Population of Lake Buena Vista

Where did you get the figures in [1]? Lake Buena Vista is a city under the control of the Walt Disney Company, and there is no way it would have 1776 people. This may have been for an associated census-designated place, but cannot be true of the city itself; thus I have reverted it. --SPUI (talk) 23:40, 19 July 2005 (UTC)

Is there any way to get a map of the area they called LBV back in 1990? I don't see how it could have that many people, unless they counted tourists, which would differ from both 1980 and 2000. There's no way Disney would allow that many people to live inside the city. Was there some sort of change in the way things were computed - maybe timeshares were included in 1990 but not in 2000? --SPUI (talk) 05:52, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

I have emailed the census bureau with some questions about this. After the initial shock I find it very intriguing; thanks for bringing it to my attention. I also note that Bay Lake, Florida had a population of 0 in 1990; I guess the development north of the lake wasn't built yet. --SPUI (talk) 09:08, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

"Another place that changed dramatically was the unincorporated community of East Blythe, California. According to the census, the community's population fell from 1,511 in 1990 to only 3 in 2000 due to the annexing by Blythe city. This was a big shocker for me. (Although Census Designated Places are hard to figure out and perdict)."

I guess the really strange thing in this case is that LBV is an incorporated place that deannexed the area, specifically to avoid having a high population. --SPUI (talk) 22:21, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

California Cities

Hello, Moreau36. I see you have made a good effort to clean up the list of cities in California. I improved the list of cities page to include just the 478 cities that are incorporated. No problem. I'm working on city/town pages that are lacking maps and inserting them as many as possible. This may look different from the previous version, in which I don't know why it was deleted from the page in the first place, anyhoo, Unlike that last map, this one shows the exact boundaries of the city and it's suburban communities. Michigan Template

I'm afraid this is an incorrect understanding of the situation with these "communities". They are for all practical purposes indistinguishable from nearby cities. And they very much have a community identity (or at least as much as any large urban area has). While it is true that in less urbanized areas, there may be several smaller unincorporated communities within a general law township. But that is not the case with these.

Places such as Drayton Plains, Michigan or Sheldon's Corners may have had a historical identity, but little remains at present to make those places easily distinguishable from the surrounding area. I well know how confusing CDPs and unincorporated communities can be. I've done a fair amount of research into them (at least as regards Michigan). Being labeled as a place on a map or gazetteer is a good start, but still means little since many, perhaps most, commercial mapmakers do relatively little to verify how accurate or up to date things like municipal boundaries or the status of tiny places are. I know some maps draw extensively for their list of place names from the USGS (which also does relatively little to stay up to date with tiny places. You'll see many of these classified with a FIPS category of unverified. The "post office" in Drayton Plains is in fact only a P.O. box. There is no "office" to speak and you won't see it listed as an office at the USPS site (although you will get to the Waterford Post Office, which is nearby but of relatively recent construction). Lessons Learned -- don't rely on mapmakers unless they explicitly make a claim about having researched and verified the status of everything on their maps. Otherwise, chance are they have simply based the map an older map and have corrected only the most easily verifiable infomation. Cheers. older≠wiser 11:26, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Louisville, Kentucky

Thanks for the kind comment. I am frustrated as well by all the reverts and the unreasonable attitude displayed by the other users (user?) Some people just cannot understand that the issue of city populations is nuanced and the only way any real comparisons can be made is if rules are adhered to, and the Census makes those rules and applies them consistently across the country (well, that's the hope - there is no real alternative, anyway). The clamoring for "Sweet Sixteen" in Louisville is like skyscraper owners mounting ever taller antennae atop their buildings in pursuit of the title of being the tallest. I still am not clear on whether any municipalities besides Louisville continue to exist in Jefferson County, but if they do, there is no way that Louisville can include them in its population. In that case, the article should not even mention a claim to be the 16th largest or to have 700,000 residents within the city limits. Denvoran 20:47, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

AOL vandalism

Those doggone shifting proxies that AOL uses make it darn near impossible to block any of them for any length of time unless a lot of really chronic vandalism is coming from one...and even then we have to be careful because of the collateral damage. Deleted Community Template

I apologize, but I'm not sure that I know what you mean. All the Infobox Community templetes previously in use were replaced by Infobox City before the deletion occured, and no images (to my knowledge) were lost. For instance, Bellevue, Washington and Redmond, Washington still have their location maps inside their templetes.

You may have meant that you wanted all the orphaned images in Category:Census Bureau images placed into their respective pages. If that is the case, I would be happy to help; but I need some clarification on your request first. — Seven Days » talk 17:52, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your support. I'll admit i am no expert when it comes to the subject, but i have done, what i belive, is more then my fair share of research to back up my claims, and support the information that i am trying to present. As for the actions of this other user, all i can say is that is dispointing. I interpert this site to be a colberation, yet his actions have shown, from the start, that he seems to be unwilling to colabrate and is completely indifrent to the opinions of other editors, who have add substationaly to the rgument and to the articles in question. I find the user to be no less then 2 faced, he states one thing, and does another, like his stating to want to come to a comprimise, yet he continues to remove the category listings from articles, his action are no less then distruptive. Considering this is a user who syayes that he from Philadelphia, and graduated from Kennedy School of Goverment, makes this even more disapointing. The other thing i have just as dispointing is the lack of action by other users in the prevention of this useres actions, even to the point where some have errionusly supported his actions. Suitland, Maryland

Thanks for your work on the Suitland page. I think that there is lots of evidence that even though revitalization programs are ongoing, Suitland remains a very dangerous place. A quick walk through the neighborhood would easily convince someone that crime is still a serious problem, but lots of people have written about it too. Check out [2] and [3]. Keeping my comment about Suitland being 'very dangerous' is reinforced by crime statistics, news reports and even the Prince Georges County Planning Department. Lake Magdalene, FL

While this neighborhood is not located in the city limits of Tampa (as the neighborhood is north of Fowler Avenue, and west of Armenia Avenue) it should be noted somewhere on this article, and similar articles (like Carrollwood, etc) that these areas retain Tampa mailing addresses. You cannot mail something to Carrollwood, FL-- you would mail it to Tampa, FL 33618. The same goes for Lake Magdalene, you would mail to either Tampa, FL 33612, or 33613. I feel it should be noted somewhere so that people do not think these areas are separate towns. Rellman 15:56, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
