DYK for KOBF

On 1 January 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article KOBF, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that New Mexico television station KIVA-TV received angry phone calls and a bomb threat after switching away from a tied football game? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/KOBF. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, KOBF), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Edit summary

Hi, I note this edit summary. You are probably right regarding MOS etc., but when dealing with new editors, please don't threaten to have them blocked in edit summaries. Additionally, you reverted to restore this content that I ultimately removed - it should be reasonably obvious why that isn't suitable for an article talk page. Thanks, Daniel (talk) 22:48, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

The last TVA affiliate to be uploaded by request

Hi there, I was inactive from editing a few months ago, because I took a WikiBreak because of a problem on an article entitled "List of deaths due to COVID-19". The problem of an article for "List of deaths due to COVID-19" it was protected it was too much bytes over 500,000 so I took my WikiBreak. Now I have found one more logo to be uploaded and will go under the respective articles for my request from the previous message.

Here is the URL with logos put it on respect TV station articles and titles to be uploaded by request.

https://cdn.ca.yapla.com/company/CPY9xhmJrXC8hpGUQ5ssMX3n/website/article/73166/images/tva_bleu-cimt_chau_noir-rgb-1635801189.png File entitled "CIMT/CHAU TVA logo" at the articles CIMT-DT (Rivière-du-Loup) and CHAU-DT (Carleton-sur-Mer) coming from a URL website: https://www.fpjq.org/fr/offres-demploi/journalistes-a-edmundston-et-a-caraquet-deux-postes-cimt/chau-tva Please note that the CIMT/CHAU TVA logo is transparent and it has no white background. Make sure that the CIMT/CHAU TVA logo to be uploaded in a white background. This is the only logo I found when I Google search CIMT/CHAU TVA logo and it only contains a transparent logo image. Make sure you upload the CIMT/CHAU TVA logo in a white background and it will go under the two articles CIMT-DT (Rivière-du-Loup) and CHAU-DT (Carleton-sur-Mer). Don't forget to remove the main TVA logo and replace it with the CIMT/CHAU TVA logo at the two articles CIMT-DT and CHAU-DT.

That's it for the requested logo to be uploaded for the localized television logo from Rivière-du-Loup and Carleton-sur-Mer. I hope the logo I sent you and it will be uploaded and make to be uploaded in a white background and remove the main TVA logo from CIMT-DT and CHAU-DT, just like the TVA affiliate CHOT-DT in Gatineau, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario. Thanks for the message I hope the localized branded logo to be uploaded. Remember CIMT/CHAU TVA logo will go under both CIMT-DT and CHAU-DT. I hope it will be uploaded very soon. Thanks again and talk to you soon. Happy New Year! Steam5 (talk) 05:21, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

WANF-LD

WANF-LD has become a translator station to WMC-TV, you can see so right here at this link. https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=WANF-LD#station Also, please find a reliable source, because I can't. Thanks.

Changes to WMAR-TV

With regards to my changes to the channel lineup on WMAR-TV, I cannot find an online source. These changes are very recent are what are showing up on my TV as of this week. Odd that the WMAR website doesn't have a channel listing. So is it better to have incorrect information listed that contains old sources or correct information that is currently unsourced? --W4otn (talk) 16:23, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

I don't see them reflected in RabbitEars, W4otn, so I'd wait a few days. (talk page stalker) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 21:25, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
No, I made the changes with good intentions. They are true and factual. Sources like RabbitEars will catch up. I've contributed my information because I found the current information deficient. Whomever decided to roll back those changes can roll them forward again whenever they decide to. I'm not going to be coming back after having my contribution rolled back the first time; I have other projects to spend my time on. --W4otn (talk) 22:04, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

WDCW/WDVM

Not trying to beat you up or give you a hard time, but WDCW and WDVM are separate stations.

Do they share a spectrum, yes, but that happens a lot where stations owned by the same company in the same market piggyback spectrums...they are still considered as different stations, and thus listed separately.

Honestly, only hardcore tech geeks care about spectrums...Joe Sixpack flipping channels on his clicker sees channel 25 and channel 50.

