Islamic astronomy ArticleHistory

Hi Nousernamesleft. This edit to the Islamic astronomy talk page created an error in the ArticleHistory template. When adding a good article to the ArticleHistory, you should write "Listed" (exactly as it's written) for the result. Further details can be found at Template:ArticleHistory. Thanks, PeterSymonds | talk 20:15, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks! I really appreciate the barnstar. I'd also like to thank you for your much needed help in bringing the Islamic astronomy article up to GA standards. Kind regards, Jagged 85 (talk) 21:29, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:Images mathcounts kevin chen.gif

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Images mathcounts kevin chen.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 03:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Woody (talk) 03:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Failed GA Green marketing

That section requires very little if not no sources at all; it is about economic reasoning and rationalism as an ad hoc thinking of future consequences and implications, which is perfectly normal and in complete accordance with WP:CITE. The info in this particular section is ad oculus and too commonsense to be sourced. I will try my best to ensure some sourcing of the material , but I would urge you to reconsider your review; the article complies with GA criteria (I know because I have been reviewing GAN's for some time now). Λua∫Wise (talk) 09:45, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I am also interested in what part of the quick fail criteria did you use to fail the article. We know it was not number 1: "A complete lack of reliable sources - see Wikipedia:Verifiability." so what did you use? please point me to the policy you used. I am always ready to be corrected and be proven wrong nonetheless.Λua∫Wise (talk) 10:47, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Afd for Alliance for Lupus Research

Hi there. While I have no heartburn with the outcome (I would have voted the same way) isn't two votes in an Afd that had been open for two hours mighty slim to call a snowball? Xymmax (talk) 19:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Goodness no, don't relist on my account. Like I said, I would have voted to keep it also. The only reason I said anything is that I was surprised to see the Afd closed so soon. I personally wouldn't have called it a snow, but hey, I guess you're just being bold :) Xymmax (talk) 00:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Re: Userpage

I know man!! I need some serious help ! I will spend the day trying different colour combination, and if it does not work, I will use the old style I had before, after all, this user page is kindda my beta one....If you have any suggestions, they are welcomed. (hmm...that's why I have a note on the userpage warning anyone who views it!)
Ah, am not particularly new to WP, even on this account (3 months and 1.2K of contributions), but yes I had 2 previous accounts where I lost the password :(. I did not seek them back, what's the point of doing so?
Thanks for the note though (by the way, I have your name on my userpage).

Nousernamesleft/archive2, Thank you for your support in my RFA which passed 43/0/1. I would like to especially thank Bibliomaniac15 for being my nominator and admin coach. I would also like to thank Rudget for being my co-nominator. I'm sure that I can live up to the community's expectations as an administrator, and not totally mess everything up. RfA thanks

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which was unsuccessful with 19 support, 18 oppose, and 5 neutral. I have signed up for admin coaching and will retry later on in a couple more months.

I'm sorry you felt I am inexperienced to become an admin. I hope that by performing more edits on Wikipedia in the next few months that I could possibly change your mind by my next RfA, possibly around May 2008. I hope you got a change to review the answers I gave to NASCAR FAN24 covering several policies including (but may not be limited to) the issues you had about my edit records. In any case, thank you for voting and I look forward to working with you in the future. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 04:48, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

BOT

Hello,
I heard you are designing a BOT (nobotnamesleft), so what does it do and what language are you using? Perl perhaps? Λua∫Wise (talk) 09:19, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I was wondering around when I found a GAN article (Henri Brocard -spelling?-) and I thought about SVGifying the signature and make it better looking, as many other WP biography articles have an .SVG signature, rather than simply a cropped image... here is the image, tell me what you think man.

