Dear Nichalp, I've had a successful RfA with a final tally of 50-0-0 which would not have been possible without support from you both during RfA and before that, with various acts, both directly and indirectly through fora such as WP:INWNB.

You and Sundar were the people I looked up to when I was first here - Bhadani and Pamri soon joined the ranks. I will feel free to bug you with doubts I hv about my new role. Thanks a ton, --Gurubrahma 07:25, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sanket Alekar edit

Hi, I noticed this page was up on Wikipedia recently. I'm pretty sure that this page is prank. No book called Freaking out in Fergusson exists. I know this because I study in Fergusson, and I know Sanket Alekar personally (he's a bit of a prankster). I tried to mark it for deletion, and found that you had already nominated it for deletion once. I'm removing my AfD notice, because I really don't know what to do with an article that already has an archived AfD page from a previous deletion. Can you please let me know what you think should be done? --Kunal (talk) 15:13, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Happy birth day edit

BD2412's RFA edit

Nichalp, thank you for supporting my RfA - I know it's not quite over yet, but I have 132 more people to thank after you (presuming no one else votes in the next half hour!), so I'm getting a head start. I hope to live up to your expectations, and to help make a reality of the dream of Wikipedia! BD2412 T 23:37, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sanket Alekar edit

Hi Nichalp. I downloaded the Wikimedia upload tool [1] using the link on your homepage. I've tried using it a lot of times, but it doesn't seem to work. It says it has uploaded the images, but the images are not found on wikimedia. Am I doing something wrong, or is it that the tool doesn't work any more? Thanks! deeptrivia (talk) 04:08, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

The article you asked me to protect edit

Done. :) Btw, it's not something a regular user can do. Regular users can add the {{deletedpage}} tag but they cannot protect it so it's not recreated. Thanks for letting me know. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 05:28, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Nicholas, could you revisit your comment on this page and let me know if the problem is now fixed? If not, and you can see how to fix it yourself, I'd be grateful. Many thanks, jguk 09:22, 10 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Question: edit

Hi,

You've probably never heard of me before, (or if you have, I'm extremely surprised!), but you commented on one of my FA nominations a while back. After it failed, I've desperately been trying to remedy all the wrongs in the article. But one fault you pointed out was: "The ToC is granulated". What the hey does that mean? Please explain as I would love to get my article to the main page. Plus congrats on your birthday, even if it was nearly a week ago.... Regards, Spawn Man 07:49, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

My RfA edit

Nicholas, thanks for voting at my RfA. I was very surpised at the turnout - it's odd that you can put hours and hours into this thing, and interact with dozens of people, but never really be sure how aware others are of yourself.

Oh, and I just got back from a pleasant morning at the WACA and I can assure you that the Aussies are fairly safe - barring rain tomorrow. Ponting will probably declare in the next half hour or so setting a target of about 480 in a day and a bit. -- Iantalk 06:44, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

refining new goals edit

who defines the Top level priority? looking at the history, it seems that you play a part. india's featured articles seem a little dry at the moment. there is a distinct lack of articles related to contemporary indian culture. what is there to show that india's culture is alive & kicking as opposed to stale & dead? even the page on mumbai shows little evidence of living culture. why isn't bollywood a Top level priority? i'd like the world to know more about modern india. for balance perhaps top priority show go to articles about; 'the changing attitudes to sex in india'. other Regional notice boards are more balanced. the irish are working on Father_Ted. the japanese on Education_in_Japan. U.S._Southern on Hurricane_Camille etc. what we need are more FAs that that would make an interesting Today's featured article. surely Top level priority should goto more articles with worldwide popular appeal to balance all the dry articles? re: deletion of Oven Rack Guard edit

Hi Nichalp, I read several Wikipedia passages about deletion resolution, so I hope I'm going about this correctly. My article on the cool touch "oven rack guard" was deleted and also deleted from the articles on Ovens and Nomex. The reason for deletion was advertisement. I concede that putting a link to the manufacture's homepage was tempting fate, on the otherhand, the rest of the article regarding the use and construction/physics of the invention is unique and notable. If you can find another invention/device that does the same thing (not oven gloves), I will readily agree with the deletion. The cool touch oven rack guard makes unique use of 2 properties of nomex. I wouldn't have submitted the article if it spoke about the typical use of Nomex, as a great thermal insulator (something every fire fighter knows). Please reread the article "minus" the link to the manufacture's webpage. Please tell me what would be needed to get this technical article back into wikipedia. Sincerely, Burt H. Shulman

Wikipedia is not meant for promotional purposes. If you can get valid, independent and notable sources for the device, then it can exist on wikipedia. The tone is also important: it must not unnecessarily promote the product. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:33, 22 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

hi Nichalp, I guess it's now a question of what is a valid independant and notable source. could you outline the proceedure for undeleting, if you find the following sources sufficient. do i need to make reference to these sources?? in the article, also how does the editing to remove the website info and the undelete come together properly.

also, the invention was given the Cooking Club of America Award, on the jaz Innovations web page

and It was written about in the May 2004 issue of reader digest. pg. 204 none of the above references were advertisements for the invention, they were independent reviews (one has the approx price mentioned).

