June thanks edit

Thank you for improving articles in June, with some impressions of places, flowers and music for you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:21, 20 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

July corner edit

On DYK today, two songs, a morning song that a cousin gave to me, about the many meanings of rising, and the other praying for the courage to take the necessary steps. The morning song is a GA, - I should write more given my initials, but I also want to care for articles of those who recently died (now Esther Béjarano). - Thank you for improving articles in July, - I come a few days earlier than normally because the bloom is fading already ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:01, 16 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gerda Arendt, thanks so much for the July songs, they really lifted me up! I hope you are well. I was so saddened to learn about the floods in Germany and nearly countries. I hope you are well and also your friends, family and loved ones, and pets, too. I fear that the world is doing too little too late about climate disruption and change. I was in tears this morning with Eco-grief. Sorry to hear about Esther. What a service to the community to care for these articles. Be well, dear Gerda, and thank you for that lovely fox glove photo. I have always loved the name of that flower, as well as it's strong "backbone" and vibrant hue. Netherzone (talk) 00:02, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for understanding! Love that "backbone" aspect! Did you know that Vivaldi composed cello sonatas? I didn't until I took the pic. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:37, 21 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Georgina Baillie wikilink - slight return edit

Hi Netherzone Sorry to drag this up again, but it appears there is an IP editor who shares your views on this issue: [[1]][[2]]

I don't *think* it's you - it doesn't seem your general style - but I thought I might as well, as the police say, make a routine enquiry - if nothing else, to eliminate you from investigations.

