What's New?

The Assessment Department is new. Please help to assess via quality and importance Saskatchewan articles by using the parent Canada wikiproject template {{WikiProject Canada |class= |importance= | sk=yes }} along with the Assessment guidelines.

See also wikiproject template for other work groups with their wikiprojects as well as provinces which can be added to the Canadian template

The new template and assessment table worklist is produced periodically and was created by Arctic Gnome. Thank you very much! Please take a moment to send an award or other recognition

New Template Saskatchewan

  • AT Bot requests, another very kind user has also offered to help with the transition process (Thank you also to Ρх₥α )

The request conglomerated together the following tasks to help show the quantity / quality of Saskatchewan related articles:

  1. tag all articles in Category:Saskatchewan and all of its subcategories with {{WikiProject Canada |sk = | class=| importance=}} and if {{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
  2. all articles which have a Saskatchewan related stub Saskatchewan-politician-stub / Saskatchewan-stub / Saskatchewan-geo-stub to be tagged in their talk pages for wikiproject Saskatchewan and be classified as stub as such: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=stub| importance=}}
  3. add GA or FA to to the class parameter of {{WikiProject Canada}} articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
  4. add stub to the class parameter if a stub tag is present on the article page.
  5. Replace the old tag {{Saskatchewanproject}} with the new parent wikiproject tag: {{WikiProject Canada |sk =yes | class=| importance=}} and if {{WikiProject Canada | class=| importance=}} already exists, then can just |sk=yes be added to the Canada template?
  6. add to the class area FL for any Featured-class lists articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.
  7. add to the class area List if the Saskatchewan related item in category:Saskatchewan articles if any other template has such a parameter value on the talk page.

Watch Arctic Gnome's assessment table worklist for progression undertaken by Ρх₥α. It is a very exciting time. Please take a moment to send an award or other recognition

The barnstar

edit

Why thank you very much! Always a pleasure to get one.

Re doing other route descriptions: I'd love to, but:

  • I'm involved in quite a few projects beside NYSR,
  • I have a lot of back pictures to edit, upload and build articles around where necessary, many for those other projects, as well as old pictures to move to Commons;
  • I tend to prefer writing where I at least know some of the route and have traveled it in the last few years.

52 and 55 are very local to me (I can lean out of my chair to the window and see this bridge on the former), so I bet they might even be able to go for GA as is. Ditto NY 208 when we get better sourcing and more history.

But I'll certainly try when I can, or when I find myself visiting those routes. Daniel Case (talk) 16:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I saw how you did it with the 22 and 20 articles; and I'll do that for 52, 55 and (now that I think about it), NY 17K (it will also help to move some of those pics into the history section now that the construction depicted has been completed). Daniel Case (talk) 17:28, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just put some in the 17K article. It also occurs to me that it would help if pictures (like, mainly, the ones I like to take) that illustrate the claims in the text about the landscape surrounding the road use the location template when on Commons in order to help make the claimed location verifiable. I'll be doing that later on.

I don't presently have an IRC client; I have been resistant to the use of IRC by wiki editors because a) I hate computer chatting to begin with and b) more than a few RFCs have grown rather heated because of the use of IRC by one or more editors involved. But I might consider it after your invite. Daniel Case (talk) 17:41, 23 December 2007 (UTC) Reply

Re: Hurricane Rick

Actually, in the last few weeks, I've been having computer troubles again. I'm nowadays working on my mother's computer, although most of my data is on the previous one. However, I am still planning on finishing Rick's article as well as the others (seeing as I never kept tabs on Rick's page, so I can find my info easily). However, any help is appreciated.

By the way, I saw a picture of Rick's rainfall pattern on HPC and was wondering if it can be used in the article for impact. Jake52 My island 05:19, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Saskatchewan roads

edit

Hello there. Thanks for your efforts in the Canadian / Saskatchewan roads. It is good to have a better direction so that the articles read better/last longer/are more informative. I puttered at adding some content to Saskatchewan Highway 913 as it is a road for outfitters, snowmobilers and fishermen in our boreal forest, lake, Canada shield neck of the woods. I will putter at a few others to try to achieve Good Article Status for them, as well. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 22:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The 900 series in SK will be a challenge as they are all gravel roads in the boreal forest heading off to either lakes or first nation reserves. I wish you well, and will keep poking into both Canada roads wikiproject and Saskatchewan roads wikiproject for more news events.

