FSI

I read your changes on FSI. If you do a google search for fuel straight injection it does come up with this as the first result. Audi and volkswagen use the same engines in their cars. I put the fuel straight injection on there as my father who works for volkswagen told me that was wrong, and FSI stands for Fuel Staight Injection not Stratified.

As I wrote in the edit, if you search "Fuel Stratified Injection" in Google you will get over 17,000 answers, while "Fuel Straight Injection" returns only 3,000. But I did find a more "official" piece of information: this British VW website clearly says Stratified. The FSI page doesn't explain the meaning of the acronym. Recent "minor fixes"

If you're changing HTML to Unicode that's a good thing. However, I think you might be using the wrong separator; see dash for the difference between an en-dash and an em-dash. In my browser, the dash you're using looks too big to be the en-dash. --DeLarge 22:38, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, I didn't research on the use of hyphens and dashes, it's just that when I found the huge dash in the Insert tab of the Edit page, I started to modify year ranges when I made changes to infoboxes. Volvo Cars timeline

Why did you replace the wording "large family car" with "compact executive car" in the Volvo Cars timeline? I didnt revert it because I want to hear your reason for doing so. --Dahlis 23:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Unlike other European luxury car manufacturers, Volvo reduced the size of some of its models during the 1990s. The 760, 960 and S80 were more or less in the very same as the 5 Series, E-Class and other executive cars, between 4800 and 4900 mm long among other characteristics. The 850 was smaller then them, but larger than the C-Class, A4 and 3 Series. Later, the S60 shrunk and now clearly stands as a compact executive car, with similar size and pricing as those German rivals. The S40 was born slightly smaller than them, but the current generation is actually 100 mm smaller than the first one. The C30 is basically the same car, and its rivals are all hatchbacks: BMW 1 Series, Audi A3... As it is alone in the market, there are rumours of sedan versons of those two models.

The S60 is not as luxurious as the Germans, but it is in the same luxury/price range as the Alfa 159, Saab 9-3, Cadillac BLS and similar models, which I consider also compact executive cars. That's what I think... now I'd love to hear your thoughts! -- NaBUru38 15:19, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Well im Swedish and I see these cars every day, the Volvo V70 is the most sold car in Sweden and has been so for many years. Except for the S80 and the earlier 960/S90 i dont see these cars as luxurious or executive cars they are standard family cars driven by normal people.

The size difference isnt really that large the 850 replaced the 240 and its only 30 mm shorter, the larger 700/900 series were replaced by the S80/V70 and the S80 is only 80 mm shorter than the last generation 940. The S40 replaced the earlier 400 series and is actually larger than the models it replaced. --Dahlis 16:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

All of the stuff about executive cars sounds like original research. Do you have an external source to support you, NaBUru? A reliable source (EuroNCAP) specifically refers to the S60 as a "large family car".[1]

SUV --> sport utility vehicle

Please note that redirects are a feature, not a bug: Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken. "In particular, there should never be a need to replace [[redirect]] with [[target|redirect]]." So [[SUV]] --> [[Sport utility vehicle|SUV]] is undesirable, especially on {{Mercury Timeline}}, which has knock on effects on the cache and increases the server load by an order of magnitude (see High-risk templates#Rationale). I did already know that policy, but I still have some doubts on some aspects. Your Mercury template is good to point what I did, but there are other examples with different characteristics. In this edit I made other significant changes, like the Tnavbar, so I took the chance to make other minor fixes, like new style code and redirect fixes. It's irrelevant whether or not you're making other edits. Changing links to redirect pages is not "fixing" them. As already quoted, "there should never be a need to replace [[redirect]] with [[target|redirect]]." Redirects are a feature, not a bug. It is considered more transparent and intuitive, especially to casual editors, for them to be able to type [[SUV]] and create a link to Sport utility vehicle via a redirect than it is to pipe the link and go directly. --DeLarge 21:54, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I had read in a guideline that if an article is very long, there could be more links to a same page (sadly I can't find it, so I can't proof it). "Diesel engine" is really long (around 68kB), so I left two links, one in the beginning and onew towards the end. I hope that helps. -- NaBUru38 16:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Plymouth Timeline

I don't know what you did, and what was so awful about the template(let's no go there), but all I know is that after you made changes to this template, there's a visible seem on both sides of the "sports" category, and it wasn't there before. You should always preview your work before you edit and artiicle or especially a template. Infobox solutions and stuff

Thanks for your message. I have actually typed a reply and managed to get it erased with a stupid click, so here I go again - excuse me for being a tad brief this time.

I went to the Spanish Wikipedia and saw the other Infobox arrangement, and I am afraid I am not that impressed - to me it is a bit too clumsy and hard to make out... I was actually thinking of having them put side by side in columns (within the infobox width) - field descriptions (height, width etc.) in the first row, then measurements, and perhaps an extra row for imperials. I am afraid I am not that well-versed in wikitables to offer you an example, but I hope you got what I mean. A second solution, which actually does not preclude the first, would be to have the specs part of the infobox collapsible (using the show/hide function and hidden by default).