Hope you are well.Romomusicfan (talk) 14:11, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Romomusicfan, Hi and hope you are well too. It's not me, wrong continent - I'm more than 3000 miles away from where that IP geolocates! And yes your correct, it's not my style at all. Even though you and I disagreed about G.B. on the WiPR article, I would never act out in a harmful way. I haven't fully read thru the cases you linked, but do you remember several years ago, there was a "phantom over linker" on the WiPR article? It took me hours to sort through it all, and was a messy clean up. I'll see if I can find their IP address in article history, if I do, I'll ping you in another message. I seem to remember it was Eastern Europe, for some reason. Until then, The Netherzone (talk) 18:27, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I decided in the end to let you have your way on the WIPR article link as long as it didn't extend from there (as I feared it might) to removing links to GB's redirect on other pages where wikilinking was necessary to explain her significance. So when I found this person had been unlinking GB it did ring an alarm bell.Romomusicfan (talk) 18:49, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Romomusicfan, Just saw this note from you, and thought I'd respond so that you and I don't have a misunderstanding moving forward. You had pinged an admin who was involved with GB long before our difference of opinion on the link in the WiPR article. I've copied it below. If I remember he and I agreed that "when in doubt do no harm" so it remained unlinked in the article. Please forgive the long talk quote in advance.
Asking for an opinion from the person who originally created the redirect.:::::@ Scott MacDonald - you originally created the Georgina Baillie redirect in October 2008. Penny for your thoughts re the above points? ^^^ Romomusicfan (talk) 17:21, 23 March 2021 (UTC) (reply) It was 100 years ago. I didn't "create the redirect". What I did was move an article that someone created "about her" to being an article about Brandt and his antics. If she was notable for her music and art (and I've no clue about that) then a biography on her might be appropriate - but if the notability is really Brant's misbehaviour that should not justify an article on the hapless victim. Beyond that, I'm not active here anymore to know what the current standards are. But, if in doubt, do no harm. Associating a victim with the abuse should only be done where it is clearly justified. If in doubt, don't. (I'm so inactive, I don't even know how to sign this anymore) Unsigned comment by Scott MacDonald Thanks Scott MacDonald, I think the attempts to create a page were done some time in the late Noughties mainly on account of her work in burlesque (which clearly didn't pass the notability threshold). The issue is whether it is appropriate (as has been done on quite a fair number of articles where she is mentioned for whatever reason) to wikilink to the redirect as a shorthand to the reader to explain who this Georgina Baillie person is and why she is significant enough to warrant a mention. To be fair, the "Sachsgate" article does contain a specific section on her music and particularly on some of her better known specific works - Rubber Medusa, Gun In Your Pocket - which relate to the whole episode. I'm not pushing any more for the reinstatement of the link on the actual Women in Punk Rock article but I would still defend its wider use on Wikipedia of which, as I said, there is plenty. 01:31, 26 March 2021 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Romomusicfan (talk • contribs) Scott MacDonald thank you for your kind response. I agree that when in doubt, do no harm; and that it is not necessary to revictimize someone who has been abused. Pinging Romomusicfan so they understand your take on it. Cheers, Netherzone (talk) 18:36, 25 March 2021 (UTC) (reply)
