My Loudness War Rewrite

I saw you noticed what I was trying to do there. Yeah, I haven't worked on it in a while, and with the changes made to the page I doubt I will in the future. I am no expert on the subject, especially when it comes to all of the physics stuff. I was trying more to remove the POV material more than to improve what content was there. The article is still riddled with POV, especially in the History section, but it is much better than it was when I first found it. Pilsen issue

With regard to your Pilsen update:

1. I do not know where you went to school or whether you studied somewhere abroad however so called "North American English" represents ACADEMIC STANDARD these days so no matter whether you're attorney in Argentina or nurse in Sweden it would be nice to follow it and don't try to figure out some sort of "Czech-Kiwi English". Thus it's not some kind of "merely" argument. Therefore we do not write faculty but school instead.

2. The thing that UWB has arguable uneducated faculty members in its language departments who studied during Husak's era (and that are unable to translate properly name of their own univesity - how embarrassing btw) cannot override the fact that PROPER title is the University of Western Bohemia. Have you ever heard of any university bearing such geographic name ??? It's NORTHWESTERN (actually quite elite institution) or NORTHEASTERN NOT Northwest University...it's ADJECTIVE !!! The site is aimed for those who do not have a clue where this town or Uni actualy is. I think it's important to realize that.

3. I hope I clarified what was necessary.

Jan Kaplický

Hello Jacklee, thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia but I think that it is not a place for April jokes as you did by renaming Jan Kaplický to Jan Kapličký. I am wondering how did you "invent" the new spelling. I was born in Bohemia and I live there for 31 years but I have never seen surname Kapličký, it does not exist in this and surrounding regions or Czech language. In every Czech book or newspaper you will find the correct name: Jan Kaplický. --pabouk 07:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

It was certainly not meant as an April Fool's joke. I was following the spelling used in the newspaper article Woodman, Ellis (2007-03-31). "The Library has Landed". The Daily Telegraph (Review). {{cite news}}: Check date values in: |date= (help) I suppose the journalist who wrote that article must have got it wrong. Sorry about that. Wireshark article low-importance assessment

In response to your question why the Wireshark article was rated low importance to WikiProject Free Software. I have taken the stance that the articles importance has meaning to Free Software as a whole. This can be very tricky to asses. I have valued approximately 100 articles, mostly articles about individual pieces of software. I didn't know most of them. How was I going to rate it? I made the judgement that software, independent of it's quality, should be viewed in the light of the importance to the Free Software community. Most articles have been rated low as a consequence. If you want to rate it as a mid-class I won't stop you, but I fear that consistency can be endangered. I hope that I have answered your question, Daimanta 11:13, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

In response to Overcompressed JPEG correction

Thank you for your feedback to this issue. I used Photoshop CS3 to correct the photos, and in the future I will keep in mind not to degrade quality in order to correct compression. Thanks for the feedback. Michael Schmatz

Hi, I just noticed the jpg compression tag you placed on Image:Scroll and ear.jpg last March. It was my intent for this picture to be a low-resolution icon-type small image; the low-res quality serves to generalize the subject. Hi, I understand that the image is intentionally cropped and that the aim was not to show the whole instrument or the person. I like the idea of the picture :) and I also think that the low resolution could be sufficient. I placed the tag there because the image contains easily noticeable JPEG artifacts especially around the scroll. For explanation what those artifacts are please see compression artifact.If you have the original picture in a higher quality it would help to crop the part again and to use a lower JPEG compression for storing the modified image. --pabouk 17:14, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Your recent SAM Coupe edit

I noticed you recently changed the SAM Coupe article to incorrectly include KiB/MiB prefixes. Please do not makes these changes because they are against MOSNUM. MOSNUM says There is no consensus to use the newer IEC-recommended prefixes in Wikipedia articles to represent binary units. It also goes on to say stay with established usage in the article, and follow the lead of the first major contributor.. The original style used in the article is here and you can cleatly see it uses KB and MB. By the way the phrase "editors should not change prefixes from one style to the other" in MOSNUM doesn't apply to my edits because I'm using MOSNUM to correct the previous edit that was made to introduce KiB/MiB which differs from the original style. OK, you are right but please do not say that the article incorrectly included binary units prefixes. By the way I found using the SI prefixes in the meaning of the binary ones very confusing and I do not understand why there are people who do not want to accept the reasonable solution. --pabouk 15:19, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

GTX

I noticed that you believe "GTX" should direct to Gore-Tex, as well as GeForce. I changed the redirect from Gore-Tex because I didn't see evidence of "GTX" used anywhere in the article, nor from my general knowledge that it is used in presumptive reference to Gore-Tex. Is there a referenceable source available supporting use of "GTX" to refer to Gore-Tex? Regarding GeForce, I'm not seeing any models listed as only "GTX", rather "GTX [number]", which would not qualify as entries on a dab page by MOS:DAB guidelines. Hello. No, I do not believe that GTX should direct to Gore-Tex or anything else. At the time I searched for the meaning of GTX there was no article named "GTX" on Wikipedia so I created the redirect when I realized that GTX is used as an abbreviation for Gore-Tex mainly in product names. See for example: [1][2][3][4].

I corrected the entry for GeForce. It is a mark for high performance GeForce editions. See [5][6][7][8].

Unfortunately I do not know the Wikipedia rules to detail but I am afraid that the links I listed cannot be used as references in Wikipedia. By the other hand I believe that the information is easily confirmable by checking the links and I would like to save Wikipedia users the work I have already done by searching the links.

Hello (where were my manners?). I'm endeavoring to follow the guidelines in MOS:DAB, which cover usage of disambiguation pages for distinguishing topics with the same name, as opposed to the indexing of entries that include a given term as part of their topic names. For example: entries that should not be created. It's a valid question whether "GTX" should redirect to "Plymouth GTX". I would offer that from the perspective of the average person, they would expect a car to be identified to by the model name alone (without manufacturer name). However, I'm not invested in redirecting "GTX" to the car model, per se. I am concerned about disambiguation pages becoming unwieldy because of inclusion of unambiguous topic names. By extension, I want to avoid conditioning people to expect unambiguous topic names on disambiguation pages generally, which would encourage the addition of still more. Hello, thank you for your reasonable argumentation. Now I agree that the entry for GeForce should not be there. I think that Gore-Tex and Plymouth GTX should stay there but I am not sure if a two-entry disambuguation page is suitable and/or possible. Could you please resolve the problem correctly? ({{otheruses}}?)
