Spring locking gas spring edit

Hello. Why did you do a cut and paste move on this article? Thanks, Airplaneman talk 15:03, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

What do yo mean? Northamrtr (talk) 15:16, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am a newbie to Wikipedia, and am trying to post informing articles about different types of "Locking gas springs" which are not on Wikipedia anywhere. I am having difficulties getting these pages up and am getting lost in Wiki-format etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Northamrtr (talk) 15:18, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of T locking gas spring edit

A tag has been placed on T locking gas spring requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Gas springs edit

Clearly, you have a fair amount of knowledge on this subject. Unfortunately, none of your articles cite any reliable sources. Simply writing down what you know doesn't quite make it, you need to point to a source so that your information can be verified. Also, does Wikipedia really need a separate article on every conceivable type of gas spring? I think that the one article could be expanded to list the types and that would be fine, but a slew of new articles seems excessive. Your thoughts on the matter? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:22, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

If I can cite a website as a reference, how do I do it? Also, I think it is important to have each type of gas spring have it's own page, so each can have it's own identity. Then I can put links back to "gas spring" and "lockable gas spring" on each page. If you think this is wrong, please let me know, as I don't want to have anything deleted. I am new at this, and having a little trouble learning the methodologies of creating effective Wikipedia entries.

Also, could you please help me to post a picture to a page?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Yes you can cite a website as a reference. Look up the template {{cite web}}. I'm not sure how much that will help, however. The types of springs you're creating seem to be specific to a single manufacturer (i.e. what one manufacturer calls a T-type gas spring, another manufacturer may have a different nomenclature for). Also, I don't believe that the articles you are adding give sufficient detail to merit their own articles. I'm not sure why each type needs its own "identity": Wikipedia isn't a product ordering guide after all. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Lockable gas spring edit

The article Lockable gas spring has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article, rather than describing universal type designations, provides details about a single manufacturer's models.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:49, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please refer to the advice I gave you above. Your articles all appear to be about products offered by the Bansbach company. While these may be fine products, they are not individually notable. While Bansbach may designate a particular model as a T-type or a B-type or whatever, this does not make that designation an industry standard. Your contributions, referring to a particular company's products, are on the verge of spam and are all in danger of deletion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:52, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have re-edited the page and made it very generic and general. This is simply an informational page to inform the public about the many different types of lockable gas springs.Northamrtr (talk) 20:09, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:ERF Damper.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:ERF Damper.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 14:30, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