Moving forward, I still think there is enough coverage out there on GB that a stand alone article on her musicianship might be sustainable (which could include a section on the Russell Brand affair.) If you are interested, we could collaborate on it together. If you have other priorities, I understand. Or put the link back in WiPR if you feel really strongly about it. Either way, I'm definitely not the editor(s) who recently linked or unlinked anything re: GB, I haven't even thought about the matter after March. Netherzone (talk) 22:45, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
There's a discussion thread on the talk page for that article on Sachsgate about the possibility of creating a Georgina Baillie article. Generally the problem has been finding multiple independent sources about her career that do not focus mostly on Sachsgate. If there were another two or three more examples like this then she would pass WP:GNG - unfortunately AFAIK there is only that one source.Romomusicfan (talk) 00:47, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Re. the link - at the time I decided to leave the matter alone as I could understand you might feel that a link to an individual's history as a victim of abuse was antithetical to creating the WIPR article as a celebration of positive female creativity. However, I decided, I would take a stronger view were she to be unlinked from, say, Fiona_Bevan#Poussez_Posse, The Featherz, Jack Bond (director), Adam Ant Is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner's Daughter, Spizzenergi, Salvation Group, Nigel Wingrove etc etc as in these cases the link is needed in order to explain her significance and relevance to the subjects of those articles. Romomusicfan (talk) 00:59, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Romomusicfan, I'm glad you sent this info, as I'm not really very familiar with her work as a musician other than knowing she worked with a lot of bands. What you have presented here would be a good start in developing a draft article on her. I'm willing to get a stub started. Where I will need your help and expertise is figuring out which UK press/newspapers are reliable and which are tabloids/junk. So your research skills will really be great, and if you can point me to a few sources... and if you have a sense of chronology. The stuff with Adam Ant might have coverage, as well as the fact that she is (?) currently an actress and had a career in burlesque. Netherzone (talk) 01:26, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also, perhaps we should try to shoot for getting her past WP:BASIC which is a slightly lower bar than GNG to start with. Thanks for the Louder than War link! Netherzone (talk) 01:30, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Romomusicfan, I made a sandbox to start an article. Here is the link if you wish to contribute to it: User:Netherzone/sandbox/Georgina Baillie Cheers mate, The Netherzone (talk) 01:53, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Romomusicfan Hello again, There was a phantom overlinker on Women in punk rock on June 27 of this year using this ip: 146.212.178.131 -- however the really bad overlinker was ip 90.157.130.130 from January 3, 2020. You might want to add those to the reports if their behavior matches the recent ip. Netherzone (talk) 18:32, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
More info, both of these IP's geolocate to Slovenia - two different towns, Logatec and Ljubljana respectively. Netherzone (talk) 18:40, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
The person I've been reporting on seems to be more into removing links.Romomusicfan (talk) 18:42, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
... and not even discussing their reasons with other editors. Romomusicfan (talk) 18:51, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I looked at some of their contributions in the sockpuppet report. It seems they have an ax to grind in certain topics, yet other edits seem more random, or are just an opinion tacked onto an article. It's an odd behavioral mix between vandalism, boredom and a little WP:CIR. They definitely do not seem to be here to build an encyclopedia. Walter Askin Draft - Thank You! edit

Dear Netherzone,

Thank you for your edits to the Walter Askin draft. The changes are great. Do you work as a mentor? Would you be interested in mentoring me?

