Nomination of Hansard of the Sarawak for deletion edit

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Hansard of the Sarawak is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hansard of the Sarawak until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. CMD (talk) 10:31, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Omdo,

It seems that some of your hard work is being put out. It also seems like some of your work/stubs {pages such as "Hansard Sarawak"} warrants guarding, but (IMHO) need some more details and labor.

Pages lost pretty quickly on wikipedia, mostly due to spammers who add fake wikipedia details, and some "contributors" do not know where Malaysia is.

Perhaps you do me a favor and develop "Hansard Sarawak" to reflect what goes with parliment in Sarawak since independence? I notis Hansard appears in the print media often enough.

OK? Leng T'che (talk) 09:46, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sultan Sulu territory edit

What is your basis behind adding Labuan and the western part of the territory in the North Borneo dispute, those area was undisputedly Brunei's territory which has been ceded to the British North Borneo Company. Stop your disruptive editing. --Danazach (talk) 05:13, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please explain your basis here. Yhe territory in dispute is the eastern part of Sabah, even when Sabah was still considered as North Borneo, it is just the eastern part of North Borneo. The western part including Labuan (which you have included) has always been known to be the Sultan of Brunei territory. --Danazach (talk) 10:31, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I agree with Danazach. I think you should read more about that here. Only the eastern part been given by the Sultanate of Brunei to the Sultanate of Sulu. — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 17:47, 27 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

List of irredentist claims or disputes edit

Hello! Can you explain your edit to the List of irredentist claims or disputes article regarding the Philippine claim to North Borneo? Why do you think it is of irredentist nature? Not all territorial disputes can be called irredentism. Xeltran (talk) 13:23, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

See Irredentism - Omdo (talk) 13:37, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Point taken. Let me revise it a bit. Xeltran (talk) 13:54, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I do not understand the context of your edit here, especially the part where it says The Philippines claims, either directly the territory through the heritage of the Sultanate of Sulu. Either directly or indirectly? From a grammar standpoint, it is very confusing. The wikilink to the article about the North Borneo dispute is already given for convenience. Xeltran (talk) 18:43, 31 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
it's legal phrase, See Manila Accord -Omdo (talk)
Where exactly? Nothing in the Accord has that verbatim version of the text. On the contrary, the word group "The Philippines claims the territory through the heritage of the Sultanate of Sulu" is, I believe, an acceptable and correct sentence when paraphrased from the Accord that says "...is subject to the final outcome of the Philippine claim to North Borneo" and from the text of the accompanying sources in the North Borneo dispute article. The formation of Malaysia edit

The formation of Malaysia, which you just created is an unattributed copy/paste of content from the history of 20-point agreement. This is a WP:CONTENTFORK. The article History of malaysia#Towards Malaysia already covers these events. If you are trying to create a new article, then please remove the copy/pasted content and add some original content to the article. As it stands, the only thing I can see to do with it is redirect to History of malaysia#Towards Malaysia. If you intend to keep any of the material you copied and pasted in the article, then please give it proper attribution. See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Unattributed content will be removed as a WP:COPYVIO. Thanks. Begoontalk 08:08, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Could I have an update on this? Did you intend to attribute the WP:COPYVIO content properly, or should I remove it? I notice you have tried to expand the article, so perhaps it would be best just to remove the copy/paste stuff and then what remains can be assessed without the distraction of the copyvio. Let me know what you think. You could also comment at Talk:History of Malaysia#Proposed merge of any suitable content from The formation of Malaysia if you wanted to give your views on the merge/redirect that is being discussed. Cheers. Begoontalk 03:45, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok - well just to update you, I've commented at Talk:History of Malaysia#Proposed merge of any suitable content from The formation of Malaysia to the effect that I'm going to go ahead and redirect the article tomorrow. The WP:COPYVIO content cannot be left indefinitely, and without it (or with it), the "article" is just duplication of material covered better at History of malaysia#Towards Malaysia. If you want a different outcome, I urge you to comment there, because if you don't respond, your views cannot be taken into account. Thanks. Begoontalk 03:29, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

edit

I have created and uploaded a fair-use image at en.wikipedia: File:Sarawak_Sovereignty_Movement_logo.jpg. I have replaced the image in the article.

The original copyvio file is no longer required and has been nominated for deletion at Commons. This was a fair amount of work for me to need to do because the logo was incorrectly licensed.