I got rid of the background and did some cleaning as well. Cheers! Λua∫Wise (talk) 10:29, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I do not think anybody has designed a BOT for that purpose, tell us when it is ready. Me, I always choose Java, makes things easier to handle the good old way.
I re-read the article and you did a great job with small changes here or there. I left some notes on the talk page in response to your note.
A small piece of advice, per WP:TALK, one is not allowed to change other people's commentary as you did to mine on the Donegal fiddle tradition talk page by inserting your comments, but I really do not mind! I have no objection against it, but other people might, so this is why I am telling you, I had to learn this the hard way here! Please do not go and change your comments, I am perfectly fine with them. this is just a note ;)
Λua∫Wise (talk) 11:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for updating and then reverting my user page... mate you gotta chill out :) and get not too technical! By definition, I now have 4 DYK's. count'em, although I only nominated half , but is still considered DYK. And also technically speaking, Henri Brocard is a current good article nominee; not a GA. Anyway, you are extremely active with RfA, if you are planning for run for admin. in the future, I could nominate you if you want.
Λua∫Wise (talk) 09:29, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I also wanted to update your desk, and remove "implement helpful suggestions bu user:auawise", since you are done now with them, but I did not have your permission, so I am just informing you :).Λua∫Wise (talk) 09:32, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

(reset indent)Why do you respond to my messages in installments? (Am just kidding ;D, I do that myself) ... Anyway, I will nominate you for RfA after your main space edits reach over 1000-of course I will ask you first, and if you agree I will officially nominate you-. And about that French guy Henri, I was going to review his article, and pass it for GA, but that seemed a little inappropriate; *cough* cronyism *cough* ;well, it will not qualify as cronyism since I really do not know you and you do not know me, but some people will say that, and I had my fair share of these people in the past on WP. And one more thing: Com'on man, why are you doing this? If I can't go and blank your user page right now, and "imagify"-(from "image" + "ify", such as "SVGify") a part of your signature that is related to a long story on it, what is the point of editing it????! :) This is a joke, I repeat A JOKE, I have no intension to vandalize Wikipedia, please do not report me to an administrator, I do not want to get blocked! Λua∫Wise (talk) 18:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

lol :D. "Cronyism"; yeah, it's a new one, I heard about it for the first time on SNL, and it is a cool word if you think about it; as in "wadd up mah crony?". Also cutting down on your vandalism for the last 200 edits will help your RfA (If anyone's reading this in the future, I am just kidding, he is a good guy, go and vote for him you nerds, instead of checking his talk page ;)! -nerd is used lovingly here, as in "what's up mah nerd?"-. Luckily this page Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Auawise is red linked -for now at least- but if you did anything to change that fact I will retaliate with Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/nousernamesleft ;). One more thing, I have a personal question, if you do not want to answer, it is okay, but what is your I.Q.?Λua∫Wise (talk) 16:35, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
That's some serious I.Q. you got there man! You are like one of the 0.01%! My I.Q. is much lower than that at 130 low to 138 high :(. Were you born this way, or did you seek increasing it? You should not "waste" your time on WP, because you ,sir, are a genius! Harvard and Mensa International are waiting you! Anyway, do not tell me you did not click on that link above, you thought it was for real! ;). Well, since we ran out of topics to talk about, I would like to wish you a fruitful wiki-carrier, my RfA offer is still open, if you ever choose to accept it, drop me a message and I will officially nominate you, also may I ask a favor? Could you go here and tell me whether they are accurate, cause I am pretty sure there is something wrong with their tests, only if you do not mind. Thanks and Cheers!. Λua∫Wise (talk) 14:42, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
You are 4 years younger than me :0!!! And yet you can create a remotely hosted PHP script for your BOT, and I can barely write some Java scripts...for the moment I can not tell which is more impressive: how stupid I am or how smart you are! ;).....Anyways, Keep up the good work... and you are never too young to get to Harvard, trust me on that one. Good luck! Λua∫Wise (talk) 14:16, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
If you have not figured it out yet, then here it is: I stole the User:Auawise/icon idea from you! :)... In fact, just minutes ago, I was still stealing ideas from you (e.g. {{rollback}} ) ;). For the moment, I saw it is better to integrate it with the my user page. Why did not you do the same instead of starting a separate sub page?
I think if your RfA works, you could well be the youngest sysop! ;)
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 11:43, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Technically speaking, it was from a user subpage and not a user page, and: oh really? read the fine print at the bottom man, "You agree to license your contributions under the GFDL.";). Therefore, YOU CAN NOT SUE ME! :). Anyway, I noticed you, yourself, have "stolen" some ideas for your userpage from other users...
Also, have you considered admin couching?
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 17:30, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Apologies for the typo :)
You seem very confident of yourself; a desirable attribute in a sysop. I just wanna say that this is the longest conversation I ever had on WP to date, and it ain't getting any boring ;) first thing that comes to mind when reading it is any Seinfeld episode (by the analogy I mean a show about nothing that has some good jokes (mostly yours) and some lame ones (mostly mine)). Anyways "Temperal", you said you spoke a number of languages fluently, may I ask what languages you speak, other than English that is.
P.S. Your name appears here, in Omaha?
P.S.2 Happy New Chinese year -春節- since your ancestors once lived in China :).

Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 20:25, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

(indent thing :))The comment was rather random indeed; I just write whatever that happens to be "in my mind" the moment my fingers hit the keyboard when writing an informal message, thus sometimes I just jump from one topic to the other , and sound incoherent. The ability to fluently speak 3 languages is rarely observed among 12 year-olds, and is very difficult to attain once the Language acquisition device becomes unavailable after a certain age. It is one of the fields that interest me due to its ad oculus relation to IQ and brain functioning (needless to say, many of my peers (16 yr olds) find the topic as dull and boring as it can get). A sequence of somewhat odd events has puzzled me as I started looking into your former class mate's history; he not only revealed your name on his userpage -that you vandalized a long time ago- but also has left me a message yesterday at the same time you left your first one exactly (just one minute apart). He has been inactive for some time, and to see that he detected his name on my talk page the same day I put it there is rather odd, do not you think? Also, I have made a small mistake above that I corrected on your talkpage; the User:Dattebayo321 would actually lead to here rather than his page, making it all more difficult for him use "what links here" and find my page, let alone doing it in the same day and one minute before your post...... I have corrected the flag tag. The problem mainly happened because of my involvement with WP:GL, not really a long story, but a boring one, so the bottom line is : they are fixed now.

Cheers. Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 19:34, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, She left a message saying something about a remix, I think 12 yr olds are talented these days. I am happy that I am not the only one who thinks you deserve the nomination and the tools, I just want to note that the 1000 main space edit- figure is a bit far from being an arbitrary number, an admin is required to have at least this number of edits + another 1000 of talk page edits to prove his involvement with the community, what do I have to prove that you ask, I say that I read something like that somewhere, but I can not cite it right now.
Since we are including random stuff in our messages, here is one: SAT is really easy! :)
I disagree with the note that IQ is a mere indication of one's ability to learn, the effects of IQ extend beyond the classroom to every aspect of life, its socioeconomic effects are too great to be ignored (see IQ and Global Inequality and IQ and the wealth of nations, controversial? yes, but worth considering nonetheless).Nothing is 100% certain in that field, and this kind of uncertainty opens the door to much speculation about whether IQ is everything, nothing, or something in between.
Your name appears here, no need to confirm it's true or not; your privacy is respected.
Cheers! Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 19:42, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
I am starting to think that you might be right on that one; I might have read the 1000 thing somewhere and mistaken it with somewhat a policy. I have tried to locate it, but utterly failed to do so in the last hour. The memory is a mysterious thing, or at least, mine is malfunctioning! :)
I started the RfA page. PLEASE review my nomination introduction and inform me of any changes you want, even to the extent of replacing it altogether. I do really do not mind.
As usual, take your time to answer all questions, briefly but perfectly; I think there are some editors who will read the responses and vote rather than go through your entirely history.
Okay ,"Shoe" is something that I found odd but it is nonetheless possible, especially if you take into considerations (misspellings of) Asian names, do not you think? If you would not like to comment on this farther, we respect your privacy as I said before. (What "We"? I really do not know, I just used it there instead of I, it seems more serious! :) )
I would like to wish you the best of luck in your RfA. Go get'em! ;)
P.S. Sorry for messing up your talk page with the RfA nomination template, I thought this way it will catch your attention from the first glance. :)
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 18:11, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Hello again,
Come on man, just make 13 edits and the statement about "over a 1000 mainspace edits" will be correct! :)
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 18:16, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I almost forgot about the nom vote!! Things are going well for you, with I think only 2 opposes. You could start celebrating now =). Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 17:39, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for calling my attention onto that. I didnt notice, that I am in those Categories. Im a little lost tho, there is no such code in my self-created userbox to put me there. See User:LiangHH/Ubx/ROC and User:LiangHH/Ubx/Israel. Can you help me out? 亮HH (talk) 00:03, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Wiki-Commons

Hello!

