License tagging for Image:Noaa3-2006-0602-1206.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Noaa3-2006-0602-1206.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 19:11, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Northpoleice-smaller.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Northpoleice-smaller.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 23:16, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Noaa3-2006-0602-1206.jpg edit

I have just arranged for Noaa3-2006-0602-1206.jpg to be added to WikiMedia Commons. I hope the licensors are happy with that.

I am happy with this. The image is NOT copyrighted. The image was taken with an automated web cam deployed at the North Pole by NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory. The image is freely available, however, your use of the image does not constitute an NOAA endorsement of your product or message. Credit NOAA/Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory.

Is there anything else that I should be doing here? Nancy Soreide, nancy.n.soreide@noaa.gov

Arctic Report Card edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Arctic Report Card, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://arcticportal.org/arctic-record-card-2010.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) The text in question is public domain text that describes the Report Card, from the About section of the Arctic Report Card. I can not see how it violates any copyright to use this text in multiple places. Nancy Soreide, nancy.n.soreide@noaa.govNns (talk) 21:38, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I had to removed the text, I didn't see a copyright on the website or any indication where public domain was asserted by the website. If no copyright is seen, it must be assumed to be copyrighted. If you have any questions, let me know. If you own permissions to the wesbite, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted material.--NortyNort (Holla) 00:59, 21 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