I puttered on Saskatchewan Highway 58 and Saskatchewan Highway 34 following along your start, do you know what else could be done to upgrade their status? SriMesh | talk 23:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Instead of making a whole whole bunch of images for each highway for the infobox template, can a locator map type template be used. I don't have to make a map for each Saskatchewan town, I just use the Saskatchewan locator map template and then voila, there is a labelled map with the correct co-ordinates. There should be a template code for highways also to do the same thingie.SriMesh | talk 00:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Me again.  :-) Another good reason to try to make a code for the highway numbered images is that I peeked at the image you created...Image:Saskatchewan Highway 913.svg... and those three symbolic wheat sheaves are a symbol of Saskatchewan. Our new premier Brad Wall is changing this symbol - so there is news in the newspaper about the cost that the province will entail changing letterhead, and signs all over the province. Already the letterheads just bear the Saskatchewan emblem and not the symbol, as does the Provincial government website Be careful of making too many, till our new Premier finalizes this new decision. SriMesh | talk 00:18, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I thought I would try improvements on a top priority article such as Saskatchewan Highway 1 as well.SriMesh |talk 04:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I also used the route planner on Saskatchewan Highway 33. If you can make improvements to any of these, maybe we can get some nominated at the GAN to help the Canada roads wikiproject along. I am puttering at these while I am off sick with a big cold, I hope I am a bit coherent. Thank you for any notes.SriMesh | talk 21:28, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Daniel (2006)

edit

Since you have User:Mitchazenia/Hurricane Daniel (2006), you'd probably like to know that Hurricanehink has User:Hurricanehink/Sandbox. Both of these sandboxes are incomplete articles about 2006's Hurricane Daniel.

Hurricanehink's has better storm history (currently), and yours has better impact (currently). Since there's no real point in duplicating effort, I would like to, if you don't mind, ask an admin to merge the two sandboxes.

I'm telling you this so you don't end up wondering what happened to one of your userspace futures. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 05:32, 29 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Strawberry Flower

edit

Hey, I noticed you deleted Strawberry Flower under A7. However, the article clearly asserted notability (several singles and working directly for Nintendo; also, see Ai no Uta (Strawberry Flower song))- this makes it not an A7, and it could be sent to DRV (the article also had an interwiki link). You may want to restore it - it should probably go to AFD, if anywhere. For future reference, make sure to look over articles before deleting them to make sure there's nothing the person who tagged the article overlooked - you can decline speedies and opt for AFD.

Also, when deleting pages, don't forget to delete the talk pages, as well (orphaned talk pages are G8). Deletion can be more complicated than it looks, but you'll get used to it pretty quickly. --Coredesat 03:14, 5 January 2008 (UTC) Reply

Look good. I will add one in the former article for Newburgh, and I saw also how you created one for Montgomery ... but that one gives you a map of the town, not the village. Vote for a post-meetup restaurant

edit

I'm charged with making the reservations for us, so let's make it official. We'll do this via voting and everyone including anonymous voters, sockpuppets, and canvassed supporters is enfranchised. Voting irregularities and election fraud are encouraged as that would be really amusing in this instance. Please vote for whichever restaurant you would like to eat at given the information provided above and your own personal prejudices at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC#Let's make it official. The prevailing restaurant will be called first for the reservation. If a reservation cannot be obtained at the winning restaurant, the runner-up restaurant will be called thus making this entire process pointless. Voting ends 24 hours after this timestamp (because I said so). ScienceApologist (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Just as there is only one image needed for upload for Saskatchewan locator maps, and then various towns can be updated upon this image. So, too there should be a highway picture template, so that the various numbered highways 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914, etc can all have their own image without needing to create a bizzilion numbered images online.

This unique assessment department means that Saskatchewan related articles can be assessed for their own provincial merit, and also belong to the Canadian wikiproject as well. It also means that editors from both Canada wikiproject and Saskatchewan wikiproject can unite in their efforts to provide banners and ratings to articles. Welcome and Happy New Year!:

  • Just as panic begins to settle in as to what in the world the next newsletter should mention, new areas of development and growth come about. The coming year of 2008 should provide not only more Saskatchewan articles, but also more articles with higher ratings with the assistance of more editors, and a new assessment department umbrella. The highways and roads project has given a good base for development, and to strengthen the presence and notability of roads and highways and effort is being called upon to help these articles improve, now that they too are under the assessment umbrella.

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways The WikiProject Canada Roads is undergoing an overhaul. It is aiming to produce some Good articles and Featured articles of highway content pertaining to Canada, and for the Saskatchewan Roads and Highways for Saskatchewan highways. As Saskatchewan is still a work in progress this is a challenging endeavour for as the guidelines are followed as laid out at either Highway wikiproject, they become red link farms because wikilinked articles have not been developed regarding the communities, provincial and regional parks and rural municipalities which the highways meander through. Please keep apprised of the progress, and if any Saskatchewan articles rise above stub we will list it on the main page.

There is also discussion started about assessment and navigation boxes on the talk page. Please peek in to add any comments you may have.

If you want to add your name as a particpant to the Canada Roads wikiproject [here]. To join the Saskatchewan Roads wikiproject sign on the main here please.

Recently articles Saskatchewan Highway 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914 have been improved, but they need more help so they can become articles nominated as Good articles. Please help out if you are able, even to create community and rural municipality articles for these Highway articles would be an enormous help.

To keep updated on proposals, deletion debates, etc. add {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads/News}} or {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads/News|right}} to your userpage to produce the box of notices in the above right. See this page for new areas of discussion: talk page WP SK roads
