Smithsonian Institution Archives Edit-a-Thon and Meetup!

edit
Who should come? You should. Really.
She Blinded Me with Science: Smithsonian Women in Science Edit-a-Thon will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Smithsonian Archives in Washington, D.C. This edit-a-thon will focus on improving and writing Wikipedia content about women from the Smithsonian who contributed to the sciences. It will be followed by a happy hour meetup! We look forward to seeing you there!

...and if you do not live in the Washington, D.C. area, please forgive the intrusion and you can delete this invite! Sarah (talk) 04:47, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thoughts on your questions and sandbox work

edit

Hi there! First of all, your questions: your problem with the text disappearing sounds weird! I don't know of what might be causing that, but I would recommend you try a different browser or see if you can update your browser to the latest version if you keep having problems. If you update and continue to have problems, it would be great if you could bring your laptop in so that we can see what's happening in action. Then, as for the references, you'll need to use the "cite" button and then pick a template at the top of the editing box to insert a citation. Then, at the end of the page, you need to write (and I have to spell it out or else it will think I'm using the code) equal sign equal sign Works Cited equal sign equal sign, then one line under write curly brace curly brace reflist curly brace curly brace. I know that might sound confusing, but here's a video on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Citing_sources_tutorial,_part_1.ogv. The video was made a while ago, so you can just use the "cite" tool at the top rather than add the ref tags yourself. Again, you can come in to office hours if this is unclear. One final point-- since I see you have signed up to work on "List of sports rivalries," you might want to start practicing using grids. Just copy the code for one of the grids into the sandbox and see if you can figure out how to replace content, add extra rows, and whatnot. Hope that helps!
