Paloma Pedrero edit

You did some extensive work on the Paloma Pedrero article. I am trying to disambiguate the link to "director". Can you please check that I disambiguated correctly to theatre director (as opposed to film director or television director)? Thanks. Rossami 23:08, 17 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Yes, theatre director is correct. Thanks! Ngb 16:24 07 Nov 2004 (GMT)

Cut and paste / Naming conventions edit

You appear to have done a cut-and-paste move from The Basque Ball to La pelota vasca. Is this accurate? If so:

  1. Why have you moved a work with a well-known English-language title to a foreign-language title? Doesn't that go against Wikipedia:Naming_conventions#Use_English_words?
  2. I can't imagine any reason for a cut-and-paste move, which separates the history from the article. For now, I will try to remedy the cut-and-paste move; I actually think the article should be back at the old title, but I don't want an edit war over this.

Jmabel | Talk 18:54, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

The cut-and-paste rather than move was a mistake rather than an intention -- I'd overlooked the functionality the system provides for moving pages. So thanks for fixing that; it certainly wasn't my intention to orphan the page's history.

As to the location of the page, I have deliberately gone against the Naming Conventions in this case for a specific reason: uniformity of titling within the work of one Director. Not all of Medem's films are widely known to English speakers (only La pelota vasca and Lucía y el sexo are widely recognised, I would say), so it makes sense to leave his earlier films with their original Spanish titles. But I think it's then confusing if the later films are indexed under English titles. So what I've done is to have all the articles for Medem's films under the foreign-language title, with the English-language title or equivalent redirected to the foreign-language article. This way, hopefully, everyone's happy: there's consistency in the way the articles are titled, and the article can be accessed (and searched for) under both an English and a Spanish title.

--Nick Boalch 21:46, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

(I should say, additionally, on the naming issue, that I personally do not agree with the Wikipedia policy on this: I think texts such as novels, films and so on should be titled as they were originally, with English-language versions linked to the original. But I accept that that's what the policy is, and I wouldn't go against it without good reason; but I do think that's what there is in this case. --Nick Boalch 22:52, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Image:Pedrero.png edit

Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:Pedrero.png. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, – Quadell (talk) (help) 12:42, Dec 29, 2004 (UTC)

Ugh. I can't actually remember where I got it from now. :( It may be wisest to delete it, and I will try to find another source with verifiable licensing? --Ngb 19:28, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Do you think you could possibly sort out your differences with other users on the article's talk page, rather than constantly reverting everyone else's edits? I have no opinion on the matter myself, just noticing the beginnings of a revert war. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 19:19, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Sorry just noticed that you had prompted a discussion on the talk page. Many apologies. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 19:21, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)
No problem! --Ngb 19:28, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I would like to revive Spanish Translation of the Week. Are you interested in working on it? — J3ff 05:59, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I really am. I'm sorry that other things sapped my attention from it before. --Ngb 09:09, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Olvera Streeet image edit

Hello. I'm not sure if you are aware of it or not but your image of Olvera Street could soon be deleted. -Da 'Sco Mon 00:54, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know about the possible deletion of Image:Olvera_st_los_angeles.jpg. Unfortunately I am not prepared to relicense the image for unrestricted commercial use, so it looks like it will end up being deleted. --Ngb 08:55, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Calvin and Hobbes images: fair use? edit

I notice that you added [[Image:Calvin & Hobbes - Calvin.png]] and [[Image:Calvin & Hobbes - Hobbes.png]] to the Calvin and Hobbes article. You tagged them as fair use, but didn't provide a justification for their fair use according to the guidelines in Wikipedia:Fair use. I am concerned that those images might not actually qualify under fair use principles. Please take a look at the guidelines and either add your justification or tag them to be deleted, as appropriate. Thanks! Alanyst 29 June 2005 19:15 (UTC)

Hi Alanyst, thanks for the heads up. It was my understanding that images cropped from cartoons and with their resolution reduced (as these are) were suitable for fair use, but reading the Wikipedia:Fair use guidelines you point to I can find no mention of this (they seem to be mostly concerned with photographs). Given this, perhaps they should be tagged to be deleted. --Ngb 29 June 2005 22:39 (UTC)