STBarnard (talk) 16:05, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

STBarnard, Hello and thanks for your message. I'm not officially a "mentor" however I've been editing Wikipedia for nearly 10 years and am familiar with the policies, guidelines and Manual of Style. I do edit in the area of visual arts quite a bit, and have expertise in that topic. I'm happy to help you with any questions, and if I cannot answer them, I will try to point you in the right direction or guide you to someone who may know the answer. Gerda's September corner edit

September songs

Omas gegen Rechts - enjoy strong women! I thought of Yoninah on the first day of Rosh Hashanah. - Thank you for hook help! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:49, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rich Main page today: the first TFA by a promising author, the pictured DYK by my friend LouisAlain who is discouraged by an AN discussion, and one of the Recent deaths. Enjoy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:03, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for beautiful photos and strong women! Remembering Yoninah and all she did for the encyclopedia. Yesterday was a terrific Main page, bravo! I'm sorry to hear that LouisAlain is still having a rough time, and really hope things turn around for him. Enjoy the beautiful autumn weather; there is no better inspiration than nature! I still have an abundance of tomatoes in my little garden, and have been pickling jalapeno peppers - so many peppers from four little plants! Netherzone (talk) 13:48, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Enjoy your harvest! Today's Main page has Leo Kestenberg, created by LouisAlain. Terrible prospect to miss biographies like that if he was driven away. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:59, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
today: the day of bold red and black, for Dante who died 700 years ago, and Peter Fleischmann who died recently, leaving us films full of vision. Dante: just heard Inferno, imagined by a woman, the main character both speaking and singing with an inner 4-part voice! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:01, 14 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
today: moar music, Beethoven, and my brother was in the orchestra, 10 July --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:31, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you dear Gerda, for bold black and red, I love those colors together! Your posts fill me with delight, esp. these last 2 weeks when I'm back at my "day job" in person. I need all these reminders to remember to pay attention to nature, to listen to music, to look at art, to embrace these wonderful cultural communities even though the daily patterns have changed. Be well Gerda, I love looking at your photos of food, and of course the articles, DYKs and more. I've learned alot from you about classical music, I'm grateful for those gifts! Netherzone (talk) 23:06, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for improving articles in September, - a good harvest! You know that green dominates my talk right now, thank you especially for help in that case! I just voted in our federal election. - You are not involved in the infoboxes wars, I believe. I thought they were over in 2018. Now we have Mahler's Eighths. What do you think? On Peace Day, Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Glad I could help out on that article. Green, harvest, nature, healing, all good things to be grateful for! Thankfully, I did not get involved in the infobox wars - I use them in most of the articles I create and find them useful and in the role of the reader. When I first got serious about editing WP, I attended several in-person edit-a-thons, (including the first Art+Feminism one!) which was where I learned about inboxes and how they are a good place to start structuring an article. So they have never seemed like something to go to war over. I'm glad to have not gotten involved in the war/drama. Sounds like it dragged on for a long time, and from the discussion on M's8th, there are strong opinions. I will have to read deeper into it to better understand what is going on there. Hope you have a peaceful day - long live absolute world peace! - Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World -- Netherzone (talk) 12:56, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your green thoughts! Don't waste time studying the infobox wars which began in 2005, and silently ended in 2018, or so I thought. There was an arbcase in 2013, in which I was found guilty of battleground behaviour (with no evidence), but all my (mild) restrictions were over by 2015. There was another arbcase about civility in such discussions but I wasn't a party any more (although my name was called often enough). For some, I will probably forever remain the person wanting infoboxes where they don't want them. Sadly, some of them are early recipients of Precious. Brian Boulton was a generous soul who included me in the FAC for Messiah (Handel) written with Tim riley. Brian came to my talk right after the first arbcase with a compromise suggestion for operas (L'Arianna, and another for persons (#Another experiment, about Percy Grainger). In 2019, I was the one to whom he passed the references for the Vespers which he had accumulated, knowing that he would not get to it, - he died little later. It was the greatest legacy I ever felt on my shoulders, and I was hapy when it passed for FA, and appeared on 1 September 2020, a year after our concert on the day of Monteverdi's dedication to the pope. - Now about the 8th: Brian took it to FA in 2010, an infobox was added by an IP in 2017, so while Brian was alive, and was stable as long as he lived, until Tim riley returned to the FA status without, on 1 January 2020. I didn't notice any of that. I noticed the article - and it's lack of an infobox - on 12 September when it was in the OTD section of the Main page, and gave it one knowing that Brian would not have minded, and what followed is in the recent article history and on the talk. Brian wrote an article about infoboxes in the Signpost in 2013, and RexxS wrote one about considerations regarding infoboxes, - I think reading those two documents (links on my user page) would be a better use of your time than reading the mountains of words wasted in teh wars. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:29, 21 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Today: a woman in red (back to the beginning of the thread), two who died under "in memoriam" and LouisAlain missed - my first editnotice read: "Every editor is a human being" which is quoted from a comment by Geometry guy in a 2012 discussion on WP:AN. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:57, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for starting and sharing the article on Monika Salzer a compassionate woman in red who must also be a fabulous dancer! I was sad to see the outcome for LouisAlain, as he did a lot of good for WP and our readers. I hope he decides to appeal to come back in the future once the sting wears off. Netherzone (talk) 17:46, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Why should he even want to appeal? Work in a community as we are? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:51, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
I suppose you are right, why would he want to come back, but still I hope he does. He did so many translations for enWP; he is obviously a good faith editor. It saddens me to see us lose people like that. None of us are perfect. I'm sorry you have lost several of your good friends here, Gerda. Netherzone (talk) 18:42, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello Carptrash/Einar, nice to get your message, (do you prefer one name over the other?). I was surprised to see an article like Pedimental sculptures in Canada up for deletion. I hope it is kept, as it's useful to our readership, IMO, I'm glad a lot of people are waying in on the AfD. Thanks for sharing about your daughter - that is so cool that her PhD is on women in punk rock! Kindred spririts, hurray for strong women! Good to "meet" you here, and see you around. The World Renewable Energy Association (WoREA) edit

