Adding sources edit

In this edit, you indicate that the County runs two public golf courses. How do you know that? You found that information somewhere, so just add the source. When you do add a source, spell out the details as much as possible; don't just leave a link to a web page or a laundry list of pages. Use other sources as a model.

I'm also guilty of it, but try to avoid bulleted lists where possible and use prose instead. In any article for a place as big as a county, you probably don't need to list every single park (or body of water, etc.); try to limit any list to those with their own Wikipedia articles. Look at other county and municipal articles for ideas of what works best and what you might try out in articles in your part of the country.

Let me know if I can help. Alansohn (talk) 18:29, 22 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Alansohn thanks Alan. Trying to draft up articles on them in sandbox. will add sources with descriptions to Union county page too. Oldyorke (talk) 18:34, 22 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

As another example, look at this edit. I'm sure that these historical societies exist in Hillside and Plainfield, but where are the sources? How do you know that it's true? Prove it with the necessary sources. Alansohn (talk) 04:11, 2 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Avoid links to maps edit

As in this edit, avoid links to maps solely to show the location of something. Use references to support information *ABOUT* something, not merely to show where it is. Alansohn (talk) 18:35, 6 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for March 10 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pilgrim Pipeline, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Prestige. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Improperly formed references edit

this edit added a number of references that are improperly formatted. For the most part, put the link first inside brackets and then the description. Look at how other references are formatted as a guide to add new sources and feel free to contact me with any questions. Alansohn (talk) 02:59, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Copyvio issues at Hawk Rise Sanctuary edit

There had been very difficult issues regarding violations of WP:COPYVIO policy in the past, for which I argued that these were the innocent mistakes of a new editor. I'm very concerned that there were apparent violations of this policy at Hawk Rise Sanctuary, an article you created today. Please be extremely careful as the claim that you are a newbie no longer flies. Please acknowledge that you have ssen this note and please contact me if I can help with anything. Alansohn (talk) 17:. Alan please confirm - can you see this? Oldyorke (talk) 15:32, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Never assume that material is correct and not a copyvio until you look at the source yourself. Given the past, please be extremely careful. Please look at the note above about how links are formatted in references. Alansohn (talk) 20:55, 30 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Adding hip hop culture categories edit

Hi. Please don't add non-existent categories to articles, and most of the articles you added said "hip hop culture in New Jersey" categories to don't have anything (or very, very little) to do with that state or particular area anyway. Thanks. Ss112 10:31, 25 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
