Your name and interests edit

Hello, Nutopia 123. I notice that your username is but a slight variation on the name of the company Nutopia, whose article you've edited. Please take a look at Wikipedia's confict of interest guidelines, which caution against editing any article in which you have an interest, as well as the Username policies, here, which explain that that a corporate username is not permitted. (You'll probably need to change it to something more personal to you as an individual.) I welcome you as a new Wikipedia editor - but do sort out those two problems ASAP. Thanks! Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I now understand that my username needs to be changed and I need to ensure the content on our page is not promotional in any way. I am a new user - sorry for mistakes

Decline reason:

Since it would not be appropriate or useful for you to write about 'Nutopia,' and you have not expressed any interest in writing about any other subject, you would appear not to need a Wikipedia account right now. Please feel free to ask again, if you change your mind. FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 15:47, 27 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I understand that the reason I was blocked was due to the fact that my username appeared to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Also, having now read more about how to update Wikipedia I think some of the content I added to the page to try and 'deorphan' it i.e. links to other websites with our company information on there may have been seen as promotional. I will change this immediately when you reinstate my userID to ensure that it is neutral. Sorry, I am a new user to Wikipedia having just taken over a role at my company. Still learning, this was an honest mistake. Thank you.

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 13:58, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Help?! Please advise what I need to do to undelete the article/page 'Nutopia_company' and unlock my account... edit

I really need some help here please. I've been locked out because I accidentally (due to being new to wikipedia) promoted myself with company name in username and also i think by trying to 'deorphan' my the Nutopia_company article i have inadvertetnly 'promoted' our services rather than remaining impartial. Sorry for this, please undelete it and unlock my profile so I can fix the info and make sure it is within your rules. Apologies again, thank you.

Two seperate answers. Firstly, your article as it stands is blatantly promotional, and stands no chance of being restored in its present form. It would need to be written in a wholly neutral way, while at the same time asserting encyclopaedic notability (which I personally do not see). Secondly, while changing your user name to one unrelated to your topic of interest may allow an unblock, you would still not be allowed to write about topics with which you have a conflict of interest. Apart from Nutopia, what else do you plan on writing about?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 22:51, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