Hi. Many thanks for your reply and feedback. Firstly, I'm new to this so apologies for any confusion regarding any possible advertising infringements. I am simply attempting to add WoREA to the list of renewable energy organisations page. No intention to promote it or advertise any services. Please advise with thanks.— Preceding unsigned comment added by WoRenewables (talkcontribs)

Hello WoRenewables Thank you for your message. Before the World Renewable Energy Association (WoREA) could be added to an article like the List of renewable energy organizations it would need to be established that the organization is notable by Wikipedia criteria. In many cases that would mean there needs to be an article on WP first - see WP:WTAF. I also wanted to ask, do you happen to work for or have an affiliation with the World Renewable Energy Association? Netherzone (talk) 00:32, 16 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Broken Circle/Spiral Hill edit

On 29 September 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Broken Circle/Spiral Hill, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the artist Robert Smithson suggested that the boulder in the center of his piece Broken Circle/Spiral Hill was a "warning from the Ice Age"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Broken Circle/Spiral Hill. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Broken Circle/Spiral Hill), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Gerda's October corner edit

October songs

Today: #1700, and I uploaded more images, mostly blue and green, for hope. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:00, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gerda's galaxy
Gerda, have you created 1700 DYKs? If so, that is AWESOME! You are precious, and I honor you with this spiral galaxy... Netherzone (talk) 18:03, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes and no, because many - the later in time the more - were collaborations. Today's was translated by LouisAlain, and improved by Grimes2 and myself, - a great team until disrupted by administration. The spirit loves on, and the next DYK by the same team will come tomorrow, and not the last for a long time to come. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:23, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Today, mostly black&white, and standing upright as Psalm 15 says --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:07, 10 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
today: see yourself, read about a hymn praying to not be on earth in vain, about a comics artist whose characters have character (another collaboration of the "perennial gang", broken by one of us banned), and in memory of the last prima donna assoluta, Edita Gruberová. I had to go to two grave sites last week, one who died now, one who died 10 years ago, so standing upright and in black seems appropriate. More colours - but subdued - can be had on hikes, - updated. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:06, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for sharing. You are such a prolific editor! My only creation this week is a stub on a hot spring system in Japan, Akinomiya Hot Springs. I need to do more research on the springs and the larger geothermal area, but it's difficult because of the language difference. If I could hike to the hot springs now I would, but that would first require crossing the Pacific Ocean on a very long flight. ;-) Netherzone (talk) 16:25, 20 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the research, that's great invisible work! Today: a scandal, and more fall colours, including a short sermon. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:02, 24 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dragon Rock at Manitoga estate, house and studio of American designer, Russel Wright

Russel Wright, American Modern pottery line in chartreuse

Thank you Gerda for sharing this, In Freundschaft. What a beautiful gesture for Stockhausen to write this work for his friend Suzanne, and going on to modify it for others according to their requests. A lovely gift of music! (By the way, that's a wonderful photo of Suzanne Stephens.) This mornings efforts for article improvements were inspired by a trip I made last weekend to upstate New York (visiting good friends). The autumn leaves are the most magnificient colors. We took a trip to see Manitoga (Dragon Rock), the house and studio (now a museum) of the American modernist industrial designer, Russel Wright (See my photos). Hope you have a wonderful day! Netherzone (talk) 15:35, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Manitoga! Lovely memories of the hike the designer prescribed to take in a certain direction. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:37, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes! Manitoga is a fantastic orchestration of rock, water, ferns, trees, shrubs, mosses, flowering plants, and of course the miles of trails through the woods - all designed in the most sensitive manner. I think it is easy to forget what a fantastic landscape designer he was because Wright is mostly known for his houseware designs for daily use in the "modern home". He is also lesser known for his stage craft - set designs. One of my goals is to continue to improve articles on him, and equally important, create an article on his wife, Mary Wright, who is notable (and was an amazing woman in her lifetime.) I'm slowly collecting sources for this project. Netherzone (talk) 17:08, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Excellent goal! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:41, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
You are fast! Shouldn't it just by Mary Wright, as on the book cover? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:33, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad you mentioned this, as I was uncertain whether or not to name the article Mary Wright (designer) - there are a lot of Mary Wrights on Wikipedia; or Mary Small Einstein Wright which is her full name. She is almost always referred to as Mary Wright. Hopefully I'll get some additional feedback on the Women in Red Wikiproject talk page. If it is decided to change the article name, would you happen to know if an administrator needs to make that change? Netherzone (talk) 15:40, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
You can move it, and I suggest you do it, - it's the easiest way to create the redirect which we'll need anyway, and if there are objections you can always move it back into its own redirect (as long as that wasn't changed). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:10, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
The move was completed successfully and retained the history! Thank you for the suggestion, the new name is much better and more accurate per the sources. Netherzone (talk) 16:31, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have made the change from 4000 to 1200. It wasn't original research. De Article sites this as the Source. The source says this: "A total of up to 4000 people could eventually die of radiation exposure from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) accident nearly 20 years ago, an international team of more than 100 scientists has concluded." and later this: Major study findings Dozens of important findings are included in the massive report: Approximately 1000 on-site reactor staff and emergency workers were heavily exposed to high-level radiation on the first day of the accident; among the more than 200 000 emergency and recovery operation workers exposed during the period from 1986-1987, an estimated 2200 radiation-caused deaths can be expected during their lifetime. ...

The page incorrectly claimed in the references, that "The international experts have estimated that radiation could cause up to about 4000 eventual deaths among the higher-exposed Chernobyl populations, i.e., emergency workers from 1986–1987, evacuees and residents of the most contaminated areas", which I also edited to 2200, and you have not reverted. But before you do that I would like to hear a response to my objection, since as I said in the comment of the edit, I used the same source as the OP, believing he interpreted it wrong, or just skimmed over it.

