Welcome!

Hello, Niobrara, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions relating to roads. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

It appears that you have an interest in editing roads articles. For that, we have several projects (called WikiProjects) available for you: United States Roads, Canada Roads, and highways (worldwide). Feel free to join these projects, where quite a few of us have come together to collaborate.

Just as highways signs in the United States have to adhere to the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, we at Wikipedia and the United States Roads WikiProject have some standards that we request editors to follow. Please become familiar with the Wikipedia and U.S. Roads standards by checking out Wikipedia:Manual of Style and Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Standards. Editors that do not edit U.S. road articles only need to peruse the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Additional road article-related questions can be answered at the following links: United States, Canada, or other countries. You may also ask questions at my talk page.

Feel free to ask questions at #wikipedia-en-roads on IRC as well. Here, we have several editors who are willing to ask questions. For more information, see WP:HWY/IRC.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian and a roadfan! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username and the date. Again, welcome! Rschen7754 (T C) 19:41, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for fixing all those links to Dale Sanderson's U.S. Highways' Ends page. That has been on my massive get around to it list for some time. Refreshing to check your watchlist and find someone else doing it. Dave (talk) 14:44, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced trivia edit

Please don't add unsourced trivia to the various star articles with Bayer designations. The fact that a particular star has the brightest apparent magnitude for a particular Greek letter has no particular bearing on its properties, or anything else for that matter. It just looks to be purely unsource-able WP:OR and WP:TRIVIA. Thank you. Regards, RJH (talk) 02:36, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Most luminous stars edit

The (bolometric) absolute magnitude for Betelguese is still wrong. Nu Aquilae has been removed so is no longer an issue. Distance for rho Cas is uncited, although that comment should perhaps be directed at the detail page for the star which has had that random number for many years. Inconsistent refs to LMC. For HD 33579 you replaced exactly the same text that you added for VFTS 682, in the process reverting a change made the previous day and leaving the link pointing to a disambiguation page. For VV Cep A and B, especially B, you should make it clear that the apparent magnitude is for the combined stars. When there are lots of niggles like this, people tend to just revert the whole lot. Thanks for the comments. Formerly, the entry for Betelguese didn't have anything at all under absolute magnitude. So even if the figure is slightly off, it's still better than what we had before. If it's incorrect, my hope is that someone would fix it, and at the same time fix the starbox on the Betelguese page, which is where I got the data. On the Rho Cas page, the distance was recently changed from 12,000 LY, so that's why I changed it on this page. For the more casual observer, VV Cep appears as a single point of light having a mag. of 4.91, so again, I think that entry is an improvement over what we had before (which was nil). But if someone wants to elaborate on the fact that that's actually a combined magnitude, of course they may. Niobrara (talk) 18:25, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
