WP:FILMS' Tag & Assess Drive and Roll Call edit

Medical cannabis edit

I wanted to let you know that I appreciated your recent work with the medical cannabis article. Editors on both sides of the issue there did, as well, I know. I left a several comments on the article's talk page, in response to your own, both in the "tags" section where you'd commented, and in a new talk page entry, entitled "History section". I hope you might be willing to have a look, despite your concern over the regretably partisan nature of some of the discussion that has occurred and about the poor state the article is currently in? Many thanks, Ohiostandard (talk) 15:57, 26 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Mojica hell.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mojica hell.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

Fair use rationale for File:48 horas.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:48 horas.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:49, 25 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Idiocracy edit

I fail to see how it can be okay to have "Stories with similar themes" as a category under the article "The Marching Morons", in which "Idiocracy" is noted as similar, but it is not okay to have the reverse.

Not every sentence or paragraph of every article in Wikipedia has a source cited - or counts as an "essay". Often in such cases, an addition to the article stating that it needs sources is posted, with the offending paragraph or sentence left in place.

I'll give you some time to revert it back yourself. After that, I'm complaining. As to just citing, I would, but I'm pretty sure that unless it was from Walter Cronkite's memoirs, you'd simply say it wasn't a good enough source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.130.61 (talk) 12:58, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Go ahead and "complain", as my edits will stand. See what it gets you. Mjpresson (talk) 16:45, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Apparently you feel confidant that it will get me nothing - and as you have been here awhile, and I've not, you're probably right. Doesn't change the fact that there are sections called "Stories with similar themes", with no citations. Or the fact that in other cases of something needing a citation, a note is just added saying "needs citation".
You aren't then being the champion of infallible and fair handed rules. You're just telling me - with no explanation addressing my concerns - "it's my club, not your's, so buzz off".
Message received.

You have been granted the 'reviewer' userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 13:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bloodbath at the House of Death edit

Some of the trimming here has been excessive. This is the only substantial reference source for the film on the Internet, and the article is now too short. Although the article was in need of a bit of a cleanup, removing the book image, plot details, see alsos etc was not really necessary. The article should have a more moderate cleanup.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:35, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

"This is the only substantial reference source for the film on the Internet" only tells me the article is "unsourceable" and not notable. If one thing I removed is sourced or should be reverted, then I would encourage you to do so. Generally you won't find a film article that displays a non-free image of the book it's based on. Mjpresson (talk) 19:57, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I added the book cover mainly because it is extremely rare and hard to find elsewhere. It is of low resolution and within WP:NFCC as it is mentioned in the text of the article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:08, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
WP:NFCC makes no such mention about things "mentioned in the text of the article". I think you are misinterpreting something. That image can only be used in an article about that book. It's "rare" status doesn't automatically qualify it. Mjpresson (talk) 21:15, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
It is unlikely that anyone will start a separate article about the book. In my view the book cover is a worthwhile inclusion. Would you remove it if it was put back?--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:54, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

No. The text is my primary concern. Thanks for your contributions. Mjpresson (talk) 07:14, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Replaceable fair use File:Elizabeth_Coffey.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:Elizabeth_Coffey.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Closedmouth (talk) 09:28, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: Cannabis smoking edits, and Block Warning edit

Your threats of blocking remind me of those I received from dear Altenmann; he even blocked me (per requirements of notification, another editor promptly reviewed it and unblocked me.) That was barely a month before Altenmann was banned from WP for sockpuppetry and accepted a year's "leave of absence to cure my wikiholism".

Your position might be as shaky as his, based on the huge disproportionate share of your edits which have been concerned with promoting a genre of "horror flicks" the hinteragenda of which appears to be to lure children into smoky theaters where they will inhale nicotine ("smoking restrictions" in Brasil are not up to date)-- how does all that stuff about Coffin Joe meet WP:Notability requirements?Tokerdesigner (talk) 15:20, 3 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Getting response from AN/I edit

When complaining about someone on AN/I, you can't just say "this person is being a jerk" and expect to get a response. Admins are busy and don't take the time to do research, so you need to do their research for them. Best way to do that is to post a bunch of diffs showing specific examples of the behavior you are complaining about. For example, he threatened you on your talk page. From the quick look I took through his edits, I didn't see anything bad other than the threat and a couple of misguided statements on sources, but not understanding sourcing is not actionable on its own, and the threat is pretty empty...he can't control whether article subjects are notable. See the AN/I section entitled Wikid77 for a good example of how to report someone. Hope this helps! Bobby Tables (talk) 01:01, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I just wanted to get this documented. I forgot to mention that I archived all of his nasty messages and you didn't bother to read those. It's no big deal and I'll continue to remove unsourced and improperly sourced material from these articles. Please know that user "Tokerdesigner" is a single-purpose editor who has never contributed to non-marijuana articles so the edits and tagging of my film articles that he threatens would be strictly retaliatory.Mjpresson (talk) 01:21, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Bobby Tales I really do thank you for responding and referring me to that section. I'll check that out. Mike/--Mjpresson (talk) 01:25, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Archiving his message is probably a good idea, for your own sanity if nothing else. Posting diffs means they just have to make one click to see what you're complaining about...nobody is going to trawl through talk pages for a situation like this, nor should they be expected to. You're the one who is making the complaint, so you have to make your case, and you want to make it as easy as possible for them to get it. I'm not an admin, but I read AN/I regularly so I have a good idea of what works there, and it sounded like you might have a legitimate beef. I doubt you'll get anything more than a stern warning, but that might solve the problem.
Also, don't worry too much about him tagging articles you wrote for non-notability. If they're notable, they'll survive an AfD with very little effort on your part. And if they're not, then he wasn't wrong to tag them, even if his intentions were bad. Bad-faith noms can be actionable, but it needs to be very clear-cut...like if he nominates 20 articles that you were the primary contributor on and every single one gets speedily kept. Bobby Tables (talk) 01:48, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks and sorry for misspelling your name.Mjpresson (talk) 01:51, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that's a fair approach. My only intention is to continue to maintain the quality of these pages as best I can per WP's standards and policies as we're not talking vandalism here, just editorial differences.--Mjpresson (talk) 21:43, 5 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