Vjmlhds (talk) 03:51, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

@Vjmlhds: I think you should talk to @Sammi Brie:. Yes, WDVM is its own station with its own transmitter, but it has a simulcast on WDCW. Again read: "The effective reach of WDVM-TV's signal is the valley stretching from Hagerstown to Martinsburg, West Virginia and Winchester, Virginia, far from the core of the Washington market. Its main channel only is simulcast in 480i widescreen standard definition (virtual channel 25.1) on the Washington-based signal of WDCW in order to cover the rest of the market." Mvcg66b3r (talk) 03:58, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Again, stations sharing spectrums isn't uncommon. The important thing is, is that they appear as different channels virtually (which is the only thing that matters really). The tech geek stuff really doesn't matter to Joe Sixpack changing his channels...all he sees and all he knows is there's channel 25 and channel 50...the rest is trivia. I know of Sammi through a common Wiki business associate (Nathan Obral). Vjmlhds (talk) 04:09, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
@Vjmlhds, it is worth noting when it's a substantial piece of their coverage to have that simulcast. The signal contour of WDVM misses Washington. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:06, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Sammi Brie I get all of that. But at the end of the day, WDVM is still a separate station, and including it in with WDCW just gums up the works. Joe SixPack TV viewer doesn't give a rip about the minutiae about spectrum sharing...he just uses his clicker to watch either channel 25 or channel 50. In the WDCW article, we should just concentrate on WDCW, and ditto WDVM. Not to say we shouldn't in the meat of the article make a little note about the spectrum, just don't go overboard with it. Vjmlhds (talk) 12:20, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Looking deeper into the article, I noticed that WDCW piggybacks off of WFDC's spectrum. So when you add in the WDVM simulcast, that's basically 3 stations using 1 spectrum - all the more reason not to muck up the works with spectrum minutiae. Vjmlhds (talk) 12:33, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

WOIO/WUAB

Not an edit war.

It just appears to me that you want to separate WOHZ from the rest for some reason.

It serves as a WOIO/WUAB simulcaster for the southern part of the market, but it is still a sister station to 19, 43, and LP 6.

The way you list it makes it look like some misfit toy that doesn't belong with the rest.

Just wanna know why.

Not trying to go blow for blow with you or start a ruckus, just help me smell what you're cooking, because to me it just seems like you're too hardcore with the technical stuff.

Vjmlhds (talk) 14:01, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

@Vjmlhds: You might want to talk with @Sammi Brie: again. Or maybe @Wcquidditch:. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 14:06, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
I just think you're getting too caught in the weeds of techno minutiae and not seeing the forest for the trees. WOHZ had been doing it's own thing, Gray bought it, and is now using it to simulcast 19 and 43 for viewers down south. It IS a sister station to WOIO/WUAB/WTCL...all I'm saying is don't get so hung up on the translator/repeater stuff so as not see the bigger picture. Vjmlhds (talk) 16:46, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
It should be listed under Translators with a mention in the body of the purchase of the formerly separate station. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 18:30, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
I think you'll see what I did as a fair compromise - acknowledges WOHZ's status as a repeater, while also including it as a sister station (as it is a separate entity). It can be both - doesn't have to be either/or, and everybody gets some of what they want. Vjmlhds (talk) 16:34, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

KFOR-TV

Hi, I'm trying to mediate this dispute. It mostly seems to be over your retention of the syndicated programming section which the SPW socks added back and the tagging of {{too long}} which you added on October 22.

There's been some discussion about this at Discord, where I was looking for someone to resolve this between you and Nathan Obral, and unfortunately The man from Gianyar came in and tried a revert of their own without being logged in.

Epicgenius pointed to WP:TOOBIG. For a 48 kB page like KFOR-TV, the guideline falls between "may need to be divided" at 50 kB and "length alone does not justify division" for pages of 40 kB or less. The page likely does not need division at its present size, per the guideline.

I know Nathan is not a fan of the cruft that was left in after the sock revisions, namely the syndicated programming section. I started removing these from pages I'm bringing to GA/major improvement because they have to be cited to TV guides and are hard to keep current.

I'm hoping for a happy medium and some consensus here, thus I am starting this thread. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:14, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Yup, that was me. Sorry about that. The man from Gianyar (talk) 07:12, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Re:Re: KOB/KOBR

Since KOBF/KOBR are the same mux all owned by Hubbard and run by KOB, it doesn't make sense that KOB/KOBR are separate articles in the first place - they should be merged. It makes even less sense that KOBF re-directs to KOB instead of KOBR. I'd leave as is. Mattdp (talk) 23:22, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Looking at it, KOBF should also be a separate page, Mattdp. Both had previously been separate local stations from KOB (at one time Farmington was registered by Arbitron as a separate ADI, and Roswell was for a long time), and that merits a page when the material is available. Some of the Kansas pages like KLBY or KBSD-DT are the same way. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:56, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
@Mattdp and Sammi Brie: I spun off KOBF as a separate article, replacing the redirect. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 04:31, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
I'm actually working on copy for it now—the Farmington Daily Times is in NewspaperArchive. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 04:33, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

