Translation suggestions edit

I have been translating wikipedia pages from Eglish to Greek.

I have found on the way a few terms used on English pages, that not even Google have information on. I am facing a similar difficulty right now. On "Metasearch engine" page, the word "littling" has been used.

What is the best practice to deal with something like this? Would you suggest talking to the person that wrote the article to figure out what they meant? Are there any other suggestions considering such issues?

thank you in advance,

Oopocmoeraki (talk) 07:39, 9 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

The best practice is to check whether the article actually is correct. I this case it isn't. I first checked the reference, which didn't use the term, then Googled the term, which led to only Wikipedia mirrors, and then dug through the page history to find where it had been added. That's vandalism or a "test edit". I have reverted it. Huon (talk) 10:01, 9 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

This was really helpful! Thank you very much!

Speedy deletion nomination of Rizovouni edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Rizovouni requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Jalen Folf (talk) 14:35, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@JalenFolf: I am not familiar yet with the urgency of page deletion on wikipedia. I never found the "Contest this speedy deletion" button either. Anyway, I have posted instead of this page the page "Rizovouni Preveza" which solved this problem. Oopocmoeraki (talk) 14:24, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Image without license edit

Unspecified source/license for File:Rizovouni.gr.jpeg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Rizovouni.gr.jpeg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 19:45, 16 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Rizovouni.gr.jpeg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Rizovouni.gr.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

@whpq I translated the page "Rizovouni Preveza" directly from the Greek Page "Ριζοβούνι Πρεβέζης". The photo is used there (https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/Αρχείο:Rizovouni.gr.JPG) and I thought I added it correctly in the en.wikipedia. Perhaps I missed something? I thought I uploaded giving the credit to the person that has allowed the photo to be used. Please advise. Oopocmoeraki (talk) 00:34, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

You didn't provide any information on the image's copyright status beyond naming the author and source website. The Greek page has a licensing tag that appears to indicate that the image is freely licensed, but there's no evidence beyond the username (which could have been chosen by anybody) that the uploader who placed that tag is actually the copyright holder. We'll need confirmation by email; see WP:Requesting copyright permission and WP:Donating copyrighted content for details. Huon (talk) 01:22, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Revithousa moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Revithousa, does not have any sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. scope_creepTalk 23:57, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!
