Your user name edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. Alexfusco5 02:52, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

what's wrong with my user name? I'm a mother of toddlers and I caught them playing in the toilet once. Get a life.
Please consider changing your username. User:Mykidsareplaying is available, for example. If you feel that is an undue restriction on your rights, please consider other places on the Web where you will face fewer rules. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:59, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

My user name is not lewd, sexual, hateful, or promiscuous. It does not go against the user terms, and it's my email address. When you tell me what's wrong with it, then I'll understand why you don't like it.

I think you're being stuck up and you need to get a life if all you can do is pick on people's user names, especially when those names don't break any rules.

I'm keeping my name.

Gossip edit

I'm trying to remove a bit of gossip. Isn't wikipedia supposed to be factual as opposed to tabloid?

Per our policy on biographies of living people, you can remove controversial unsourced information about living people. Also relevant are our our guideline on trivia and our general policy that we're not here to cover celebrity happenings, both of which (generally) support removing unimportant gossip. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:59, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

You have yet to tell me what's wrong with my user name. It doesn't go agaist any user terms of service, it's not sexual, lewd, filthy, or anything else. Methinks you're being stuck up.

Again, the stuff being posted on the Bill Gothard page includes tabloidism and does more to badmouth than it does to present facts. That's gossip.

Gothard may not be my favorite person in the world, but launching an attack against him on Wiki is completely unnecessary, and appears to be slanderous. I thought Wiki had higher standards than that?

So how can you demand that I change my user name if you're going to allow this site to slander people? I see a bit of hypocrisy here.

PS when I remove the gossip it mysteriously reappears and then I'm reported as being a vandal. I think that the true vandalism is the posting of the gossip. Mykidsareplayinginthetoilet (talk) 20:23, 15 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Other advice edit

Please WP:SIG sign your postings, here and on other talk pages (but not in articles). Four tildes - or just look at the row of icons above the edit box, when you're in edit mode - one of them has some cursive scipt - click on that and it will add the four tildes for you.

If you've got questions about something, or disagree with what another editor has posted (we're all volunteers here, and everyone makes mistakes), a good place to get advice is at the help desk. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:59, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