Moved part of your discussion on the Cricket match VfD edit

Hi. I moved your back-and-forth with Bryan Derksen to that VfD's talk page, as it was basically a side discussion to the main issue. Cheers. -- BD2412 talk June 30, 2005 16:23 (UTC)

Hi, just to let you know that the list of UK participants at the UK notice board was getting rather long, so I have replaced it with the above category which I have added to your user page. -- Francs2000 | Talk   30 June 2005 20:30 (UTC)

WfD vandals edit

I think it's time to put protection back on. It would be good to leave it there for at least 24 hours this time, IMO. Your previous contrained effort was quickly jettisoned by anons and sockpuppets once you unprotected. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 00:25, 2005 August 23 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for your comments. I also want to congratulate you on your Adminship- nice work! ral315 22:19, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for working on the backlog of copyright issues. However there is one file I have a quesiton about. Image:Crosstar color.gif is part of a series of images uploaded by user:Crosstar, apparently the copyright holder. At the time he granted a license for their use (not GFDL-compatible, BTW). He used the images to illustrate a set of articles about himself and his organization. He decided he didn't like Wikipedia when articles began to be edited for POV and verifiability, so he started blanking the images and articles. Finally, he declared victory and posting a mostly-fictitious account of his legal victory over Wikipedia on his website. See: [1] and the August 2 discussion of image:Crosstar3.gif that is in this old diff.[2] Also, Image:Crosstar.jpeg and Image:Crosstar3.gif, with their discussion pages. That's the background. I thought we'd annotated all of the images, but it looks like we missed this one. Your own edit summary seemed to confirm the validity of the fair use, but then you deleted the image, so I'm not sure if I misunderstood your action. Thanks, -Willmcw 20:42, August 29, 2005 (UTC)

Replied on Willmcw's talk page.
Boy, I do feel like a fool. Because of the way the image shows up in the diff, [3], it appeared to me as if you'd deleted it. Never mind...

This is not at all to be snotty, but you might take your own advice and assume good faith on my part. Nowhere did I specifically accuse you of puritanism or anything else. -Seth Mahoney 22:10, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

If that's the kind of game we're gonna play, how else am I supposed to take your nomination, except as motivated by a conscious or unconscious puritanism? Really, though, I was responding to the other voters (and other CfD votes, for that matter) as much as to the nomination itself. -Seth Mahoney 17:33, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
Glad to know that someone else is working to fight against censorship on the wiki. I know of a couple other people who agreed with you in voting delete and are also usually against censorship, too, and I can see good reasons for doing so, so, you know, if that's where you usually are, then snide as it may have been, my comment wasn't for you. -Seth Mahoney 19:01, September 7, 2005 (UTC)

Tube map station images edit

OKay, I'll register them all for deletion in that case. I really wasn't sure what the best way of going about this was and enlisted the help of an admin who has helped me out in the past User:Rbrwr. See the messages I have left on his talk page and the messages he has left on mine. Greaterlondoner

Okay. I didn't intentionally upload images with copyright violations. I'll be extra careful from now on. Greaterlondoner

Hi. i took the picture myself and it's a "donation" to wikipedia. what do i need to do in order to correct it? tks. Joao

Hi again. So what would be my choice for uploading a picture with the following rules: free to use for any purpose. if used, the author should always be mentioned. (this is, no one can claim the picture was taken by them). Thanks!! (BTW, it looks like the picture was deleted. how can i revert that? or do I need to upload it again?) Double thanks.

List of territories by population revert war edit

I'm awfully sorry, but the discussion degenerated and a revert war just started over at List of territories by population... I tried being polite but there is always someone with big persecution complexes giving adjectives to other people. What should I do now? Am I wrong in trying to include the EU in the list? Or is someone else wrong in underestimating it? The preceding unsigned comment was added by Giandrea (talk • contribs) 03:45, 1 February 2006.
