ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open! edit
Hello, Mmyers1976. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Poe Elementary School (Houston) edit
Hi! I think I can restore at Poe Elementary School (Houston) - I found a book that described at length how an affiliated preschool was found: Boulevard Oaks, Houston#Education - See the pages which discuss the preschool

- The presence of a particular school in a book like this may be nothing more than familiarity with the school by the author and may not be an indication that the school itself is notable. This sometimes happens in academic books. For example, if a professor is writing a book about preschool education and she (the authors of this book are both female) needs an example of a preschool that fits a particular paradigm, there may be hundreds or thousands of such examples across the country. If she happens to already be familiar with one, or if she happens to live in the same city as one, it's reasonable to assume she will pick that one rather than picking one at random. Even if she does pick one at random, that is not an indication of notability.
- If you have the book and are willing to read the chapter in question, you may be able to figure out if the authors are writing about the particular pre-school for the sake of featuring that school in a book or if they are writing about the school for some other purpose - such as because it is an example of something else important to educators - and may be adding in some background material about the school to make the chapter more interesting to the reader. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:19, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Following up to my own post: https://poeco.wordpress.com/about-us/history/ indicates that the book may in fact highlight the school in purpose. Or maybe it was chosen because one of the authors knew someone from the University of Houston (which helped found the preschool) who knew of the preschool. In addition, the school has a single claim to fame: In 1991, it is the first parent-cooperative preschool in the United States to earn NAEYC accreditation. On the other hand, NAEYC has only been accrediting preschools since 1985,[1] so being "first" only 6 years in may not be such a big accomplishment. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:35, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Thanks for finding that! I tried looking up the author's name but I didn't see much of her. I get the feeling the author featured PoeCo not because it's what she was familiar with (due to circumstances of geography) nor for "directory" reasons, but instead to show a "noteworthy"/"exceptional" program. I wish I could see more of the book. I'm currently outside of the U.S. so it's difficult for me to get a copy from a library. WhisperToMe (talk) 09:38, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: Found more info at the Amazon listing. Amy Driscoll was at Portland State University and the book's description stated that it "[discusses] specific applications of learning theories and drawing examples from educational situations and problems. It illustrates concepts concretely, with a variety of examples from primary school to corporate training." - It sounds like it's being used as a case study/example. I might split the article soon.