In future, please follow correct licensing procedures or seek advice (from me, or from an administrator, if you like, or at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions if you prefer) if you have other such images to upload, so as to avoid creating unnecessary work for other editors. Thanks. Begoontalk 06:23, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Communication edit

Omdo, I have tried to communicate with you many times now concerning the COPYVIO/content fork you made at the formation of Malaysia above. You have not responded once. You have also made no attempt yourself to fix the copyright issues or the lack of any content not already covered by our existing article. Your edit summaries never contain an explanation of your edits, and you never communicate on talk pages. If you don't communicate then it is impossible to take your point of view into account. I'm undoing your latest revert. Please don't revert again without joining the discussion at Talk:History of Malaysia#Proposed merge of any suitable content from The formation of Malaysia.

I've tried to help you, for example by improving your poor English grammar for you in several articles, and by uploading correctly licensed versions of images for you, so that they are not just deleted, but if you don't join in discussions then that's not very easy. We write wikipedia collaboratively, not in little groups of one person, and your refusal to participate in collaboration makes life very difficult for others.

If you were prepared to collaborate with other editors such as myself to create a proper, good article at that location, incorporating material from History of Malaysia, and ensuring that all relevant material and viewpoints are properly represented - including the ones you would like to see represented, and copyright procedures followed properly, then I, and I'm sure other editors, would be very pleased to work with you on it, as you obviously have much good knowledge to share on the subject. Begoontalk 22:59, 6 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK - well, I genuinely have tried to be fair to you. I see you have now undone the revert again, without any discussion of the above points. I asked a respected Administrator, Dennis Brown, for advice on what to do about this situation. You can read the discussion here: User talk:Dennis Brown#Advice. As you will see, his advice was that I should make a report at WP:ANI recommending you be blocked until you agree to edit collaboratively. I really don't want to do that, but unless you engage in discussion I can see no remaining options. Begoontalk 00:23, 7 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Copyright violation edit

With this edit you introduced the following text:

The content available at http://www.theborneopost.com/2011/09/16/formation-of-malaysia/ contains the following text:

This is an obvious copyright violation - see WP:COPYVIO. Please rectify it, noting that Even inserting text copied with some changes can be a copyright violation if there's substantial linguistic similarity in creative language or structure (this can also raise problems of plagiarism). Such a situation should be treated seriously, as copyright violations not only harm Wikipedia's redistributability, but also create legal issues., so merely adding a citation is not sufficient. Please also check whether you have copied text from elsewhere in this fashion in any of your other contributions, and remove any infringements you might find. If you need help fixing these issues, or explanations, please ask.

I also note that you have yet to respond to the copyvio discussions above regarding copy/pastes within Wikipedia. Wikipedia takes copyright matters very seriously, so it would be appreciated if you could attend to these matters quickly. Thank you. Begoontalk 06:26, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Omdo

Thanks for creating the book stub Brunei and Malaysia. I just copyedited it to fix the poor English and overlinking. In the process I rewrote several problematic close paraphrase segments you had taken from the Amazon page and this newspaper article.

Please read the links I have given you above, (WP:COPYVIO, WP:CLOSEPARAPHRASING) and do not introduce problematical content like this - you need to use your own words to summarise sources. Proposed deletion of Making of Malaysia (disambiguation) edit

The article Making of Malaysia (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unnecessary disambiguation with barely plausible terms - redirect for Making of Malaysia to The Making of Malaysia was fine, and all that is needed.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sarawak Sovereignty Movement edit

Omdo - as previously requested, please read WP:OVERLINK. It is neither necessary nor desirable to link multiple occurrences of the same term in an article. Linking the first instance is sufficient, and avoids confusing the reader by submerging him in a sea of blue links.

Additionally, I am, again, requesting that you address the above outstanding copyright issues referred to by myself and User:Dennis Brown on numerous occasions, and which you continue to simply ignore. If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this:   which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of recreating the page. Thank you. Proposed deletion of Christina Suntai edit

The article Christina Suntai has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non-notable person - Standard searches do not reveal enough significant coverage in independent reliable sources

-- 1Wiki8Q5G7FviTHBac3dx8HhdNYwDVstR (talk) 09:32, 10 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1654 (XVI) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on United Nations General Assembly Resolution 1654 (XVI) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://legal.un.org/avl/ha/dicc/dicc.html and https://www.ohchr.org/EN/ProfessionalInterest/Pages/Independence.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ♠Vami_IV†♠ 00:14, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

History of Malaysia edit

I would like to know what does this reference have to do with "Initially, the British followed a policy of non-intervention in relation between the Malay states." In the context of the article, "Initially" appears to be referring to before the Pangkor Treaty of 1874 and "infighting between the aristocracy on the peninsula" because of "The commercial importance of tin mining in the Malay states to merchants in the Straits Settlements" while the reference cites a document printed in 29th August 1945 referring to events in 1944.

Here is the edit I am referring to. — Fredrick Campbell (talk) 10:05, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
