 Apr 2005 (UTC)

M60

I know it ends around West 106th Street. I listed it at the 125th Street Station, because that's the last transfer point from the 1 and 9 before turning off on 125th Street. Pacific Coast Highway 01:03, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

As I said above, it only uses Broadway until 120th Street, where it turns east and heads up Amsterdam Avenue the rest of the way to 125th Street.

Photos

I see you've been uploading some photos recently. You should tag them with an appropriate copyright tag. If you took them yourself, say so, and tag it with whatever license you want {{GFDL}} is assumed, or you can choose a "freer one" from that page. If you did not take the photos, you need permission from the photographers to release the photos under an appropriate license.

The bus depot symbols are a special case, as they are two-dimensional works of art covered by Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.. Thus the photographer cannot assert any copyright (except in cases where something else is in the photo, or it's taken at an angle to the wall). The only copyright would lie with the MTA, so these could be tagged {{logo}}. You should probably crop these, and maybe make the outside transparent. --SPUI (talk) 00:39, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately, that's not enough, and the photos will have to be deleted unless you get permission from the photographers to relaese them under an appropriate license. On the other hand, if you find any photos in the MTA news releases, those are OK to use - simply tag it with the following:

{{CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat|[http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/mta/news/newsroom/high-res.htm the copyright notice "© 2004 Metropolitan Transportation Authority" is included].}}

Just to clarify some points of copyright law: Whenever you see the words (C) 2005 plus the photographer's name, that is a "notice" telling you that the work is copyrighted, so the implication is, don't copy it unless you have permission.

Also, under current copyright law, copyright actually attaches automatically for all original works of authorship fixed in a tangible form of expression. But many artists and writers continue to use the copyright notice (which used to be, but is no longer an absolute prerequisite to enforcement of copyright) so that infringers can't claim they didn't know the work was copyrighted.

The default rule is that a work is copyrighted and that the rights to the work are inherently possessed by the artist (or their employer), unless the artist has clearly made a grant of the work to the public domain, or granted the right to reuse it under some kind of license. That's what those GFDL and Creative Commons license boxes all over Wikipedia are for.

One more thing: Copyright infringement is a strict liability tort where good faith is no excuse, so one has to be really careful. --Coolcaesar 07:27, 10 May 2005 (UTC)

Creating categories

You create categories the same way that you would create an article or template. The biggest difference is that some new categories do not have much more than a "parent" category or categories, although many categories also include some documentation. For example, Category:Los Angeles Metro Rail Stations would have a parent category in Category:Los Angeles and probably another for train stations.

You can find some more information at Wikipedia:Categories and m:Categories. Categories, unfortunately, are one of the least well-documented parts of the Wikipedia, so another way to find out how to do things is to look at how other editors have done things. Since you have doing the tram lines in Los Angeles, you might look at how the subways and other commuter lines are handled in New York, for example. Especially look at how the categories have been named, and the relationships between the parent and child categories. I hope that answers your question.

As for your {{LACMTA-stub}}, since one the guidelines for creating stub templates is that there should be around 100 stubs to put into the category, I would suggested using the {{Calif-geo-stub}} instead, because that stub may be deleted. BlankVerse ∅ 11:26, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

• I have reported the image Image:MTA Red Line.jpg, which you uploaded from [1], to Copyright problems. The website has a very clear policy against using images without approval. see [2]. Highway article

Wha...? I just looked at the article again. I posted it on the Copyright problems page on Sept. 12. What was it I didn't do that I was supposed to?

I double checked, and the copyvio is clear. I have now blanked the page, leaving only the vio notice, and asked the violator not to post more copyvios (many of his articles have been copyvios. I have also notified an admin to watch the page and the violator.

Wiki format for dates

At Wikipedia, each registered user can designate on his preferences how he likes to see dates. Then, if the full dates are enclosed in square brackets in any wiki text, the dates will appear to the user in his preferred form. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers). Although putting square brackets around dates is not required, it is pretty standard. That would avoid the issue you had at Miami-Dade_Transit. -- DS1953 ^talk 21:23, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

The reason I re-adjusted the date, because, as stated in the MoS, the local usage should outweigh any opposition (?). Therefore I changed it to American translation. Next time though, I'll add the [[]]. Pacific Coast Highway 21:26, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your message. "Forking", my understanding is that this is where people basically take a copy of a template, and change it a little (i.e. to add some extra information) and then give it a new name. So as soon ad blink the template population grows out of control. Copying to create a new template to use as a pattern to a completely ne subject to be used in different article types is ok. Not however copying to add a tweek or two to an existing one. More often than not what should be done is to create a temporary one to trail an amendment to the main template, seek concensus approval in the relevant wiki arena, and if agreed make the modifications to the base template. The most usuall forking is when people just want to add a new field, without relalising that these 'can' be added in a optional way without upsetting existing usage and references to the template. (see. Template:Infobox Book

TV Ratings Icon

I'm not sure what you mean. I didn't agree to anything. I looked at the wikiproject page you mentioned, but I didn't see anything stated about pictures versus text. I stand by my reasons that the text is better than the picture. The image conveys nothing that the text doesn't, and the text is a link to the rating system article. Forking a template

I may be wrong but forking a template is taking a copy to make some modification, usually small and then using that in place of the original. This "forks" the life of the template. Most advise concensus agreed modifications to the original. This may envolve temp templates to demonstrate the effect of the change to others, but that's different. :: Kevinalewis : ^{(Talk Page)} 16:04, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Image Stuff

Thats ok. The tag I added will mean an admin will come along and remove the image after a while. If you have any questions about image copyrights and stuff let me know. It is important that we get these things right otherwise it creates a lot of work for people later on trying to sort out the mess. 2011?

In your edit to Talk:London Underground you left the edit summary "(→Full Period - Changed vote, granted this is an international project, let the brits have their words. We'll get em' in 2011. :p)".

I'm confused about just what you think you will "get us" at in 2011? Looking at the 2011 article the only events where the UK and USA will be competing are:

• Cricket World Cup to be held in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Banglandesh.
• Rugby Union World Cup is scheduled to be held in New Zealand

And I think you seriously need help if you think the USA will do better than England in the former or any of the home nations in the latter! Although there is also

• The 2007 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships will be held in a TBA location.
• The International Olympic Committee is set to meet and decide the location of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

However, the UK is not expected to bid for the 2018 winter games, and I doubt we'll be competing in the Lacrosse championship (I don't even know if we have a national team). Could you perhaps have been meaning 2012? Brown Streak Railroads (GTA)

It's a shame you cannot remember ever doing so, but I assure you you can hijack trains in at least the first two games, if not the third as well. Enter the train, and press the ctrl key. Some references here and here, although on further inspection I fear one may be a copy of the other. Nevertheless, it is quite possible. If you could re-revert the page it would be appreciated, feel free to check it for yourself, GTA is free from Rockstar these days.