"long time...no see", eh?
How are you doing man? and !Congratulations (you know what I am talking about ;) !)
Anyway, the reason I am writing this message because I saw your Wikicommons note, and would like to thank you. I am really not interested in what's happening there, so I just copied the entire userpage code into my userpage there....big deal! I created the account in the first place because there is like a 60-size font that kept telling me to open up an account and upload there.
Thanks for uploading some of images there, and sorry that some of them caused you some trouble.
Also, HOW on earth did you find out that I opened an account there??? :)... It's kindda freakin me out man! :)
Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 18:51, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, I guess that makes sense..
I will upload some images there, but I am not really in the mood to go through discussions with people who want to delete them...
Thanks anyway...

One more thing, Congratulations on the AMC 12 126.5 -that's good , right? I am not familiar with the test.. more of an A-level guy myself. Λua∫Wise (Operibus anteire) 19:44, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Same - except I do Highers. You designed a nice "RfA Thanks" thing yet? WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDEN it seems the winds have stopped... 21:02, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
And so it ends... I'll prepare the RfA thanks thing now. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 22:18, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

You are now an administrator

Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. If you have any questions, get in touch on my talk page. WjBscribe 22:05, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Have a look at Wikipedia:Autoblock and see if it makes any sense to you. Basically, when we block an account, the underlying IP(s) is blocked as well if you tick the "Autoblock any IP addresses used" box on the block screen (which normally you should). That stops people from logging out and editing or switching to sockpuppet accounts while still using the same IP(s). Because IP data is private (you need to have checkuser access to know what IPs accounts edit from), autoblocks are represented by a number. If you look at Special:Ipblocklist you should be able see both normal blocks and autoblocks (where instead of an IP or account being blocked, you'll see a number like #790336). If someone's IP changes a lot, many autoblocks can result from a single block. Autoblocks last a day or two. If a user is unblocked during that period, its necessary to also unblock the number for the autoblock so they can resume editing. Don't worry if this doesn't make too much sense - admins who have been doing the job very well for years sometimes don't really understand autoblocks. If in doubt on a given case, ask... WjBscribe 22:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
(I don't understand autoblocks either.) Anyways, congratulations on your sysoppery! Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. (Provided they're unrelated to autoblocks, if you will...) Welcome to the Non-Existent Cabal. Keilana|Parlez ici 23:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Heh, I actually saw you put it on WBOSITG's talk page; it showed up on my watchlist. I do like to congratulate the new cabalists sysops, it takes the edge off of the shock of the new tools (and imminent floods of angry "why did you block me/delete/protect my page" messages). Anyways, I've got some useful admin scripts if you want them, please do ask if you'd like them. Keilana|Parlez ici 23:19, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
OK, I gave you VoA's admin tools, Animum's EasyBlock, various scripts that add useful admin buttons to your sidebar, an AFD/RFPP closing script, Friendly, DerHexer's enhanced rollback, and ^demon's CSD script. Some of them may have conflicts, I was just given them by another admin. Enjoy! They will make your sysop life easier. Keilana|Parlez ici 00:02, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

congradulations

congrats on your shiny new mop and bucket, and if you want to have this switched over to a flamethrower, I'm sure it can be put up for discussion. or perhaps a "this user has access to the nuclear missile button and will press if necessary"--Pewwer42  Talk  23:30, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

LOL. But you should've used "Nosysopsleft" for the title! Noes! WEBURIEDOURSECRETSINTHEGARDEN it seems the winds have stopped... 23:40, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Would you mind taking another look at my talk page and telling what's wrong with it? User:Dorftrottel 00:00, February 18, 2008

Ok. User:Dorftrottel 00:03, February 18, 2008

Congrats man

I'm positively glad that the community saw fit to give you the mop and the tools. I'm sure you'll take my advice regarding some of the things I mentioned (and the other user suggestions as well, no doubt). I look forward to seeing your work! Good luck, dude. Feel free to drop me line if you need help, and I'll do the same for you. Cheers mate. : ) Wisdom89 (T / C) 00:02, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