KEKE

I moved it here because this is actually allowable. See WP:SMALLDETAILS:

The general approach is that whatever readers might type in the search box, they are guided as swiftly as possible to the topic they might reasonably be expected to be looking for, by such disambiguation techniques as hatnotes and/or disambiguation pages. When such navigation aids are in place, small details are usually sufficient to distinguish topics, e.g. MAVEN vs. Maven; Airplane! vs. Airplane; Sea-Monkeys vs. SeaMonkey; Crickets vs. Cricket; The Wörld Is Yours vs. other topics listed at The World Is Yours.

O&O

Why did you remove the owned and operated signs O&O to WPVI, WTXF, KYW-TV? These stations are owned and operated. Wvalenti12 (talk) 07:36, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

@Wvalenti12: The denotation might not be appropriate for the infobox; we've been moving away from it. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 13:41, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

@Wvalenti12: To expound on this, read MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. For a long time, we've loaded up the infoboxes with more detail than is probably necessary, and I've been leading an effort to rethink things like that in the topic area. FOCUS Broadband

Hi! I am an employee on the marketing team at FOCUS Broadband. I am going to be working on a large overhaul on our Wikipedia page, as it needs a lot of work. Let me know if you have any questions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csomer (talkcontribs) 21:48, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Csomer. You might want to read our conflict of interest policy before you get started. I'm also going to try and assist... I will tell you straight up that the page should be renamed to Focus Broadband (no capitalization) per our Manual of Style (I will do this). Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:02, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Sammi Brie: The company name is FOCUS Broadband, not Focus Broadband. It has to be capitalized, otherwise it does not accurately reflect the company name.

* Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization practices, even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official", as long as this is a style already in widespread use, rather than inventing a new one: (But see exception below under § Trademarks that begin with a lowercase letter.)

"FOCUS" is capitalized as a matter of style by the company, not because it is an acronym, and the letters are not pronounced individually (you wouldn't say "F-O-C-U-S Broadband"). Thus, encyclopedia style prescribes that it not be capitalized in the article title. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 17:44, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

WKBW

Hello. I made an edit about WKBW explaining its major rebrand. You reverted most of it. Why did you do that, even though all of it was true? I saw it happen live, I was watching channel 7 on New Year's Eve. Please tell me why you did this. Happy New Year! BubbaDaAmogus (talk) 18:13, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

@BubbaDaAmogus: It was true, but it may have been poorly written. Also, some of it is irrelevant to the article's subject matter. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 18:16, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
Ok, then how do I word it correctly? BubbaDaAmogus (talk) 18:23, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
@BubbaDaAmogus: I think you should ask @Sammi Brie:. She's an expert. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 18:25, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
Hey BubbaDaAmogus, wanted to offer some thoughts here.
I'd probably have rewritten what you added, too, for two reasons. First is tone: the text you added seems out of place for an encyclopedic article. It's a bit overly crufty ("first logo without a circle") with the type of detail that just doesn't fit here. (This isn't Logopedia or TVNewsTalk.) The second is that no reliable source has talked about the change. Granted, it's not like 20 or 30 years ago where changes in local news would have been picked up by a local media columnist and be fairly citable, but someone has to say something about it before a mention in prose is added. (Changing the logo and infobox material was the right call at the time.)
I see a lot of interest in improving Wikipedia but a lack of understanding of procedure and custom (as seen, for instance, in your attempted GA reviews). My talk page is open if you want advice. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 05:11, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

@68.193.199.8: I suspect this has to do with the pending sale of WJLP to Weigel, which will separate them from the radio stations. My guess is it will consummate that date. (talk page stalker) Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 23:48, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
@Sammi Brie: To continue hear it, I had to go to https://presscommradio.com/ in order to continue hearing it or download the app. What will happen to 1410 AM i don't know. 68.193.199.8 (talk) 01:32, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

WSWG

Hey, I had not planned on creating a dabpage there in conjunction with creating WSWG (AM). I think that the TV station, as a current user of the call sign, is a primary topic. Would you consider moving the TV station page back? I can add a hatnote once that's done. Sammi Brie (she/her • tc) 18:30, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
