Dragonfly list

Thanks for your suggestions regarding List of Dragonfly species recorded in Britain. Could you tell me which particular items of text you think ought not to be in bold font? Mumbai

I'm having a dispute with a user on the definition of 'Mumbai'. (Template Talk:Mumbai infobox). Mumbai is defined by the two districts. This area is called the Mumbai metropolis. A city/metropolis in India is defined by a municipality. He cites the MMRDA website (see the map). [MMRDA is a state govt. initiative, not a municipality].

Unfortunately the term "Mumbai" is not used at all outside the municipal limits as defined on the Mumbai page, and is not considered a part of the city by anyone of us here, or by residents in those area, (New Bombay/Kalyan etc.). =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:13, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Nichalp, can you fix up the Hindi wikibook a bit? For example http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Hindi:Basic_Hindi contains links to pictures of the words instead of just having the devangari written there. If you could fix that, that would be great. Even better would be to record sound samples, but that would be asking a lot. Or maybe you would know someone that would like to help with that? I am just starting to learn Hindi, starting with learning the alphabet, and I found our Hindi material is not very good so far. Our Hindi article doesn't even have the devangari for all the consonants. It will depend on how you define London - see London#Defining London - but I would generally call those areas home counties and not London: however, parts of the traditional counties are now in Greater London or within the M25. -- ALoan (Talk) 15:10, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

Agreed - just be specific about which "London" you are talking about: City of London (the extremely central "square mile") is likely to be too narrow, as is Inner London. Belgium

I have made a lot of changes within Belgium most according to your suggestions.

• I think reducing more the before independence section would be too much. It is important in this section to keep a NPOV and treat all periods of time on a same neutral footing. We cannot only pick out the parts of history which seem to lead to the building of a Belgian, Flemish or whatever nation (as was done in the past -- see discussion about why Belgium is not featured anymore).
• Don't you think this is a matter of taste whether the subtitles in Culture and Before Independence are kept or not. I personally have the feeling they really help the reader.
• I have separated the section communities, regions and provinces from politics. This section can definitively not be merged with Geography. It can be with politics but not geography because the territoriality of the Communities is not that simple. OK. Now the introduction seems ok to me. Belgium is a small country with high population density in the middle of Western Europe. Second Belgium is characterised by two languages and the resulting conflicts and complicated history and institutions. Well I don't think the history of the name is that interesting: it must be mentioned but not here. If I well understand what you mean, you are looking for something which could make the intro a bit appealing. I thought about the following but I have the feeling that's not that politically correct:

With regard to the redlinks, if you would like something done about those, I think you should probably make these comments to Dsdmgold not to me, as it is his idea that the list be nominated for promotion to Featured List status. I am happy to make changes to the list page to improve it for readability etc, and if these also help it to become a featured list, that's good. Flag of Belarus FAC

To answer your concerns:

• I moved some of the material around to where the current flag and it's information is fist, then you have the historical flags afterwards
• Use since 1991 has been changed to 1995 to reflect the year it was replaced
• I removed the brackets
• I added the meaning of the colors. While the meaning of the green did not change, the meaning of the red color did changed slightly. The red in the BySSR flag stood for the revolution, the current flag used red to symbolize the armies of the past defending Belarus.
• I have no clue what the flags are made out of, since I do not know what the law requires (if at all).

Independence? Nope. I have heard some about movements for more autonomy, though. There is for example the Ruch Autonomii Śląska (Movememt for the Silesian Autonomy). Unfortunately, their English webpage seems 404, so there is only Polish and German (see link). Nick, There are another article called Krishna Janmaashtami which talks about Janmashtami from a South Indian perspective. The names Gokulashtami, Sreekrishna jayanti (incorrectly mentioned in the article as Sree jayanti) are terms used in the South. Yes, there is VAT on goods imported from outside the EU - as the article says VAT is generally charged at the border, at the same time as customs duty when goods enter the EU from other states. Castella de Aguada

Sorry not to answer. I've just arrived home. Castle by the Sea would be in Portuguese (if you are talking about Portuguese language) would be "Castelo à beira mar" ou "castelo do mar". Castella is probably an arcaic word for a fortress (fortaleza). Castle is "castelo" (male) or castello (old Portuguese), castella (female) would mean "small castle".

Aguada is a provision of drinkable water for sea-travels or a place where you can get water, it is also the name of a Brazilian tree. "De" means "of" (neutral) so it is the "Castle of Aguada".

It surelly is a small castle that has a relation with water.

sea = mar (from Latin mare) water = água (from Latin aqua) castle= castelo (from Latin Castellu) maritime =marítimo (from Latin maritimu) ocean = oceano (from Latin Oceanu)

• well, there isnt the "ll"/"lh" sound in English, maybe that sound is the closest English has, I dont known. The Spanish "ll" is the Portuguese "lh" and the Italian "gl". Tamil FAs

Yeah. It's unfortunate that India is not featured in Tamil Wikipedia. UK got the focus there as it came in the news section. I'll try and translate the remaining sections of "culture" and "demographics" before nominating it for FA status. As for Tamil Nadu, it is almost only a translation + cleanup of the current English article. It could easily become a FA there as the bar is quite low. Doing that here would require a lot of effort. Fair use vs public domain

Hi! I want to scan a picture of a former Indian sports star. Our newspaper has published a photo of him, but the photo is pre-1945, which means copyrights to the original photo have expired. Keep in mind that I am not a lawyer, just someone who is interested in copyright law. That said, if the copyright has expired, and your scan is as accurate as possible, and you don't pick up any of the surrounding newspaper text, and India law is similar to that of the US, then the image is in the public domain. --Carnildo 18:12, 29 August 2005 (UTC)

Are you sure pre-1945 means the copyright expired? Is that by law in India? Following US law, items before 1945 may have expired, but we wouldn't know for sure unless we looked up to see if they renewed their copyright (they had to back then). Only things 1923 and before are guaranteed to have expired. If it has expired then it's definitely PD. DreamGuy 19:23, August 29, 2005 (UTC)

Regarding your post on my talk page, I don't even know that the law in India makes that much difference, as the servers are in the United States. The important question is its copyright status here, not elsewhere. Also keep in mind that you are asking about copyright on sometihng before 1945 and referring to a 1957 law, which isn't important. However, for the media section, I am inclined to see it as culturally related, given that the section deals with stations and their contents rather than their transmission equipment and coverage area (unless you could give me a very good reason why the section, in its current state, should be in infrastructure).