Kind Regards, Arne

Hi Arne/Windows200, Thank you for your note. Please sign your posts with four tildes which will create a link to your user page and a time stamp. Tildes = ~ symbol. I think you should post your message to the article talk page instead of here so that other editors who have worked on or may be watching the article can weigh in and discuss. I noticed through an online search that there are several more recent reports and scholarly articles than the WHO report that have differing numbers. Thanks again for reaching out. Wikipedia talk:Autobiography edit

Hello, thanks for your attempt to revert a bad edit there, but the user in question made two edits and you only undid one of them. In cases like this it's better to use the reversion procedure described at Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism rather than the undo feature, which may miss edits. It's also a good idea to warn users for vandalism/test edits, with something like {{subst:Uw-vandalism2}}, as I have done at the user's talk page. Tools like RedWarn and Twinkle can be very helpful when dealing with vandalism, especially if you need to revert/warn users often. I notice from your user page and contribs that you're much more into content creation (on quite a variety of subjects), but I hope you find some of these links helpful anyway. Graham87 06:24, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Graham, Thank you for your kind message and the information and links you provided. I had seen that the editor in question had made two edits and I had considered whether or not to revert both or just the one that introduced errors. I gave them the benefit of the doubt as a new user that the first edit was an attempt to reach out and communicate; whereas the second one was obviously a mistake. I do not think they were committing vandalism. You are right that I should have placed a note on their user page, but I did not want them to think that they were being accused of doing something deliberately wrong. But I could have written a personal note about the error, and sent a welcome with helpful links. I use Twinkle, and one of the welcome templates is for new users who make non-useful first edits. Thanks for reminding me about RedWarn, I tried loading it months ago, but it seemed really buggy so I deleted it. And yes, I do like to create content, it brings me a lot of joy to make articles on notable topics that interest me! Nice to meet you here and thanks again for your message. Netherzone (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah fair enough. That talk page gets lots of people trying to use it to write autobiographies on Wikipedia, despite the instructions that strongly advise against this. Also see Wikipedia talk:Autobiography/Archive 3#In the name of all that's holy.... Only undoing one out of two or more edits of a new user is uncommon enough that if you're going to do so deliberately, you should probably specify that in the edit summary and the reasons for doing so. Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it. Netherzone (talk) 15:41, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rommel's editior edit

