June 2015 edit

Hello, I'm MusikAnimal. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one or more of your recent contributions to Moroch because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. MusikAnimal talk 16:32, 3 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Requested username:

Request reason:

I now understand that I can not used Wikipedia to update my company's page and will not do so again. I was just trying to update the listing as the number of offices and client accounts are no longer accurate. I understand if this username needs to be blocked, but I am asking that you please remove the block on the IP address so other people using my server can use Wikipedia under the approved guidelines. Thank you and please let me know if I can provide any additional reasons to show I won't do this again.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. Note you can edit the page on your organization but this is generally discouraged as it may be difficult to avoid a conflict of interest. If you are simply updating basic facts there is no issue with that, provided you maintain a neutral point of view. More importantly, do not replace sourced content with unsourced content, and try to keep the current structure as it is in accordance with our manual of style. This means no external links in the body of the article, and the lead sentence should probably be kept as-is. Let me know if you need help. Best MusikAnimal talk 04:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi MusikAnimal, would this update be considered promotional? I know you said to keep the first sentence the same, but the company is technically more than an advertising agency. I don't want to try and post this if it'll block me again, so hoping I can get some guidance before submitting anything. Thank you.

Moroch is a full-service, independent marketing and communications agency based in Dallas, Texas.[1] Moroch services include: creative, digital and social media, planning and analytics, media, multicultural, public relations and experiential marketing. It has 34 offices across the US.[1] It is one of the top 20 independently owned advertising agencies in the country.[2]

The agency's major clients include McDonald's, Midas, Coca-Cola, Disney, Sony Pictures, Baylor Healthcare System, ClubCorp, Oasis Brands, Boost Mobile/Sprint, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Pure Fishing, Visionworks, Columbia Pictures and Universal Pictures, among others.

Founded in 1981 by Tom Moroch, who is currently serving as Chairman of Moroch Holdings Inc. The agency's Chief Executive Officer is Rob Boswell and President is Tommy Thompson. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjespo23 (talkcontribs)

Hey! The above looks fine, except in the first sentence we always include the nationality. So Moroch is an American marketing and communications agency.... You don't need to mention "full-service", that sounds promotional and doesn't add any valuable detail. The word "independent" seems irrelevant too. Independent compared to what? Being a subsidiary of another organization? As you write, ask yourself, does this help my understanding of the subject? That's what we want to do, stick to facts and disregard opinions or unnecessary detail. There's plenty of wiggle room, but that's our goal in a nutshell. Aside from neutral point of view policy, there is a manual of style on words usage that we try to conform to. Please also retain the linking, e.g. if you copy and paste the above remember to link to relevant topics, such as McDonalds, Coca-Cola, etc, as opposed to McDonald's, Coca-Cola.
I know this is all a lot to take in, so no worries you will not be blocked or punished just for being a new user :) I'll be watching the page and I will help with any formatting. Lastly, in talk page discussions remember to sign and date by putting four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comment. Thanks! MusikAnimal talk 16:17, 4 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