As concerns engine data, I am afraid those do not work too well in prose - it provides for a rather boring paragraph where the actual data are hard to make out. Being tech data essentially, those are better presented in some form of a table or list - I guess it would be good to devise a neat standard for those, as I guess we have to include those in articles anyway and taking them out of the infobox would help shed its "weight". I'd put it up to discussion at the WikiProject, but I am afraid folks there are preoccupied by the absolutely most demanding topic of blanking out license plate numbers... I think the magic word in Wikicode is "colspan" - make all columns "colspan=3" (or 4) and only the rows with dimensions would use the colums. I once saw a template that somehow used some "sections" to get around the need to place colspan in every line, but I can't recall which one it was. I guess rather than fiddle with Paint (unless you really want to), you could ask at some WikiArtist noticeboard (I've heard there is one, I forgot the actual address) to help you (or, actually, us as a WikiProject) with coding that! Well, IIRC the Focus C-Max or the Altea don't have much more interior flexibility beyond a split-fold rear seat, and I believe the HHR and PT have the same. That said, I realize that compact minivan/MPV is a primarily European classification, so perhaps we can state they are "compact models" (to avoid calling them "cars" as I believe they are legally "trucks" in the US). Children of Men citations

Remember that the citations you are looking for must directly speak about both the cars and the film - a lot of people have trouble grasping that caveat at times - I did when I first started. If you find something that says that the Peugot only has 2 doors (or whatnot) but not how this car was used in the film, and cite it in the article, it will very likely be removed as OR by synthesis. If you find a citation, you can run it past me if you want. Clearly, you have a vast knowledge of cars - something I just as clearly do not have, and I am sure you have lots to contribute to the project. i don't want you to get discouraged if your hard work gets reverted right away. Template:Automobile classification

Hi. Your comment on the VW Golf Plus may well be correct, afterall, it is based on the VW Golf, which is a C-segment car. However, moving the Golf Plus to the next higher classification would have a knock-on effect on the VW Touran, the VW Sharan and the VW Eurovan.

My logic would be to leave them as they are - the following basis: Golf Plus is a small 5-seater, the Touran is a mid-size 5- or 7-seater, and the Sharan (which is the same basic car as the Galaxy and SEAT Alhambra) and Eurovan are both large size 7-seater.

I think there is some slight confusion between the North American "minivan", vs the European "large MPV" - because different terminologies are used. The minivan tag originated in the US from van conversions, such as the VW Caravelle, whereas the European originated "MPV" were unique designs of 7-seater cars, which were not derived from any van.

Flexible-fuel vehicle

Hola amigo editor. This is to inform you that I rv your good faith edit for two reasons: 1. As the lead says, in Europe E85 flex is important only in Swden, therefore, it is the only European country that deserves its own subsection, and 2. your edit involuntarily messed up with the article layout, leaving a blank hole in the middle. If you think this change is key, or have other reasons for separating the European countries, let's discuss it in the article's Talk page first, but anyway, if the change is to going ahead, please move the table, pics, etc to maintain a proper layout wihtout blank holes. I am now completing my research to clarify a few minor technical details (actual temps for cold start problems as they are different in the US and Brazil, and the fact that Brazilian E100 flex cars have problems running with E0, as sold in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, so E20 is the minimum they accept except for two models, the Fiat Tetra and the Renault Cleo), and after some nitpicking on the writing, I will submit it for GA process, that's why I am so picky about the layout. Currently I'm working at the Spanish-language es:Wikiproyecto:Automóviles, so I'm not checking the content in most articles. I just found that this article's section structure was illogical:

• 3.2 Europe
  • 3.2.1 Sweden
  • 3.2.2 Other European countries (introductory text)
    • 3.2.2.1 France
    • 3.2.2.2 Germany
    • 3.2.2.3 Ireland
    • 3.2.2.4 United Kingdom

, so I tried to change it to this:

• 3.2 Europe (introductory text)
  • 3.2.1 Sweden
  • 3.2.2 France
  • 3.2.3 Germany
  • 3.2.4 Ireland
  • 3.2.5 United Kingdom

Perhaps some of those sections can be merged or deleted, I don't care now. Both when I previewed and now when I check the old version, I don't find any hole in the article. • If I look at the article in Mozilla Firefox I do not see the hole, in Windows Explorer I do. Also notice that the arrangement your way, will send Sweden, the most important country for E85s last (the order is alphabetical and for me it does not make sense to leave the leading and most important European country presented as the last -read the leading paragraphs-). But if you insist in all countries equal (look at ethanol fuel, the sections are defined by importance of the country in the industry, not just geographically) and because I will included a couple of pics in the European section, give me some time, and let me do the arrangement of the sections your way, but think about it first.--Mariordo (talk) 03:14, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi NaBUru38, i see you want to propose a merger, to complete the proposal, the best templates are {{Mergefrom|Bivalent (engine)}} and {{mergeto|Bi-fuel vehicle}} ( i'm assuming that you want to merge the engine into the vehicle), and next start a section on the talkpage explaining your proposal so people understand why it should be merged so they can discuss it. Changes to V8 Utes