You'd have to describe the material etc and how it works. The references you provided do not say much on the product. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:17, 23 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Nichalp edit

Your argument in favor of Bachman is OK because that is your choice but to trash all of us in the process is ....! Cannot find words to describe your behavior. Bachman says Gita was written after Ashoka. Ashok coined the word Dharma (not Dhamma mind you). Repeatedly told he is wrong but no he insists he is right. Also he is clueless about rajput history. He searched internet, found a few titles with word rajput in it and started pushing those as references, though he did not bother to read single book he is pushing. If this is scholarly what would be unscholarly?

Anyway I posted something on Gurubrahma's talk page in response to you when you were praising Zora. Why is that you just like taking sides with the ilk of Zora and dab? Not that I care much about your behavior but objectvitiy and being logical is key before you go and trash someone. Shivraj Singh 05:34, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Shivraj, I've stated what I've seen. Xenophobic because of the refusal of us editors to accept that there are non Indians who may have an unbiased or updated perspective. Myopic because of the fact that people refuse to accept the fact that newer and possibly better theories emerge every year.
Nichalp. You are using words which are sweeping generalizations. If you fundamentally believe that western research is better then ours and our history by our people will always be inferior, then there is little to talk with you.
But such a view point shows me the subjugation of your thinking process to that of cultural slave. British, though, were kicked out of India but there legacy still runs through the minds of Indians who really operate as slaves. Unless a westener puts his stamp of approval it does not become gospel. Grow out of it.
All these so called opponents of mine are saying my references are invalid. In my book this is xenophobhia in there minds. I have read each one of these books. Your friends are pushing references that they googled and DID not read a single page from these books. And you have the guts to support this group. You should be ashamed of calling yourself an Indian.

I've read school history books written by Indian and non-Indian authors. Indian authors are usually dictated by political idealogies and reeks of a tacit bias. Foreign editors are more subdued, but lack the bias. (Recall the Shivaji incident where Shiv Sainks went on the rampage). From the Rajput talk page (posted 09:24, 22 December 2005 (UTC)), dab has challenged you to provide a credible reference. A published book with an ISBN number is more credible that an online resource. Books are copyedited and reviewed before publishing, websites are not. If you can post a credible reference and not personally attack dab for being Swiss, I think you would have gained some respectability. The same applies to Zora. I've have differences with the two in the past, but we've never allowed it to go personal. I've been in their boat. I've been accused of having an anti-Hindu bias just because I removed an image of a temple that was a copyviolation. I've been accused of being anti-Marathi, because I deleted an article on a book whose existence was suspect. From the RFC, it looks like only sockpuppets seem to endorse the summary. Take my suggestion seriously, learn more about the wikisystem. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:49, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

You are way of base again in assuming westerners are unbiased. Look at algorithms, numerals, etc. Donald Knuth from Stanford mentions that pythagoras did not discover that theorem. Which is what Indians beleive. But try to change this attribution on WP. It is a fact that Arabs had nothing to do with Hindu numerals. Look at the fight on WP on Arabic numerals. List is long.
Sad thing is India is not doing a good job in educating Indians. Otherwise I would not have to argue with you.
Many of my references have ISBN's. Have you read the rajput page I last saved? Rest of ISBN's will be posted as soon as I get to my library.
Your support of dab is just unacceptable. Shivraj Singh 07:10, 25 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
If you fundamentally believe that western research is better then ours and our history by our people will always be inferior,
I never said that. It is you who unfortunately assumed so. I've stated that Indian history books are often coloured by political idealogies. I've read the class 12 college history text book (Maharashtra; Arts stream) and it reeks of an anti-Mughal, pro-Maratha bias.
Unless a westener puts his stamp of approval it does not become gospel. Grow out of it.
Grow out of it?? I'm afraid but your choice of words are a little condescending. I am trying to tell you that it is possible from a western point of view, history may be somewhat neutral. I'm not taking sides, I'm asking you to cite your references to support your claim. I also know that many Indian authors refuse to bow down to political painting.
But such a view point shows me the subjugation of your thinking process to that of cultural slave
You have already been warned for ad hominem attacks. Please go through Wikipedia:No personal attacks and desist from doing the same. If you continue to personally attack wikipedians, you might be hard banned. So in the interest of the Indian wikipedian community, please desist from doing so least we all get a bad name.
Your friends are pushing references that they googled
Do you have proof? Can you challenge them to quote the page numbers?
Look at the fight on WP on Arabic numerals
Have you read my comments there? Arabs were responsible for transferring the numerals from India to Europe. Hindu numerals will be confused with Devanagiri numerals.
Sad thing is India is not doing a good job in educating Indians.
You've finally come to the crux of the matter.
Your support of dab is just unacceptable.
You're entitled to have your own opinion. But in the best interests of the wikipedian community, you don't seem to be cooperating too much to end the fiasco.
You should be ashamed of calling yourself an Indian.
You hardly know of my work around here. I really don't have to show you my credentials. Stick around for a few months, learn about the wikiprocess and contribute in a more fruitful manner is the best advice I can give you.

I have no interest in the Rajput controversy, but I am appealing to you to cooperate with the other editors and end the mindless bickering. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:48, 26 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