Hello i thank you for your concern about the north American fur trade page. i wouldn't say that it is a mistake on your part but a simple misunderstanding. i did adequately explaining what i changed, and why. By saying that i was "changing the word Aboriginal to Indian or first nations because Aboriginal referrers specifically to Australian indigenous people." Because we have distinct histories sperperate from each other with uqence histories. With first nations and Indian being the proper name for north american indigeous peoples. so i would like to humbalily ask you restore my edit. thank you so much for your cheerfulness and wish you a great day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rommel's editor (talkcontribs) 20:29, 17 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Lovely, thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:58, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Gerda Arendt, hello! What an enjoyment it was to learn about this obscure but important photographer. It was delightful to imagine him riding his bike all over the city to photograph natural springs. I also loved it that so many of his photos had pictures of children, and that he bequeathed part of his estate in his will to children's aid organizations and animal shelters. What a guy! Hope all is very well with you and that you are enjoying your rambles in the woods. I've got lots of tomatoes ripening in my little urban garden here. In good cheer, Netherzone (talk) 07:12, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you click on July much of my enjoyment is pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:20, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Gerda Arendt, those wonderful food photos are making me hungry! I love it that they are sorted under "Songs". Are you experienced in foraging? It is something I'm interested in and want to learn more about. Next month I will be attending a conference with two good friends on the topic of foraging (and identifying) wild foods and mushrooms. Many field trips are planned. You are reminding me that I should bring my camera. Netherzone (talk) 08:05, 31 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Gerda Arendt - FYI, I added three alternate hooks on your DYK nom for Heidi Grant Murphy. What a fascinating woman! Netherzone (talk) 16:01, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! - I like that the photographer made it to the stats! It was LouisAlain who discovered Murphy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:14, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Gerda Arendt, good to know JRS made it to the stats. I loved the expression in the photographic self-portrait of him, and was hoping the image might bring in a few curious readers. Thanks for the note on LouisAlain, I don't know him here, but will check out his user page. Murphy seems amazing, and the New York Times profile on her and her "power couple" spouse was an interesting read. I like the 3rd ALT hook the best because it states statistics (facts) about the number of times she performed at the MET Opera, and also had that hooky-poetic ending about how opera can act upon a person's "inner being". I hope that that last bit will peak readers curiosity! Question for you: If I added the ALT hooks, am I still eligible to review the DYK? Netherzone (talk) 16:26, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
(returned after refreshing concert, all-Vivaldi, all strings - haven't looked at pics yet) - Thank you! No, you are not able to review your "own" hooks, but you could help me with several others where I'm stuck. - Will you add him to the stats? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Gerda Arendt, I'm happy to help you with with hooks if you get stuck. Let me know which articles, it's no trouble at all, and I think it would be enjoyable. Yes, I'll add JRS to the stats, will have a look at the link above. Glad you enjoyed the concert! Netherzone (talk) 19:26, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oops, sorry I pinged you again, I'm using ReplyLink, and it automatically pings. I'll have to remember that in the future. Netherzone (talk) 19:27, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
No problems with an extra ping, just never mind adding afterwards if not, - I run a watchlist. If you look for my name on the noms you'll see the problems. Pick one that interests you, and don't touch others until that is solved, I'd say. Today's pic is not as good as on Friday (facing a strong headlight for the streaming by Magenta), but will upload now anyway. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:43, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hopefully I will not goof again, but it has been known to happen ;-) especially if I'm editing too fast or when I am tired. Netherzone (talk) 16:25, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Please don't blame yourself too much, especially over a minor wrong place that was easy to fix. - Recommended reading today: 2 interesting DYK (I think), sadly 2 who died (on top of 2 from Poland yesterday), and a concert in which Daniel Barenboim just played piano, - and afterwards he and the orchestra received last year's prize (pictured). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:13, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
The recommended reading is fascinating, as always, especially loved learning about Jochen Schmidt the dance critic. I will have to see if I can find his book on Pina Bausch. I saw her dance many years ago at BAM with her company, and it blew my mind. A set had been built onstage from cinderblocks, a huge grey wall, and it was toppled (deliberately) and came crashing down on the stage, the pulverized blocks creating almost a smoke screen of dust from which the dancers emerged. It was one of the most unforgettable dance performances I've ever seen. Simply phenomenal. Netherzone (talk) 02:33, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for sharing. I had an unforgettable night with her Sacre, danced in mud, pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:11, 8 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have a question for you on an unrelated subject: I recently started a short stub on Aachener Thermalquellen the hot springs of Aachen and Burtschneider, slowly translating from German when I can find sources in English. I wanted to ask you, do you think the article should be named "Aachener Thermalquellen" or "Hot springs of Aachen and Burtschneider"? I wasn't sure if I should go with the German name for the springs or if I should Anglicize it. What do you think? Netherzone (talk) 20:05, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
today, an Italian opera, my second ever, as the TFA written by two dear people, and a park where I went with dear people, as pictured DYK - For that title, depends. Moral lesson: John Vanderlyn was an American painter who studied in Paris, and his life-sized
Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos was one of the first large nudes exhibited in the United States.
Peddling the poison as well as the cure, this overtly sensuous work was presented to the public as a
moral lesson on the consequences of lascivious behavior. Visible in the distance is the ship of
Princess Ariadne's secret lover, Theseus, for whom she has betrayed her people by helping him to
escape the Labyrinth and slay the Minotaur. Ariadne's bliss will come to an end when she awakens
from her post-coital reverie, only to discover that the faithless Theseus has sailed away without her.
Thanks so much, BoringHistoryGuy, I hope 2022 is a good year for you as well. Netherzone (talk) 22:55, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
