Your recent edits edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

October 2017 edit

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:40, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I have blocked your account, because in spite of repeated warnings, you continued to add copyright material to this wiki in violation of our copyright policy and copyright law. You cannot resume editing until you provide a clear statement that demonstrates that you have read and understand our copyright policy and intend to follow it in the future. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:43, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Diannaa, I'm not sure why you blocked me and would like to know the specific reason why you blocked me. I was trying to edit my page and trying to add sections that would make the page look good and hopefully be one that Wikipedia would approved. I used another author's page example so that I could also add that information on my draft. I didn't copy said author's info and add it to the page, I used it as a guideline. Not sure why that would be something that would be a cause for being blocked. Nitareeny (talk) 23:36, 4 October 2017 (UTC)nitareenyReply

The specific copyright violations I found yesterday were on Draft:Sex in the Title, Draft:City Solipsism, and Draft:The Doorman. Since you had already received two warnings (May 2 and May 6) for copyvio, I blocked your account. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:13, 5 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I did not copy any working from the site and used my own words to describe the awards the book were given

Decline reason:

I have just checked your contributions and found several passages copied verbatim from http://sexinthetitlebook.com/ . These entries have been redacted from the page histories because of the copyright violation (so only administrators can see them), but I'm sure you know the edits to which I'm referring. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hi Diannaa and Yunshui, I went back and looked at my prior violations and this one and I now see what I did wrong and understand why you blocked me. I also re read the copyright policy and understand that what I did can cause legal trouble for you and the author's websites that I copied from. I didn't not do it with malicious intent but I realize malicious or not, doing so could hurt Wikipedia. I apologize and fully intend on following those guidelines in the future if I am allowed to be unblocked. Nitareeny (talk) 14:21, 5 October 2017 (UTC)nitareenyReply

I have unblocked your account, since you have now read and understand our copyright policy and intend to follow it in the future. Further copyright violations will result an you being re-blocked. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 03:29, 6 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hi Diannaa (or which ever Wiki Editor/User is reading this),

I understand that I was blocked for a copyright violation but I can't figure out what the basis for this block is.

Because of prior issues like this, I was careful to check my summary on this web site: https://www.quetext.com/report/4c17148b7b4301c4f8f0

The report identified a 7% plagiarism risk based on this text: "The next day, his girlfriend dumps him, also via email."

But that appears on the author's web site and the author (Zack Love) already sent an email on April 30, 2018 to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (with me cc'ed) authorizing me and Wiki to use any text on his site.

I also checked the text I tried to use in my article on: https://smallseotools.com/plagiarism-checker/ and that site flagged these two quotes:

1) "Originally from Ghana but educated at Oxford, Trevor charms anyone who hears him talk — if they can turn their attention away from his extraordinary six-foot-seven height"

2) "His buddy Heeb knows nothing about publishing but is confident of one thing: Evan’s book should have the word “sex” in the title."

But both of those lines are also from the author's web site and (again) he explicitly gave me and Wikipedia permission to copy any text or image from his web site.

If there is some other offending text besides those I've mentioned and that other offending text is not from his web site, please tell me what it is so that I can address it.

More generally, what tool is Wikipedia using so that I can make sure that I don't submit any text that will be flagged as problematic by that tool?

Lastly, should I ask the author to email you another permission that specifically addresses some particular text? In addition to that authorization/license email that he sent to me (and Wikipedia) on April 30 in which he said that any text from his entire web site could be used, I also got his approval for the entire text that I tried to add to Wikipedia, so it shouldn't be a problem to have him send you the same approval for the text of the article itself.

I hope this addresses your concerns. I have the highest respect for copyright and was operating under the good-faith belief that -- based on the permissions the author gave earlier (and his approval of the entire text that I submitted) -- the article I submitted was not violating anyone's copyright.

Hopefully we can resolve this matter ASAP, and I'll be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.Nitareeny (talk) 01:57, 20 June 2018 (UTC)NitareenyReply

Decline reason:

This is your third block for violating copyright. There seems little chance that you are ever going to understand and follow our copyright policy. EdJohnston (talk) 03:41, 20 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ed, my understanding is that if the owner of the copyrighted material gives me permission to use it, then there is no copyright violation. That is exactly what happened with my last contributed text. If you disagree, please tell me precisely where I used copyrighted material without permission (or let me know what additional proof of permission you require -- beyond the email that the author sent me and Wikipedia last April). Thanks, Nitareeny (talk) 00:24, 22 June 2018 (UTC)NitareenyReply

See WP:DONATETEXT for one way in which you can successfully prove to Wikipedia that the material is free for our use. If you believe that the author has already gotten permission through WP:OTRS then they should have received an OTRS case number that can be used for proof of the release.