A pickup truck is a type of light truck (camioneta in Spanish). Since Americans call them just trucks, the article truck racing also includes them. I agree with you that the NASCAR Truck Series, V8 Utes and British Pickup Truck Racing are completely different from true trucks (lorries, camiones in Spanish) used in the FIA European Truck Racing and Brazilian Fórmula Truck. Luckily, few pages point to the article Truck racing, so all the information about pickup truck racing could be split to a new article. I hope that you understand my point of view. OK, I see what you did and what you removed. Because the whole article is no longer a copyvio, after you removed the copy/paste text from the webpage you indicated, you did not really need to add the copyvio notice. You were correct to remove the copyright violation text but what is left is no longer a copyright violation, so the copyvio tag is not really necessary. The reduced size article could do with a decent copyedit to improve it but it is notable. Racing driver infoboxes

Not as such, no. But I think there could still be problems that might crop up. It would need a very thorough usage document prepared, with cut-and-paste pro forma examples laid out for major series and detailed explanation of use. In addition, there is still the problem of jurisdiction. We'd definitely need to keep an eye on it from WP:Motorsport to prevent the whole template being disrupted too often, and perhaps a note to discuss changes prior to implementing them. FIA GT?

I'm a little confused by your renaming of links on several articles. It sems to me that you're combining GT2 and GT3 into a "FIA GT European Championship" for 2010. Unless there's some brand new news on this that I've missed, there is no such thing. GT2 and GT3 will remain separate series in 2010, known as the FIA GT2 European Championship and the FIA GT3 European Championship, and will not run together on track, although they will almost definitely share race weekends. ^IIIV_IX (Talk) 21:25, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

First of all, The359, I thought that the official name was in Portuguese (something like "Campeonato Brasileiro de GT3"), and therefore it had to be translated like most series. You are right about the series' name, then.

You didn't miss any news from SRO. I just thought that letting the information split would be confusing to both editors and readers. It seems to be that the European GT2 and GT3 series will have a similar format to the one we had until this year with GT1 and GT2. I'm not so sure that European GT2 and GT3 races will be held separately outside the Spa 24 Hours. And since they are expected to have a similar/identical calendar, I thought that it was a good idea to merge the season articles from 2010 onwards and have a single category for them. From my understanding GT2 will be identical to FIA GT as it has been up to this year. 2-hour races, 2 drivers per car, about 10 races. The only major rule change for 2010 will be the Pro-Am requirement. FIA GT3 will also remain the same for next year, 1-hour races with 2 drivers per car, 12 races over 6 circuits. I do not know yet if the Spa 24 Hours will be part of the FIA GT3 schedule or if it will remain optional for the teams as it has been in past years. Spa is still the only place where it has been mentioned that GT2, GT3, and GT4 will run alongside one another. But as you can see, the schedules will not be identical and GT3 will not be at every circuit GT2 runs at. ^IIIV_IX (Talk) 06:33, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Please note that in most sports (eg. golf, football, cricket, rugby, badminton, field hockey, squash, curling etc etc etc) the governing bodies and organisation of the sports is along national lines (Eng, Wal, Scot, Ire/NI), and not UK lines.

Actually, no. I've checked several high-level categories of sport by country and very few of them have England, Scotland and Wales outside United Kingdom (I haven't edited those since your message so you can see the current situation). Theyat are labelled as different countries in some specific contexts (e.g. FIFA). But in non-specific categories such as competitions, teams, people and venues, categories on those national subentities should be inside the United Kingdom. --NaBUru38 (talk) 07:18, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Eng, Scot, Wal and Ire/NI are different countries in all contexts, not simply sporting events. I fear that you reveal your opinions on this matter with your odd (strongly pejorative) use of the word "subentities".

Wikipedia must reflect the real world. And in the real world, Eng, Scot, Wal and Ire/NI are countries and nations. In fact, Wikipedia even has an article on this topic, and it is packed full of reliable ext refs atesting to the fact. --Mais oui! (talk) 07:42, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

First of all, Mais oui!, I live in a far corner of the world. Most Uruguayans don't know much about the difference between England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom and would mix those terms. Sometimes I do that myself just because of unconsciously imitating people I meet everyday, even after reading kilometric articles in this Wikipedia about the issue. And despite having passed an European C2-level exam of English language proficiency, the fact remains that I seldomly hear and talk in that language. Therefore, no matter how hard I try to avoid making language mistakes while contributing to the English-language Wikipedia, I expect to make them and you should too. For instance, I used "subentities" as a more elegant word than "thing", that is, "whatever England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are, which I do not know". Please don't confuse that with "pejorativeness" or whatever you might fear of me.

My view is that it is more appropriate that some categories on English, Welsh and Scottish sports subjects do not get included in the categories by country. I exclude "XXX sport by country" from that situation - for example, they are different are countries to the FIFA but the same to the FIA. I'm talking about subjects such as competitions, teams, people and venues. If I want to look for articles on them and I'm standing at "Cat:Sports XXX", I'd first go to "Cat:Sports XXX by country", then to "Cat:Sports XXX in the United Kingdom", and only then to "Cat:... in some specific place". Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
